other side of my dream scenario
Not saying Bortuzzo is good or bad. Islanders hole is top 4, left side. Under sized, 38 yr old Greene should not be taking 20+ min and Aho may be ready for bottom minutes, probably not trusted for that middle pair.
Like I said, it's a solid deal on STL end. Islanders end, it's a big hole. I think the trade is fair if not for that need on NYI end.

this is a woof on the NYI side.
Don't see the reasoning on Islanders side to trade a low cost top 4 RD in Mayfield, not upgrade their LD at all, just to take on Bortuzzo.
NYI window to win is now and its not open for long. To take a D core of that into the heavy metro would be a complete loss on their end.
Makes sense to want this from a STL end, just not the other way around.

the "if" factor is what I think gets me. Rumors, take that for what it is, was that NJ pulled out and went with Tatar because they didn't like the medical. No one will ever know if he's even in the plans unless it actually happens but I'm weary of the price and/or who Lou is playing poker with because this has gotten to the point where Lou has given someone the "ok, we'll wait" conversation and the fact that no one knows is impressive but also ridiculous at this point.

Honest question - why so enamored with getting Tarasenko? giving up assests/picks and moving pieces to obtain maybe? a player that can still contribute at a high level.
I'm just curious. I'm not sold either way. I think they DEFINITELY need a top 4 LD but I don't know if they need a top 6 wing.

Yes, every guess is up in the air with defense in reference to this team. You can make an argument for a trade still, for Aho taking the spot, Hickey or one of the guys you mentioned.
My biggest thing is still with Tarasenko. It has been said that other teams have opted to go in different directions. (other teams reported, which is why I believe a little more) New Jersey was mentioned that they did not not like the medical from Tarasenko and that's why they went with Tatar. I wouldn't want to give up multiple pieces for him knowing we MIGHT need help on D at some point and may need pieces for that.

I agree. I've always said if they actually had a legit shooter that doesn't shoot wide 3 out of 4 chances, they'd be in great shape.
I'm just much more concerned with that D spot.
You know teams aren't going to give Lou anything without making him pay up knowing he needs that spot.

Islanders have enough to survive up front. If rumors of Palmieri, Zajac, Parise, Cizikas... they'll have enough to compete.
Isles fans should more curious what they're doing with their top 4 LD. they can't be giving those minutes to Greene or a Hickey, Bolduc or Salo, so where are they going there?

I don't think they move Clutterbuck, he would've just left him exposed if that was the case.
I like the move of making an effort to trade with Nashville and fill 2 needs with proven players but the lack of picks in the next few years makes it very scary if those 2 walk after the season.

I respect that. I like Beauvillier, he's an engine. The isles are going to have to find more consistent scoring. I know many fans hate the idea of trading Bailey. He would be my choice, but it's a way less attractive piece for another team unless you had quite a few things with him. Bellows, for whatever reason I don't think pans out well here with this coaching team and Salo or Bolduc should be your incentive pieces... both of them are not coming to play here full time anytime soon. 1, yes. both? no. as an organization, this is where they've failed in the past. need to figure out who's in the plans and who can be traded while their price is good to make the present roster better.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Isles10</b></div><div>Let’s get real shall we, look at the price Preds got back from Ryan Ellis, an elite defenseman, underwhelming is a understatement. Robin Salo were one of the best D-prospects in Europe this past season, Beauvillier is almost as good as Forsberg right now. And you want to give them picks too? They’re rentals and Ekholm is 30+, it would be terrible for the Isles.</div></div>
Besides Beauvillier, they're still prospects. Could Salo be a good player, maybe? I'd take this chance with 2 proven, NHL players. Only reason I'm moving Beauvillier is he's the rumored trade piece. I'd rather move him for a package like this then Tarasenko.

yea, been a real fun, hot debate between fan bases because STL side insists he's healthy and isles must give up Beauvillier. NYI fans playing the he's a hit away from being an Andrew Ladd type of contract and are willing to give up the bare minimum.
if this is really what's holding up Lou, it will be really interesting to see how it plays out. rumors this morning on sirius-xm had the Rangers battling with the isles for him.
I'd love to see Ekholm over Murray but Murray only cost money and Ekholm is more pieces that NYI don't have a lot of. I put one up of Forsberg and Ekholm for Beau, Salo, Bellows and a pick. 2 expiring contracts for a chance to win and NSH gets 3 young pieces to build and a pick.

this would be a nice haul for the isles. I don't think STL would want Komarov and retain.
also, with zero being heard from Ryan Murray's end, "sounds" like he might be headed to the island.

that's the hard part for STL getting what they want and teams who are interested... the unknown of his health and ability. yes, his doctors came out and said he's healthy... most people won't believe until they see it.
so, STL and their fans have to hope to hold him, hope he's healthy and hope he's motivated to get himself moved if he really doesn't want to be there.

the article said that's what Casey told Seattle when they approached him.
you've got to be hoping that's him telling a brand new team - "if I'm going to move my family and start over with a new team and leave my current one, you're going to have to pay me a kings ransom"... I say he goes for like 3-3.25 if he stays.

IF Tank gets traded, unless Armstrong finds a team that strikes out everywhere and gets desperate, it's going to be a let down of a return with no retention going the other way.
Yes, he was a great player for a number of years but injuries and publics sense of his attitude against STL is what GMs see and what they'll offer.
hopefully, they find a taker that gives STL what they want but they are not in a good situation.
