Would This Be Legal
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>DirtyDangles</b></div><div>Why would Marner do that when he can get $11 mil now? Why throw away $5 mil?</div></div>
That's a fair point but Toronto has the ability to make up for that in signing bonuses and he'd ultimately end up with $95M over 9 years which averages out to just over $10.5 a year. That's less than $500K that'd he'd be sacrificing per year

Bob McKenzies Projection

Well, you don't have to have scratches and you can always call up someone from the minors (Engvall, Bracco, Brooks, Timashov, etc.) on an emergency loan basis if someone gets injured so that's not really an issue, though if I were doing it I would try to keep room for scratches too but Dubas (and Bob) don't necessarily HAVE to.

Hahaha ? I think I was confusing him with Viktor Lööv and my mind was in 2015 or something but still good catch.

Beacause of the Zaitsev contract? Johnsson is a talented winger, LoVerde is a promising prospect, and if they want a first, given the Leafs playoff struggles they're likely one of the better teams to gamble on. 16-31 is a big gap.

TORONTOS RIGHT DEFENSE NEEDS TO BE BETTER
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Hedman77</b></div><div>im not even going to talk about the trade values.
but when right-side is the problem (which it is), why do you trade for 2 lefties?</div></div>
Not to mention trading away 3 guys who play on the right-side

Dale Hunter
Gardiner had 52 points last year, 47 assists which was 8th best in the league for D-Men, and the only player with a smaller cap hit than him in the top 10 is John Carlson whose contract expires July 1st. Gardiner's does not, he's signed at a steal of $4M and the fact that his inconsistencies were scrutinized to such a high level this season is only going to make him want to play better next season so he's not going anywhere at least until his contract's up. Especially not in exchange for a 30 year old signed through 2021 with a $5.5M caphit.
And signing Vanek doesn't make much sense with the Leafs plethora of prospect wingers tearing it up in the Marlies.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>mpanz</b></div><div>larsson for taylor hall remember that? brown and borgman are easily replaceable within leafs system already and they bring in an established dman who contributes in a position of serious need</div></div>
Borgman yes, but I don't think Brown is easily replaceable, he may not be the highest producing Leaf but he's definitely one of the hardest working Leafs out there every night. I'd rather have Brown than Larsson on the team, and it's not really a position of serious need, the depth the Leafs have at D is strong and there's a reason the Marlies are the best defensive team in the AHL. With Liljegren and Rasanen in the system for RHD it doesn't make long-term sense to bring in Larsson anyway so I don't think the Leafs take that deal. Honestly, the most I could see them giving up for Larsson is Gauthier and Borgman. He's just really not that valuable of a get for the Leafs especially with Zaitsev already on the team.
And I can't see Lucic going anywhere without some serious salary retention.

Plekanec
He's an upgrade over Moore and actually has really similar numbers to Rick Nash this season so comparatively to that trade it's a steal. He'll be the kind of defensive 4th C that Babcock wants and basically got him for spare parts and a 2nd. I like this deal.

Grabner and Cammalleri Trades
Grabner would be a great get, he would also be a cheaper resign option than JVR for 20+ goals. I'd say move Nylander or Komarov (used to be an even strength C, still plays on the PK all the time) to C rather than getting Cammalleri though.
Hyman - Matthews - Nylander
Marleau - Kadri - Marner
JVR - Bozak - Brown
Grabner - Komarov - Kapanen

Thread:
If Bozak/JVR Trades Are Necessary
I know, I said that. I totally agree that they should stay, there's just been loads of talks about trading at least one of them because money will get tight when signing the big three to their contracts. I don't personally believe it is necessary as JVR and Bozak have been two of the best forwards so far this season, but they've been talking about it on Sportscentre every day since June so these are just the types of deals I'd like to see should they happen.
