Leafs Trade For Huberdeau Plus Other Pieces
Counter offer
Rielly + Nylander + Robertson+ 2023 1st
For
Hanifin + Dube
Flames help the Leafs out by moving on from Rielly and his massive contract, and they have to pay a hefty price for it. Flames will have to pay Hanifin over 6.5 million after next season anyways, so why not be proactive and take advantage of the Leafs by adding a top 6 winger, a 1st, and a prospect?

You are hilarious. From main piece in a Tkachuk trade to "negative value" amounting to an all-star level player in six months.
Just curious, do you smoke ribs in a microwave? You seem in an awful hurry.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>WranglerWranglin</b></div><div>If they could lock up Meier for the next handful of years I would consider it for sure, moving either of those guys for someone who is not here beyond this season would be a mistake. What realistic money would you move out to fit him in next season and beyond?
Let's say the Flames get lucky and Meier comes in at 9M for 8 years. 19 man roster including Pelletier, Flames need to move out about 7 million while filling a roster
Toffoli - 4.25
Dube - 2.3
Mangiapane - 5.8
Vladar - 2.2
Zadorov - 3.75
Kylington 2.5
Rooney - 1.3
What money are you moving that doesn't create drastic holes in the line up?
Guys that could likely fill spots, Gilbert, Coronato, Zary, Schwindt, Poirier, Wolf.</div></div>
We would need to trade one of our many two way forwards since Timo is also a really good two way forward that score but we need also to keep some speed on the team

True. I think CGY should go get Duclair from FLA just cause there is evidence that he plays well as Hubeys opposite wing and Lindy is just not as good version as Barkov but still a really good player.

Cautious Deadline
Hawks decline. The 2023 2nd is a good start, but in spite of his awesome name, Whynot is not a need for the Hawks. They have 6 left shot D men aged 23 or less they are very high on. And Rooney is just a cap dump with another year on his deal. This deal needs another asset or two that the Hawks actually want if they are sending Domi and Mirchell. Preferably a good young F prospect.

Just creates a log jam for guys like Schwindt, Zary, Pelletier, Coronato who hopefully can play a similar role at a much lower cap hit in the coming years. Moving on from Kylington and Poirier in the same deal also kind pillages the left side if Hanifin and Zadorov walk in two years time.</div></div>
I understand what you mean but I can see the Flames in the near future go after a top paring D-man and lock him up long term. The reason is because Zadorov will most likely walk and Hanifin seems like he will be a Flame for a while

Calgary isn't going to latch onto another poorly aging contract while getting Lucic off the books.</div></div>

There’s no evidence to suggest Kylington won’t be back and it’s not like it’s because of an injury
We could upgrade Pospisil or send a Pick instead, but Pospisil literally just turned 23 and is a Gritty Hard Working Projected Bottom-6 Player. My thoughts were that he might make Slaf & Mesar feel more comfortable and help them to adjust to the North American Life and Hockey Style</div></div>
He literally isnt on the same continent as where he is supposed to be playing right now and has shown no intention of returning
He will have missed more than 60 percent of games the last 3 years and at at career average of 15:21 and his contract he isnt worth anything.
Pospisil isnt a nhl player and isnt even a great ahler.

Practice Run
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>WranglerWranglin</b></div><div>I don't disagree on the surface of that argument but when you get into it, I don't know if Calgary has the horses to make multiple moves at the deadline without moving out a Dube, Mangiapane, Kylington, Toffoli, Zadorov type player.
If they make 1 acquisition in the 4-6M range you would have to think a 1st round pick or a top end prospect would be involved? Calgary can only move the 2023 pick because the other two are ladened with conditions from the Monahan trade, if they move a top prospect I think Wolf is the only untouchable so you're looking at Pelletier, Zary, Coronato. Other teams will likely outbid any deal based around those guys. The ability to make a second big splash evaporates pretty quick.
If the Flames were to make a couple moves that would bring in 6M+ in cap hits, who do you think they would target?</div></div>
My feeling is that the ability to make a deal WITHOUT having the other team retain is highly valuable, and makes up for the lack of extensive resources you illustrate.
REALLY big-ticket guys like Kane, Toews and Karlsson are unrealistic, not just for their contract trade restrictions. But you might be after the St. Louis free agents and/or Chychrun and Gostisbehere (both of whom are alleged to be able to play on the right) or Matt Dumba.
I concur that this is all very iffy, hence my Team Title. Thanks for the discussion!

Lucic has 7 in his last 11, no one genuinely believes he is a long term solution, he just hasn't played his way off that line yet.</div></div>
While he is being a "short term solution" our leading AHL scorers are sitting in the stands. What's the point in having a draft and farm team if you never let them play? Very few players will be amazing their first NHl game. At some point, we are just developing players to sign as free agents elsewhere.
Vladar has played better than markstrom. His numbers show it. Similarly, Pelletier and Philips have played better than Lucic, yet have not been given any chance. Guaranteed nobody on the wranglers wants to sign as a UFA in Calgary.

For both of them together, the Canucks would want a 1st + some other piece (the highest pick possible gauged from a bidding war or a prospect that the Canucks like). From there, it would take a bit extra considering the trade would be both within in the division and with somewhat of a rival.

My guess Van doesn't trade him without his consent IF they plan on re-signing him next year. He was an ufa that picked Van over every other team. He's going to be 27. If Van is going to fire sale the team, he may not want to come back. I think he expected them to be better.

After losing Valimaki to waivers and Kylington unavailable, I doubt Cgy considers moving any D men this year.
I won't be surprised to see someone move next season.
