<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>NJTM</b></div><div>I’m gonna be honest, this isn’t a good mentality to have as a general manager. Of course you’re not gonna get every player you want, but you’re really handcuffing yourself if you aren’t proceeding with confidence that you can improve your team. FWIW, Fabian Lysell is not nothing. I promise you some of Winnipeg’s forward prospects will bust in due time. It always helps to have more of them.

I’m chalking this up as being an actual fair trade but Winnipeg fans are sour grapes about their chances of improving their roster. The $6M in savings is nothing to sneeze at and Winnipeg gets a high ceiling player and their second round pick that they vaporized for 6 weeks of Tyler Toffoli.</div></div>

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Windjammer</b></div><div>You can twist it anyway you want, but it's not a fair trade. How is less that what Ehlers would get as a TDL rental, fair for an extended Ehlers this summer?

It's not a "mentality", it's a reality. Chevy tries to improve the team every year and every year he runs into NTC's that have Winnipeg on them. So clearing $6 mil of cap space without having anything to spend it on is just poor asset management.

Besides teams can exceed the cap by 10% in the off season, so if one of these FA's magically appear and are willing to sign long term in Winnipeg, Chevy can sign him and worry about fitting him in later.

You've gone though a lot of mental gymnastics to try rationalize a lowball TDL offer and that's fine. If you want to try for the bargain deal, you can wait until the TDL and hope that something occurs that will make Winnipeg consider trading Ehlers at a reduced price like you want.

It just won't interest Winnipeg now, when it doesn't give Winnipeg anything they need.</div></div>

This is the list of Jets UFA signings (excludes re-signings). The Jets haven't been able attract big name UFAs so they get guys who are looking for a fresh start, on their last chance or newly minted UFAs who didn't get qualifying offers as an RFA.
