Yeah Rust + 1st is quite a bit stronger than Donskoi and Graves, for sure.

What a Graves to PITT would actually look like
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>redwingsfan04</b></div><div>I think some of the trades proposed by Colorado fans have been overvaluing Graves but this isn't anything that the Avs would even consider.</div></div>
I tend to agree, but he's a decent young d-man locked up for 3 years at a decent cap hit. Not many teams looking to shop such a player, so the Avs are in a position of strength in that regard.
They're also in no rush to trade him, so it'll have to be a decent offer.

Not better than losing Graves to Seattle. We trade him for a pick and then Seattle take another player weakening the team further. The only way Graves gets traded IMHO is for help at #3C. Especially after trading Cole and then waiving Pateryn. Also, the Avs are hoping for a deep run, they will need the depth.

I do like that Landeskog contract btw, $7.7m x 5 would be amazing. Doubt he settles for that short term though unless the money is higher.

That's a fair opinion. He is a bit of a black hole offensively, I won't argue against that.
However, for whatever reason that 2nd line just seems to click with Nichuskin/Kadri/Burakovsky. Analytically they were great last year together as a line.
It's probably a good thing for Burakovsky and Kadri to have a huge physical guy on the line who can handle forechecking and back-checking, it somehow frees up Kadri and Burakovsky to play their more offensive game.

Rakell and Bonino
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Xqb15</b></div><div>I think Bonino and Rackell are redundant to a point. Compher has been immensely disappointing as has the entire bottom 6 but already being short the next 2 yrs 2nds I wouldn’t be in a rush to trade any 1st rd picks. The one thing that is for certain on CF is fans overvalue players they like.</div></div>
I disagree. Bonino would make a big difference to our middle 6. Right now Bellemare is effectively our 3C as Compher's line gets less ice time, and even got benched in the last 10 minutes two games ago.
The 4th line has been our 2nd best line at 5v5 in terms of xG/60. Unfortunately they've been unable to finish chances though, but they're at least a net positive in terms of possession which is what you want from your 4th line.
The issue is the 2nd line, with Saad a -7 and Kadri a -6 through 5 games; along with the 3rd line which is anonymous. We have 0 goals at 5v5 from the bottom 3 lines through 5 games (Donskoi's goal was 1 second after the PP expired, and Saad's goal was on a shift with Mackinnon).
A lot of players are clearly in a funk to start the season, but some of these issues go back to last season. We really need a 3C in a big way.
That said, going back to talking trades, I wouldn't trade a 1st for Bonino. Probably the only 3C I would trade a 1st for would be Danault, but the way Montreal are playing he won't be available until he's an UFA, and then we'll get priced out as he wants 2C money.
We are now in our cup window though, and with a huge pile of futures at our disposal it's time to start getting a bit more aggressive than simply sticking to moves like a 4th for Namestnikov, or a 3rd for Brassard.

He'd be the 3C most likely. I wouldn't count on Newhook being ready for 3C duty this season. Makar was an exception.

Rakell
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Xqb15</b></div><div>Newhook would have to have the kind of season Makar did (Hobey Baker) for the Avs to even remotely consider that, and while I think he’s capable of it I just don’t see how they would burn a year especially knowing then you have to sign MacKinnon and Newhook in the same off season. If they did trade for Rackell I’d just drop him into 3C and not over complicate it.</div></div>
I think you're right. Having Mackinnon, Newhook, Byram, Kaut, all up for renewal in the same offseason would be crazy. Not to mention having to replace Compher/Donskoi/Graves if they stay until then.
That said, with Mackinnon's contract window and the impending Makar raise in mind it would be extremely tempting to try to jack the lineup as much as possible this season which is realistically our best shot at the cup.

No disrespect, but Minnesota isn't trading Bonino right now. Even if Minnesota is out of it, as I & others already discussed with you numerous times this week, Minnesota would rather trade Bonino for 2nd round pick & top prospect, or 1st round pick.
Minnesota doesn't want Tyson jost who they have to expose like I & others wrote to you this week. Feels like this is the 10th time seeing this post by you this week <a href="/users/Richard88" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">@Richard88</a>

Calvert ($2.825 million), Bellemare ($1.8 million), Saad ($5 million), Pateryn ($2.5 million), and one of Graves ($3.16 million), Compher ($3.5 million), or Donskoi ($3.9 million) coming off the books. They have the space to sign Makar, Landy, and Grubauer.
Getting EJ's contract off the books would be nice, but not for the price of Newhook.

Make the Cup run this year
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Xqb15</b></div><div>You aren’t getting 2 top 10 prospects for a goalie and I think Gibson has the most value in the league. It would be like ANA trading Zegras AND Drysdale they’d expect a lot more than a goalie. I was using save percentage as the measure and he has had his worst and 3rd worst seasons the last 2 years. But that’s me trying to drive the price down.</div></div>
I agree COL shouldn’t do it, but the point I’m trying to make is ANA has no reason to move him unless they get completely blown away and I doubt only one of them blows them away, a better ask would be one of them and Timmins but honestly I don’t think there is a realistic package out there for Gibson, much like Price when the Habs were bad I don’t see Gibson being moved

My take is this, MacKinnon has 3 years left, both Draisaitl and McDavid 6, and Rantenan 5. So the difference for your last 3 years will be the same or MacKinnon gets payed 12 and McDavid Draisaitl is worth less and way more valuable. So 5m for 3 years and then you have to get MacKinnon to resign and he has to resign for 11 or something for it to be less than the other 2 pairing. I'd say it's close, I'd keep MacKinnon if I'm colorado but it's my personal preference

Colorado wouldn't even consider this.
Cap hits aside, McDavid and Draisatil don't know how to play defence. MacKinnon and Rantanen do. Don't be fooled by all the pure offence of McDavid and Draisatil. MacKinnon and Rantanen are more complete players and will win before McDavid and Draisatil do, unless they learn to play defence fast.

Yeah, the burying is a big deal as well. Burying Cole might have been a bit awkward as he's a respected veteran, but with Pateryn there'll be no problems with waiving him to taxi squad him.

the upgrade from Kadri to Dubios isn't significant enough to justify Newhook in a trade
Heck newhook could easily eclipse Dubios, hes more of an offensive talent than Dubios and newhook is very very solid defensively.
