Pinto is a really good 3C TB has Nick Paul in that role.2C Anthony Cirelli has that . Katchouk is a 4th liner TB knows.</div></div>
Are you really trying to justify TB not making that trade? lol they would absolutely RUN with it without thinking, one of the worst proposals I have seen and that is saying a lot.

Bring him home
- I'd much rather have Chabot who is 7 years younger.
- No one is going to trade for Norris until his injury situation is sorted out
- Roy is not a contract Vegas would look to move
- Coyotes don't need more futures, they have a million picks and prospects already
- I'd be tempted to take a chance with Gibson but he makes 2.4 AAV more than Korpisalo. If it doesn't work, they're screwed.

- Connor Brown is unfortunately not the same player as before his injury. Just keep Kastelic instead. Kelly-Blueger-Kastelic could be a good 4th line. Actually, since you have Heinen, he certainly makes the team
- Too expensive to bury Korpisalo, might as well buy him out. Keep Sogaard one more year in the AHL, keep Forsberg for the last year of his contract instead of buying him out.
- No chance you can get DeMelo at that price
- A bit too long for Teräväinen
- I don't know about Norris buyout... not sure they'd really consider that

Pens 2024
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Claesson4Norris</b></div><div>It's easy to point at the big, high profile Ls and laugh. The Duchene trades, the Stone debacle, the Boucher pick, the DeBrincat mess. But nearly as bad is the sheer amount of quality depth Ottawa had and let go. Like, imagine how much better a position Ottawa could be in if they had held on to guys like Daccord, DeMelo, Amadio etc. Hell, even a guy like Filip Chlapik I'm still convinced, was and is a better player than like 95% of the guys Ottawa has trotted out in the bottom six since he left.</div></div>
Yet, you're only talking about a portion of Dorion's mismanagement
What about the 1st we're going to lose with the Dadonov debacle?
What about trading Dylan DeMelo for a freaking 3rd round pick when he was the ideal partner for Thomas Chabot? But it was just a few months after acquiring the Nikita Elite Zaitsev so no need for DeMelo! The Zaitsev deal ended up as another horrible trade, despite Connor Brown attempts to make it a contest.
What about giving up a 2nd for Derek Stepan? Think about how much it cost to move a 6.5 cap hit for a bottom-6 player
Or the beloved first Dorion trade? Mika Zibanejad and a 2nd for 29 y/o Brassard
You're talking about Chlapik... They decided to waive Filip Chlapik and Rudolfs Balcers instead of Cedric Paquette, Artem Anisimov or Alex Galchenyuk. I mean, Balcers and Chlapik didn't destroy the NHL but Balcers was a solid 2-way 3rd line winger for 2 years before injuries kinda ruined him but both are having nice success in Europe. You waive 2 of the 3 guys I mentioned and give the young players a chance. This was ridiculous and showed to me their pro scouting ability
And all the picks traded to acquire guys like Gudbranson, Josh Brown, etc when you could have been PAID to take on contracts and probably end up with better players.
Dorion's tenure was just a continuous nightmare. It was not as easy during the firesale because that's the easiest job in the world : sell your players for the most you can get (look at the returns for Duchene and Stone lol) and draft HIGH
Even regarding that very EASY job, Dorion screwed up on most of it. Really, there's 5 moves that ended up being very beneficial :
- Karlsson's return
- Pageau's return
- Artem Zub
- Claude Giroux
- Batherson's contract
The rest is pretty much HORRIBLE

Fixing Ottawa Maybe Idk anymore
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>SociallyHawkward</b></div><div>Murphy is a perfect top pair defenseman for any team that has a stud offensive LD. His numbers are ugly on the hawks cus everyone's numbers are ugly on the hawks. The team is bad by design. To other teams I think his value is probably a late 1st. For the hawks to actually consider moving him they'd probably want a 1st and a solid RD prospect. He's a leader for the young defenseman on the hawks so for them to give that up they would need an overpay. Now if he requested a trade that price would obviously come down but he seems pretty happy in chicago.
Also brannstrom is a lefty which is the deepest position chicago has.</div></div>
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Hawksguy81</b></div><div>Hawks likely don't consider trading Murphy for anything less than a 1st or an equivalent high end prospect. Hawks have been awful (by design) for the past two years. Murphy had no shot at putting up any sort of good stats. He has played most of this season w/ Korchinski, and it appears GM Kyle from Chicago and Coach Luke want that same pair together next season as well.
No hate meant for Branny, but the Hawks aren't looking for any more LD. They're loaded at LD. They've already moved former 1st rounder Nolan Allen over to his off side on the right so he has a path to the NHL.
That proposed package from Ottawa has a lot of pieces but nothing that would be very interesting from the Hawks perspective.</div></div>
I'll respond to both quotes since it's the same subject. Note that I am not trying to argue about Chicago needs as I don't know enough about them, simply trying to gauge value. But thanks for the input, I understand it makes no sense to trade a solid veteran for quantity of pieces you don't really need.
Regarding value, Boucher is worth about a 4th (value keeps going down), Thomson a 7th at most (lost pretty much all his value this season), but Brännström is worth a 2nd/3rd even if I would not trade him like that at all. I would trade Chychrun, keep Brannstrom and invest in a RHD. LD is strong as it is with Chabot, Sanderson, Brannstrom and Kleven. Good thing about Brann is he can play basically everywhere in the lineup outside of Center and Goalie. He played 1 game on the 4th line wing and that was the best game from a Sens 4th line in basically the whole rebuild. When Chabot/Sanderson is injured, he gets more ice/responsibility and does really well. He constantly flashes skill and plays smart 2-way hockey. Of course, he can't handle big forwards abut he's quick and smart. His biggest problem I'd say is that he isn't able to create enough offense with his shot.
So at worst you got two 3rd round picks and two 4th round picks. Hard to find exact comparable trade but I see Brenden Dillon traded in 2021 for two 2nd round picks. I think Brannstrom, Boucher and the picks is a bit more valuable.
But yeah, not the type of trade the Hawks would want/need to make. Sell Murphy for the best quality asset possible or just keep him for now.

