As much as I don't want Stastny, I see the appeal. He's played under Gallant, he won't break the bank, has good metrics and can be a 2C or 3C. My issue is we already know if he comes here he will be the 2C blocking Chytil, which serves no purpose IMO. I won't go crazy if it is a 1 year deal, maybe he ends up being like Steve Rucchin was that one season for us, but history tells us most old players that come to the Rangers are unproductive or just get hurt.

Rangers decline, unless the Hawks intend to sign Kane to an extension and retain 50% of his salary going forward. The Rangers aren't going to trade Kakko and 2 firsts along with a salary dump for a 1 year rental. Neil Smith and Glen Sather are long gone.

Cap Space
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>gdli</b></div><div>From the NYR perspective, J.T. Miller is one year rental. The NYR lack sufficient FREE CAP SPACE to retain J.T. in the out years. If the NYR intend to move some of their younger players at the end of next year, or this year for that matter, then this trade might make some sense. VAN will no doubt be looking for different young names than the ones in this trade proposal.</div></div>
As gdli said, the Rangers are going to be in cap hell next season. Laf, Miller, Jones, and Kravstov (if here all come off their ELC deals) so the Rangers will be up against the cap and won't have room to re-sign Miller. They already traded a first, 2nd, 4th, and prospect for Copp who is likely walking for nothing. I just don't see them giving up this package for a player who everyone knows is going to get 8 to 8.5 million at least if he reaches the open market. I am sure you can get a similar package from the Devils or Caps who will have the cap space, those are more likely teams he will be traded to IMO.

I would be shocked if Garand is with the NHL. They will sign a veteran goalie and let Garand get minutes in Hartford. Only way he is in NY is if there is an injury and let's hope that is not the case. I would think 24-25 season being the time he would be expected to make the step to the NHL. Goalies take a while to develop, Spencer Knight and Nico Daws are the only goalies under age 22 to play more than 4 games in the NHL last year.

2022-23 NYR - DYLAN STROME
No way the Rangers give up a 1st to get rid of Nemeth. He will either be buried in Hartford for the season or bought out, but that would be stupid when they can bury him for the year and have basically the same cap hit as a result. I could see Nemeth being moved with a 2nd and a 4th to dump him or maybe with a defensive prospect, but he won't be moved with a first rounder of that would have happened at the draft, plus they likely need the 1st to trade for a center or make a splash at the deadline.
Not sure I see Dylan Strome getting 4.2 plus the rumor is he may want to go to Edmonton to play with his buddy Connor.

Quite a haul for a player who supposedly is going to put in a trade request and may only want to come to the Rangers. If that happens Kane won't get nearly that package, and yes the Hawks will retain salary so they will get more than they probably did for DeBrincat, but I don't see Drury giving up that much even if they take Nemeth as the Hawks need to get to the cap floor. Also Garand is nowhere near being ready for the NHL, he will be the starter in Hartford as he needs minutes. Rangers will sign a cheap back-up or maybe even trade for Jake Allen or Khudobin provided Habs or Stars retain salary.

2022-23 NYR - Andrew Copp
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>gdli</b></div><div>The other candidates you mentioned are certainly candidates, no argument there. No buyout, agree 1000%. Chris certainly pulled a rabbit out of hat getting 3 picks for Georgy. Bulletin: Valeri Nichushkin just signed an 8 yr, $6.125M deal with the Avs. His production virtually matched Andrew Copp, with Copp having 1 more assist. As a C, Andrew is much better at face-off, and the NYR ability to retain Andrew just got a bit dimmer I'm afraid.</div></div>
Sadly, today is D-day for Copp in my opinion. If we don't re-sign him today I don't see him re-signing here once he hits the market, as Detroit and Nashville can offer him more money and likely the term he is looking for. To me it comes down to if Copp is willing to accept 5.5/5.75 for 5 years to have a chance to win a cup? He certainly won't have that anytime soon in Detroit, Nashville adding Copp and McDonagh are big moves, but not sure that puts them above Colorado or even St. Louis. I just think the Rangers will be moving on if the deal isn't done today. Chytil to 2C, sign an affordable 3C (White, Rodrigues, Jarnkrok, Dylan Strome, possibly Stastny - but I'd prefer not a 36 year old) and if Chytil isn't working out we make a deal in season or at the deadline. Getting PLD to play with Breadman would be great, but an extension would need to be worked out before we traded for him and it will cause us major issues down the road. Drury has how work cut out for him.

Re: Copp's price will be set based on the offers he receives when he dips is toe into the UFA frenzy. $6M or thereabouts is the max, and as you and I agree, $5.5M would be better. Term will be at least 5, maybe 6 years. Re-Signing Laffy, Miller and Chytil will be tight, but with $3.4M in Dead Cap coming off the books and another $1M increase in the salary cap, they should be able to make it happen. I think we see pretty much the same way!</div></div>
I am not sure if Arizona is the team Drury is looking at only because Nemeth has an 8 team no trade. I assume Sabres, Senators, Devils, Columbus are likely on that list and Yotes could easily be the 5th team (the other 3 are anyone's guess). Remember Nemeth missed a lot of time for personal reasons this past season, he had a baby, so who knows, maybe he wants to stay on the east coast. Either way, buying him out is foolish, it is clear teams can recoup picks as we did with Georgie.

