<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>NucksnOilers</b></div><div>Well, no it's not exactly that at all. It's spread out amongst 5 years with most of it being under 2 million, you say 10.5 like we're paying him 5 million a year still. A buyout that's mostly under 2 million costs a late first round pick to move, which Edmonton has. If it was around 3 million a year then yeah it would be two firsts but no it never even gets that high it stays mostly around 1.75 million.</div></div>
And when you add all those numbers together, it makes $10.5mm in total, yes. So divide that by 6, and you get the average amount of waste per year.

Reports suggest otherwise. Remains to be seen what his value in the market is right now, but commenters on this site consistently misunderstand goalie quality (and stats).

It's mostly gonna be at around 1.5 million, is it worth a 25'1st to dump, yeah probably but definitely not Holloway. He is finally starting to find his stride and will be a big part of our middle six over the next 2-3 years. If we have any playoff success him and his cap hit will be a big part of that</div></div>
It’s $10.5mm total in cap space. No need to try and sugar coat it. Cap space has value. If you don’t want to move Holloway, I get that. But no one is taking that contract for less than two late 1st rounders.

If we're trading for a dman for the cup run it needs to be someone good enough to push schmidt out of the lineup. Don't think kova is that guy. We'd need a guy like tanev, walker, potentially dumba. Savard fits the bill but we don't need the 2nd year which crosses him off the list. Jets don't need depth dmen they need nhl dman to make schmidt the depth dman</div></div>
Do you have the 1st round pick required to get the guys you’re suggesting? I guess you could offer multiple picks though. Depth is important. Injuries happen. You could always do both. Winnipeg can win this year, if I were you I’d go all in.

I’d do it if I were them. A buyout is $10.5mm in cap space spread over 6 years. That’s worth a lot to a cap team trying to win a cup. Pick number 29-32 doesn’t often end up being an impact player. And Holloway remains a project.

ugh... I like Gallagher. I have a habs T-shirt with his name on the back of it (it doesn't fit anymore....but that's a personal issue lol). But paying for what someone has done, rather than for what they can provide now and in the future, is an old school losers mentality.
Gallagher's contract doesn't hurt MTL right now, granted. But if ever there comes a time the Habs start competing, and are close to the cap. I bet your feelings towards Gallagher's contract will change.</div></div>

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Blazingbat11</b></div><div>Anderson I think might get a buyer who thinks they can "fix him". and with the cap rising, his deal will be a little bit more digestible. Gallagher I agree, we are stuck with him.
I don't even think two 1st's would make Hughes go for it. I'm guessing MTL will want to compete in a year or two, having Campbell's contract on top of their other bad contracts (Gallagher) will only make things harder. When Hughes acquired Monahan for a 1st, the intent was always hoping he'd turn things around and they gave him the opportunity. If it didn't work out, well it was just one year left. I don't see them giving Campbell that opportunity, it's Montembeault's net, and most likely a younger goalie will back him up. And if they do, and it doesn't work out, well now it's MTL stuck with his deal.</div></div>
Gallagher’s an amazing leader and role model, he’s been underpaid his whole career and we don’t need the cap space. His contract is both a non issue and fully deserved.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>dannibalcorpse</b></div><div>-I don't see any reason for the Devils to do this - Primeau isn't really any sort of upgrade in goal for them, he's just a little cheaper than Vanecek. If the cap space is an issue, they can buy Vanecek out and clear some space, and then potentially use those picks to get a better tandem goalie than Primeau to upgrade that spot.
-Feels like fair value but probably doesn't happen for a while with Laine in the assistance program. But I could definitely see the Jackets trying to clear the decks, especially if Jarmo gets fired at some point in the near future. Letang is slowing down a -little- but is still the clear #1 on the roster you've put together here. And you're sending back basically three cap dumps - Vanecek would be an expensive backup behind Tristan Jarry, and Armia & Dvorak are $7.6M worth of bottom-6 forwards at this point. Four 1st rounders is a lot, but honestly think it's still not enough here.
-I think the Rangers pass. I can't see them settling for what's likely a late 2nd rounder and Ylonen as a return for Kakko, even if Kakko isn't living up to his draft pedigree.
-I get the idea, but there's just no way Crosby plays anywhere but PIttsburgh before the end of his career. And honestly, this is pretty horrible value - Crosby at 36 is still a first line center and there's no reason to think he wouldn't be next year.</div></div>
Primeau would be the backup (for now) that the Devils work to develop into a starter for the long term.
I’d be fine with the Winnipeg 1st for Kakko as well. If they want Ylonen too though, I wouldn’t go higher than a 2nd. It could be our 2025 2nd if they prefer.
It’s 100% up to Sid what he wants to do. One year before UFA. Pens would move him if he asks. 100%. If ever he came to Montreal, his childhood team? He’d be God over here. If ever he brought us cup #25? Potential GOAT status.
What the return is, the return is. I was more curious what the team would look like with him. Price’s knee would probably be fine for one final kick at the can. Cap doesn’t count in the playoffs.

You are basically saying. Hey....trade that pile of money away because you're going to be rebuilding sometime.
They will never trade Crosby because of what it means to the teams bottom line. As long as he's there they will sell merchandise and tickets.
When he's gone..... they will be back to the old penguins who were threating to move because they were in the red.</div></div>
If and when Crosby wants to go? He’s gone.

I think you go for a rental 3rd like RW. Rental wingers are typically abundant and don’t cost much in trade at the deadline. Way more scarcity in centers and D. Habs can retain half his salary if you need it, or for sure other teams could as well. Do you have anyone whose salary you want to dump?

I’d say a 3rd for just the Vanacek part is fair. Primeau is why I upgraded the trade to a 2nd. A third and a fourth wouldn’t be an unreasonable ask though. Hard to know what value Primeau has around the league right now, but I think he’s gonna be good.