If you were to grade coaches out of 100? Martin Murray are well over the 70%. No one is going to convince me that DJ smith would even hit the 50% percentile. If Ottawa brings in a Gerard Gallant, Laviolette, or Quennville? I bet this team "as-is" makes the playoffs next year. Issue is, this is a young team that needs a training camp on how to put an actual system together and actually create an identity as a team. The players brought here to be the core is more than just fine. The coaching provided to these players has been utterly pathetic. Without many veterans who have tasted success in the lineup, it hasn't helped.</div></div>
Coaching staff are hired by the GM, it's part of his job. DJ's staff is just another testament how bad Dorion was at his job
The list is way too long on the problems Dorion has created and we have been paying for it and will continue to do so. It will take time to recover from Dorion's mess. We haven't even forfeited the 1st round pick yet.

There was a 20 games stretch after January 11th where the Sens had a good record and were top-5 in all metrics. The wheels fell off again but they still do some things much better than any time during DJ Smith's tenure. It was always going to take some time after 7 years of Dorion and 5 seasons of DJ

lol that Batherson trade is horrendous. I know Sens goaltending has been the worst in the league this season but giving a top line forward and #2-3 D-man (both 25 y/o) to get a goalie with 1 year left is C.R.A.Z.Y.

I can understand the "feeling" but "<em>borderline third pair D</em>" doesn't mean anything. Brannstrom literally has the best D metrics on the team over the last 2 seasons and among the top in the league. He has been crushing his role at times.
I would personally trade Chychrun and keep Brannstrom over a 2nd round pick. The guy is a very nice insurance policy if someone in the Top-4 gets injured, he has played very well when that happened, which also shows that he is a lot more than your "definition"

It would be literally stupid to move Batherson's contract. The guy is uber skilled and has produced 66 pts per 82 overall in the last 3 seasons, and that despite this really bad injury from Dell's cheapshot

You often make these opinionated statements but do you have anything substantial that shows that Parayko is better? His metrics took a significant nosedive the last 3 years... both Chychrun and Chabot heavily outproduce Parayko year after year so there's that. Curious to read the digs.

It's because the average hockey fan doesn't even know what defense is. They still think transition is not part of "defending". Not a smart trade for Ottawa and doesn't seem to fit both team needs.
Fowler is 5 years older than Chabot, good D-man but also a left D-man and only makes 1.5 AAV less. Chabot is elite at play driving and transition in all zones. Not a good move for Ottawa. They would need to add a Fowler type on the right side though (but younger)
The last thing Ottawa needs is a player with fancy skill. They need more Mathieu Joseph types and you're trading him away here.

-33rd OVR (2024 2nd), and
-likely a top 10 pick in 2025
...for just two star players? One of which is a UFA next summer, the other is a UFA right around when Chicago would be good again. Neither of which fit very well age-wise with Bedard's prime years. Chicago knows how to build a dynasty, and making trades like that ain't how you do it.</div></div>
- Athanasiou is a pure cap dump, I wouldn't pick him up on waivers. He's awful outside of his speed.
- Chicago's 1st is not guaranteed to be 1st OA
- Sens don't even need or have a spot for Korchinski (they already have to trade Chychrun), he wouldn't be targeted
Let's say Chychrun gets Korchinski + 2024 2nd round pick (CHI) (+ Athanasiou dump)
It becomes Tkachuk for 2024 1st round pick (CHI) + 2025 1st round pick (TOR) (which would be late)
Not as outrageous as being portrayed in this thread. Ottawa 100% is not making that if the pick is not Celebrini
But 100% agreed that the Hawks should not do this and try to rush their rebuild. Both teams don't and should not do it (Sens only if it's Celibrini and if they could target a piece other than Korchinski)