Drury would have moved Nemeth if he could have at the draft. I think he is waiting to see if there is a team having trouble getting to the cap floor where he can dump Nemeth for a 2nd or maybe 2 picks if needed. Buying him out would be a dumb move, better off stashing him in the AHL this year and try to deal him again next season. I don't see the Rangers giving Copp over 5.5, though it is possible, makes signing Laf, Miller and depth players very difficult next season. 5.5 million for 5 years, first 3 years NMC, turns into an 8 team no trade in year 4. Best offer I think Copp will get from Drury as he is thinking big picture.

He is a player that fits what the rags are looking for, and to get a 99 point player, you need to give up your best prospect, look at recent trades like the eichel trade, I am not saying that miller is eichel, but he is more physical and has a better bill of health, he is probably worth 3/4 Eichel for when he was traded, and JE returned a

miller wont return a tuch, but he will return the top prospect, a roster player, a 1st and that is about 3/4 eichel</div></div>
I didn't say that I don't think Miller is worth or will get a package of that caliber you are asking for (but more likely at the deadline as opposed to when the season starts)... but the Rangers cannot afford ro deplete the system for a 99 point player who is going to command 8-9 million a season (so basically a rental) with K'Andre Miller and Laf needing new contracts next season. Also, as I stated above, the Rangers need players on ELC deals, Othmann fits that mold and has the best chance of any Rangers forward prospect to make the pro-team for the 23-24 season when Laf, Miller, Kravstov (if here), Jones, will all be off ELC deals. At that time only Schenider will be on an ELC. I believe the Nucks will find a trade partner like the Caps, Pitt or the Devils who may be willing to pay more than the Rangers will for Miller then can actually lock him up long term.

Othmann is definitely an untouchable, he is clearly our #1 prospect. Now if there is a sign and trade with JT Miller where the Nucks lock him up 5 more years and are willing to retain salary for 5 years, then you are onto something, but the Rangers need players on ELCs, which Othmann is when he likely comes to NY in the 23-24 season. I don't see Schenider being moved either. If there is a trade to be made it will likely be some combo of a 1st, Chytil or Kakko or Kravstov, and Lundkvist or Jones, if salary is retained an additional pick. If that isn't to your liking, find another team that will give you a better offer.

Wouldn't give Strome 3 million for 3 years, let alone 6 million a year. We all know they love him in the locker room, but he is not going to be a 2C on a team that wins a cup. On a cup contending team he should be a 3C, but that will never happen here. Drury needs to take the toys that Gallant can't stop playing with away from him. Copp or Chytil for 2C, Strome won't be coming back.

Pass on Rooney, Stepan, and Kinkaid. Rydahl will be our 4th line center, he apparently had a few offers but came here and plays with an edge for 750K that is perfect for the 4th line. Rather see a goalie who can hold down the fort if needed, Kinkaid was a good solider for us, but not sure he is the back-up we want for 82 games, if so Drury would have traded Georgiev at the deadline. I'd love to get White, but he will be a very hot commodity. Rodrigues and White would be my 3C targets if we can't agree to a deal with Copp and trade Nemeth with a pick to free up cap room.

Unfortunately, I don't see the Rangers moving Reaves. Gallant and the players love him, plus Sather is in Drury's ear. Remember what Sather told John Scott when he traded for him, he always wants the toughest SOB in the NHL on his team... I'd much rather have someone who can provide something and at least keep up with the action. As for the Edmonton trade apparently the Oiler locker room hates Puljujarvi, saying when the puck got on his stick, that is where the play would die. Khudobin and Faksa
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>HOCKEYBOY448</b></div><div>Honestly no matter how anyone slices it they over achieved this season. They’ll likely regress next year, especially considering the amount of talent they’re going to lose throughout the lineup. All this run will do is make them foolishly trade picks, prospects and younger players on the roster for veterans in an attempt to make a run for the cup. I have zero faith that management has learned from the fiasco that were the 2010’s, which seemed like we didn’t know what a prospect or draft pick looked like. Combined with the awful player development that occurs and our inability to develop high end forwards, I think we’re screwed and doomed to repeat the 2010’s, meaning a very good team, but not a great team that can get the job done and win the Stanley Cup. Maybe I’m wrong and they surprise, he’ll I’m looking forward to that day, but given the people at the top (Dolan, Sather who still lurks in the shadows and Drury) I’ve got my doubts.</div></div>
I completely agree that I am very concerned with what the Rangers will do with our skilled young forwards, particularly Chytil, Kakko, and Kravstov (as Drury already messed up with Kravstov twice). This problem goes back way further than the 2010's, Rangers moved Amonte, Weight, and Marchant for quick fixes to win a cup. Winning the cup was great, but that team was very old and had no youth to inject. That trend continued with the horrendous Marc Savard trade and that just off the top of my head. Drury made great deadline moves, but what he does this offseason will make our break the team for the next few years. Is he going to overpay for PLD and create a team that will need to be broken up in 2 years? Will he sign a Nick Paul to center the 3rd line, and promote Chytil, Laf, and Kakko to the top 6? Will he sign Stastny as a stop gap, and anyone who thinks Stastny will play 3rd line so Chytil can play on the 2nd line is delusional. Or will Drury lock up Copp or god forbid Strome, blocking Chytil which we all know will lead to him being traded. Up to Drury to break the cycle, sadly not sure I see that happening after getting the ECF, I expect the Rangers to go all in or better or worse.
