I feel like if the Canucks were to trade Miller to the Avs, they would target Newhook. Not that the Avs would agree to that but that’s likely what Vancouver would want</div></div>
Just doesn’t make sense to the avs. They can’t keep miller, he is going yo want a better deal that kadri got. Avs trade Newhook and they are in a worse spot next year. No formal 2c and they don’t have a high end young player like Newhook to dream in that role.
They can’t or won’t trade Newhook until they know what they have in him as a 2c. Why shoot yourself in the foot long term trading him now

I made a Colorado AGM today and didn't trade Girard.
I don't think Colorado has to trade Girard this year.
I think they have cap issues next year DEPENDING ON THE CONTRACTS MACKINNON, BYRAM AND NEWHOOK RECIEVE
Trading Girard to sign those 3 makes sense as he has value and Colorado doesn't really have cap dumps to move.
You said your wouldn't trade Girard for a Rental, I provided a hypothetical and you won't answer and instead attack me personally</div></div>
you tried to move the goal posts in your crusade of trading girard nonsense, this is about Miller and Girard.
No one personally attacked you, you are the one engaging constantly. Saying you obsessed with the avs cap...which is just a fact based on your recent engagement. Thats not an attack.

Is it wrong to say that Romanov was traded for a 1st
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Xqb15a</b></div><div>I mean technically yes they got a 1st for Romanov, value wise they kicked a 4th rd pick with him to get that so the overall value theoretically wasn’t a 1st but that’s some lawyer speak in my opinion. Yes they got a 1st for Romanov.</div></div>
Yeah that's what I was saying in the argument, all that started because I said Hughes acquired four 1sts (Toffoli, Chiarot, Romanov, Monahan) compared to Bergevin's single 1st (Kotkaniemi offersheet).
Then I was told he didn't acquire one of those because he flipped it.

Dvorak to COL and Subban back in town
It'd be awesome if Habs fans could let go of the idea that the Avs want Dvorak. It's getting old at this point considering we could sign one of Rodrigues or Stastny for what would likely be half the price. Just let it go. It's not happening.

No, he's not worth that. And no, you don't pay for retention when the only thing retention does is get the salary to a reasonable point. He's completely unmoveable without it.

Miller to New Jer
Avs wouldnt be entertaining that type of trade, a 2023 1st and Newhook and their best D prospect for a rental is beyond an overpayment for them
Miller is awful defensively, so if you are as only good as your last season, A 2c who can not be trusted defensively isnt gaining 3 of the avs best future pieces.

One injury blows an absolute hole through this team, plus adding $4.5M over the next 2 when you have 7 players on the roster that need new contracts next year and only one of them is likely to make less than they currently are. Also, did you waive Ben Meyers?

Dvorak isnt an option for the avs. They'll stick with the cheaper JTC and keep the picks. Dvorak's contract will be too tough to fit. Gotta keep future money open for Mack(EJ), Byram and Newhook.

No one saw this coming
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Xqb15a</b></div><div>This is compelling. The only reason I don’t think COL does this is right there on the depth chart. MacDermid playing every night in the 3rd pairing is a brutal. Love Dermy but his role with the Avs is clearly defined 13th forward plays when the other team is notoriously hit heavy or as emergency dman. I would seriously consider, and if they had either Barron or Helleson now it would be a slam dunk. Really creative, good post.</div></div>
Adding 1m in cap space for next year is a bit tough as well, it would already be quite tight as it is with Girard in the fold. You swap out a 5m aav for 6m aav. Then you really are squeezing on one of newhook or Byram on their next contracts.
Idea this year is interesting, long term, I dunno

Beauvillier makes more sense for the Isles but probably not Colorado. They only need help at pivot.
I don't think the team has any interest in trading Girard anyway tbh. They would probably have to at least think about it if Nelson were offered though (which I don't think will happen).

I think that genuinely just depends on the team. He can do either very well. I think he’s better at C but he’s probably more valuable with more ice time. For a team like Colorado he might be better at 2C well on a team like the Islanders he could be a better 1 W

He did say close. 1st for a 1st is a wash. Prospect, roster player. Then a 2nd for a 3rd. Tuch had term and the 2nd for a 3rd is the only real difference.
My argument isn't that the trade is unfair. Only that it isn't smart.

32 in 32 lineups - Colorado Avalanche
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>coga16</b></div><div>there were some rumblings that Stastny and the Avs already have a handshake deal in place
You are overlooking Ben Meyers on the roster, slot in on the Avs third line next year.</div></div>
meyers is interesting, didnt know how good he was in the regular season. probably takes cogliano's spot on the third, who gets moved to the fourth and probably one of maltsev or galch (on this roster at least) gets scratched
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>UpsideDownQue</b></div><div>Only issue with Stastny is if theres any bad blood between him and the Avs based on how he left them years ago. If everyone is over that then I think hes a perfect fit
Rask had very solid underlying numbers the past 2 seasons, especially defensively - that seems like the kind of forward the Avs like. Youre probably right he wouldnt cost 2.5M so if they can get him cheaper then thats even better
<img class="for_img" src="https://i.imgur.com/qrJZ1vsh.png" alt="qrJZ1vsh.png"></div></div>
so if the avs add stastny for 2.5 and rask for, say, 1.25, it should fit in cap wise if you remove galchenyuk and pitlick from the roster, and then you have a roster of:
Landeskog - MacKinnon - Rantanen
Lehkonen - Stastny - Nichushkin
Meyers - Newhook - Compher
Cogliano - Rask - Helm
(Sedlak, Maltsev)
defense same, goalie same
i'd say thats solid if stastny performs like a 2C, and its even better if newhook does too. honestly this is a scary good COL team

Either way its in the past now - I agree I dont think Stastny or the Avs would have any issues with a reunion at this point</div></div>
officially he wasnt named GM until September 2014, Roy was also the VP of Hockey Ops at that time, coming on board in 2013. He was acting as a partial GM as well while Sherman was basically just managing the Cap. "TSN's Bob McKenzie reported that Roy would have the final say in all hockey matters. Then-Avalanche General Manager Greg Sherman retained his post, but was considered the general manager "in name only"
man looking back to that, what a messy situation in that front office, no wonder it didnt work.
