I was surprised to see that video yesterday too. I trust Frank more than my gut. I guess we’ll see if he’s right. To your point, feels like Ottawa should charge a premium for Detroit specifically being they’re fighting for the same playoff slot.

Wallinder has a top 2 ceiling, but also a Euro-only contract floor (a pretty wide variance). Johansson could be a piece going as well. Kubalik is just a throw-in (which I don't understand why everyone thinks DET is going to trade Kubalik, he's a goal scorer on a team that can't score goals). I would even throw in a 2nd rounder in 2023 to make a Wallinder/Johansson/Kubalik deal work, and even add the 3rd rounder for Vladar.
I just think if Conroy is going to move 2 of his best players, unless he has some magic in the bag, he might as well blow it all up, because they won't be a playoff team next year.</div></div>
I think he very well might blow it up. Looking at that division Calgary is well behind Edmonton and Vegas in terms of talent. LA continues to improve. He’s got a lot of contracts expiring this year so he will either need to extend them and hope to pass one of the above teams in a short window, or hit reset and sell off assets. Hanafin won’t be the only player that opts to play elsewhere. Conroy need to look no further than Detroit to see the cost of delaying a necessary roster overhaul. I don’t have a crystal ball but I think Calgary may have an active draft night.

Your opinion and thanks for providing your idea on the return. Again I updated trade based in Seravalli’s statement on it. You can disagree with him. I linked the video of him above. He mentions Zadina by name and says he doesn’t see significant rostered players returning to Ottawa.
I’d caution you against using words like “obviously”, specifically when well sourced insiders have the exact opposite view.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>TMarch</b></div><div>Edvinnson is one of the best D prospects outside of the NHL, so the return would have to be very high. I can't see 2 guys on expiring contracts being the guys that Steve would trade Edvinsson for, even with extensions becoming part of the package. Steve is going to start eating cap up with Seider and Raymond needing contracts soon, along with Larkin's extension kicking in. Lindholm and Hanifin would be in the Larkin range (7-8.5m) with term. A lot of money for 5 guys when your primary issue is depth.
CGY only does this if they are going to go full rebuild. Might has well sell Huberdeau, Toffoli, Backlund, Kadri, et al at the same time. Don't think Conroy is there yet.</div></div>
Some great points. But I think Detroit’s biggest issue is top end NHL talent. Harder to find that via draft and free agency. Adding two 40 goal scorers and a top four D man should make this team competitive today and moving forward.
Hanifin wants out of Calgary and the rumor mill is swirling? Is there any package Calgary could create to make this work? Would Wallinder be enough going the other way. Trying to be realistic. Conroe isn’t an idiot and you have to give to get. Edvidsson looks like a blue chip prospect and you’d need that to make a deal liek this work.
And yes as stated obviously dependent on ability to sign long term.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>JoeROFLCOPTER</b></div><div>I certainly do think there's a middle ground, and we may be on it. Do I think it's wise to ship out Edvinsson? Hell no. I wouldn't even ship out Wallinder. Our prospects are fantastic, but more importantly, their roles for this team are clear. We lack grit? Mazur, Kasper, Soderblom. We're horrible defensively? Edvinsson is undoubtedly going to be one of the best defensive defenseman in the league.
Wallinder was projected to be a low floor-high ceiling guy (with some saying a higher ceiling than Edvinsson, which is just insane when considering that Edvinsson's ceiling is already huge), and he looks to be hitting.
Our goaltending stinks? Cossa didn't look great, but he found his stride. He'll likely be an elite starter in a few years.
We haven't assessed goal-scoring and that's about it.
If you're asking me, I'd rather take a slow approach; typically gives a longer window than forcing your hand.</div></div>
Understood. My experience on this website is fans overvalue their own prospects. If I can get a top 4 dman that’s 26 and playing 20+ minutes a night and a 28 year old center who’s floor is 20 goals and scored 40 two years ago, I’m gonna go get em.
Keep in mind with your window analogy, that there’s two sides to that analogy. For example, Larkin’s in his prime now. Isn’t there an equal argument to be using that to its full potential. Especially with the war chest of picks and prospects.
Suppose Servelli is wrong and it is Begerren needed to make Debrincat deal? Do you make it. Or just hope he gets his 40 goal season before Larkin is on the wrong side of 30…
I’m not sure just asking

