A safe assumption to make is if a player with term has trade protection then Winnipeg is on their "no" list unless they have a family/friend connection to the area. Less of an issue for an expiring contract at a trade deadline.

Nearly every single one of those points was at 5v5. Not his fault Savard was a horrible power play coach. Plus he had horrible puck luck, he had an expected goals for 22 and only scored 14.

Lowry as 2C? That means there will be no hope of scoring after the first line.
Morrissey and Pionk don't work well on the same pairing. It has been done before and it didn't work.
When Schmidt has played higher than the third pairing it has not gone well. This past season he has been on the 3rd pair or a healthy scratch.

With Cole Perfetti
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>brady_t12</b></div><div>While I think Hronek is still a very good top 4 defenseman, I don't think he gets this type of return. A young player with high draft pedigree who's very early on in his NHL career is a pretty valuable asset. I think the best return for the Canucks is a young middle 6 / top 9 forward with some real offensive upside, but needs a change of scenery.</div></div>
To add to this, Arniel (new coach) probably won't banish Perfetti to the 4th line / press box like Bowness (old coach) did. From his press conference, it came across that Arniel sees more value in young players than Bowness did.

He spends most of his 5v5 time on a line with Stamkos and amounts to 40pts a season. Great defensively but for 6m? He's not a legit 2C

Of course you’re not gonna get every player you want, but you’re really handcuffing yourself if you aren’t proceeding with confidence that you can improve your team. FWIW, Fabian Lysell is not nothing. I promise you some of Winnipeg’s forward prospects will bust in due time. It always helps to have more of them.
I’m chalking this up as being an actual fair trade but Winnipeg fans are sour grapes about their chances of improving their roster. The $6M in savings is nothing to sneeze at and Winnipeg gets a high ceiling player and their second round pick that they vaporized for 6 weeks of Tyler Toffoli.</div></div>
“I’m chalking this up as a fair trade” is the most audacious thing I’ve seen today. Get over it bud, your trade sucks.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Windjammer</b></div><div>You can twist it anyway you want, but it's not a fair trade. How is less that what Ehlers would get as a TDL rental, fair for an extended Ehlers this summer?
It's not a "mentality", it's a reality. Chevy tries to improve the team every year and every year he runs into NTC's that have Winnipeg on them. So clearing $6 mil of cap space without having anything to spend it on is just poor asset management.
Besides teams can exceed the cap by 10% in the off season, so if one of these FA's magically appear and are willing to sign long term in Winnipeg, Chevy can sign him and worry about fitting him in later.
You've gone though a lot of mental gymnastics to try rationalize a lowball TDL offer and that's fine. If you want to try for the bargain deal, you can wait until the TDL and hope that something occurs that will make Winnipeg consider trading Ehlers at a reduced price like you want.
It just won't interest Winnipeg now, when it doesn't give Winnipeg anything they need.</div></div>
This is the list of Jets UFA signings (excludes re-signings). The Jets haven't been able attract big name UFAs so they get guys who are looking for a fresh start, on their last chance or newly minted UFAs who didn't get qualifying offers as an RFA.

You need to add Bostons entire 2024 draft to make this trade worth giving Perfetti. Peeke is not worth 2.7 mil and Perfetti is a future 1st line winger.

What Would A Perfetti-Barron Trade Look Like
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Quillanrocks</b></div><div>- Perfetti won't be available (unless part of some massive home run trade, of course).
- Dvorak and Iafollo are NOT a wash. I'm sure most (outside of Montreal) would second that and (if pressed! lol) would take Iafollo over Dvorak in a heartbeat.
- Bauer may never be a legitimate full-time NHLer, but there's optimism . . . and the Jets should have ZERO incentive to part with any RHD in their system right now.
- And while I'm sure for the right price, Cheveldayoff would love to get back in the first round of the draft, Barron / Dvorak are not the players coming back that would warrant shipping Perfetti / Iafollo, even for the Jets first back.</div></div>
I would think Dvorak being a center would add value on his side, his injury history would be a concern though.
I found Iafallo was a bit of a disappointment, was expecting more, hoping that they move on from him this summer, the entire team needs a pretty big overhaul.

No argument, Iafollo disappointed this past season, but the Threadstarter posted above that he sees Dvorak and him as a wash in this deal. I simply meant that if traded one for one (Iafollo for Dvorak), Jets would lose that deal. IMO

Barron could not consistently crack the NHL roster/lineup of the 2nd worst defensive team in hockey, where the only right handed competition was David Savard and Jonathan Kovacevic