Ken Holland put us in one of the worst spots for an organization in history. Did you know we had the highest cap hit of any team the year before he left?
The rebuild started at least when Yzerman got here, but if you ask me, it's a year later due to the required teardown of the **** sandwich Holland left Yzerman. Add onto the fact that we haven't picked top 3 ever, and you're going to get a very long rebuild. We have an excess of great pieces; but most of these pieces have a spot on this team. Selling them for other pieces will just open up holes elsewhere.</div></div>
All fair. One question. Is there a middle ground? Do we have to sit and wait for picks? Or can we weaponize some assets to accelerate. The above roster - which in the description is described as unlikely. But even in this plan the Wings have a ton of premium picks and prospects. They’re not all going to hit and consistent losing takes its toll. If not this, what would you recommend they do to get more competitive next season? Or would you do nothing and let it slowly build? Respect that if so but I am just too impatient

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>CoachCoach</b></div><div>They would want Berggren as he would be a dip in production from Cat, but still a second year player that probably improves from a great rookie season. They save money and get immediate production, while also getting a guy with a bunch of team controlled years. Second would be Kubalik as he is a cheap 20G 40PT guy who is 26, but has more inconsistencies. Could be just immediate help, or a guy who gets a slight bump if he does well (WC he was a monster).
Depending on who the player is, the pick changes. Berggren would act as a 1st since he has only improved since being taken where he was. A 2nd and small piece would accompany him. Kubalik at MAX is a 2nd at the TDL, so the NYI would be involved and possibly another bigger third piece (depending on OTT wanting a pick to flip, a depth piece, another prospect, etc.).</div></div>
Thanks super helpful

You're giving up a 1st and a 20goal scorer another LHD and thats Detroit doesn't need.</div></div>
It makes sense in the scenario (trying to make the best team this year spending to the cap).
Doesn’t matter. My goal in the description was to get feedback on the trades and UFA #s. You mentioned Ottawa and Calgary are both rejected. Thanks for providing that. How far off? Would Calgary require a 2nd high pick or a different LD in return? Wallinder?

Not trading that high of a pick for a goalie with 2 NHL games. Don’t mind Cat trade but Zadina isn’t the ask they will have. NO MORE LHD! Not wasting more assets on a position of strength when other areas need as much help as they do.
Detroit will keep their cap, and use it to re-sign the kids before going out and committing long term to UFAs and trades.</div></div>
What is the ask on the Cat trade in your mind? Is it Beggeren? If so, do the picks change?

Thanks for feedback and for help on a few guys who have indicated they won’t sign. I thought the title was clear but I guess not. This is an exercise to see what the team would look like they spent to the the cap (Spend It All). Obviously not the play at this point in the rebuild. But fun to think about ahead of 7/1.

I don’t really see the point in burying Abdelkader either? Be better off parking him in front of the net and trying to bank pucks off him.
Love Skinner. I know Yzerman said he wasn’t planning on a big splash this offseason but I think he’s the young and pure goal scorer this team needs.
Nice job!

Oilers RNH
The reason many people request trades with AA is his holdout in 2017. The perceive he doesn’t want to be here.
The logic behind my trade is many RFAs for Wings next offseason including AA, Mantha, Bertuzzi. Trading for RNH (who is only 20 months older and signed for an additional season) gives Wings a 1-2 punch at center that rivals just about anyone in league. I think the Oilers have some cap pressure and will be looking to make a move.
I can understand a reluctance to trade picks, but the Wings have lots of draft assets and only so many pro contracts to give. Using a couple to improve the most important position, and shake up a losing roster, makes sense IMO.
Could they keep AA, sure. I probably agree with you. But the point of Armchair GM is to mess around with potential deals, right?

So my reason was stacking the deal in EDM favor was AA in expiring deal. Provides cap relief for one year.
Can someone say what the deal might look like? Take out Kufner? Take out the picks? Is it AA for RNH straight up?
