If I am Vegas, Whitecloud is not a contract I'd move. They will look somewhere else to save cap

Sens had the team to be a playoffs team this season, on paper but couldn't afford to go into the offseason with Dorion and in the season with DJ Smith. Dorion signed Korpisalo and re-signed Hamonic. Tarasenko signing was good but also brought Uselesslik

Problem is the team sale only got official in September... so it was another wasted season

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Steven_Stamkos</b></div><div>I think Ottawa needs to worry about being in a playoff hunt before even talking about contending for a cup.</div></div>
Exactly, sometimes I see comments "<em>yeah but cup winners don't have small D-men like Brannstrom</em>"... and I'm like can we start making the playoffs first?

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Voice_Of_Thruth</b></div><div>All depends on the coach. People keep underestimating the importance of a coach.

But since Ottawa can't seem to do anything right they will likely hire a washed coach who has been past around like a blund for the last ten years.</div></div>
7 years of Dorion, finally ended up a few months ago. Lets' give the new ownership and management a chance to prove themselves.

People don't realize how bad Dorion was, the worst GM of all time IMO (yes, worse than Milbury)

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>mokumboi</b></div><div>In the fantasy world where these trades happen, I'd guess you're still a bit short of contender status. I think you'd be in the if this team misses the playoffs heads are gonna roll tier.</div></div>
Heads just rolled... finally. They are obviously going to retool Dorion's crap

Batherson : 25 y/o, 3 more years at 4.975 AAV. 153 pts in 190 games the last 3 seasons, 66 pts pace per 82 games. You won't get that type of production for that cap hit anywhere

Tkachuk : 24 y/o, 4 more years at 8.2 AAV, 92 goals, 202 pts in 222 games the last 3 seasons... 34 goals, 75 pts pace per 82 games. Plays a rare power forward game, intimidate the opposition, makes it hard for defense and goalies, can fight with almost everyone... Why trade an unicorn?

Giroux : 36 y/o, one more year at 6.5 AAV, 132 pts in 144 games the last 2 seasons with Ottawa... 75 pts pace per 82 games. Why would you trade a vet that this team has been vastly lacking of, a guy who wants to be home and has been giving up crazy value on his contract.

Norris : Hasn't played a lot since his injury troubles and not at the same level... Not that I am opposed to trade him but he is Tkachuk big buddy and doesn't have positive value right now. He might just be on LTIR for a while, no one is going to trade for him now.

Chabot vs Chychrun : my thought is that Chabot is the better player easily and should be kept over Chychrun. It has been very clear how much better the team is when Chabot is in the lineup vs not. That said, I don't think you can afford to trade both, unless you are getting at least another high end D-man.

Brännström : I don't see the point trading him, you're not going to get a lot of value back and if you trade Chychrun (or Chabot), then he becomes even more important. Can play both sides, even wing, isn't expensive, is still young, provides quality 2-way hockey and is an insurance policy for an injury in the Top-4

Stutzle
Tkachuk
Batherson
Giroux
Pinto
Greig
Joseph

Sanderson
Chabot
Zub

Giroux, Zub and Joseph as vets I keep. No point trading them due to leadership (Giroux), cap hit (Batherson) or position (Zub as a RHD)

I have 7 Top-9 forwards, need to fill out the top-9 adequately. It's not about name recognition, need smart pick ups

Norris is a wildcard... let his health status figure out itself or he stays on LTIR.

I have 3 Top-4 D-men. Need someone different than Chychrun, a RHD

For the Bot-3 D-men, Brannstrom and JBD could be kept but need a much much better vet than Hamonic. Someone like Gudas or Luke Schenn would have been nice

Need to rebuild the goaltending, again. Keep Sogaard and Merilainen in the mix and wait that they earn their spot.

Problem is outside of Korpisalo and Chychrun (of course Kubalik and Hamonic too), and to rebuild the 4th line while adding a Top-4 RHD, I don't see much that is needed to be done. Coaching will need to be top notch. Nothing against JM and Alfie and at least they have started the healing but they are not long term solutions

At least we should be able to get a great piece in the Top-10 of the 2024 draft

Ottawa accepts

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Riddick19</b></div><div>Yeah Ottawa won't be taking that deal. The best piece would be a solid 1st rounder, and that would have to be unprotected. Bolduc, &amp; Wahlstrom are older prospects that don't look like much. Ottawa has no need for JGP... Even with salary retained. Ottawa for sure passes on this deal. Sucks for the Isles because they don't really have a lot to deal.... But need pure talent, but have a strong enough team to not be where you pick the elite talent in the draft.</div></div>
1 + 2 + 3 is a very solid base.

Pageau at 2.5 AAV x 2 years is also good, brings experience and solid defensive play. Nice insurance policy to cover for Norris injury situation too.

Bolduc is 6'4 and only 23 y/o, never have enough D-men with size.

Wahlstrom is cheap and only 23 y/o, don't think he has much value left but would still be a better player than Kubalik was this season, for example. But with ZERO risks and cost.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Riddick19</b></div><div>Ottawa was there for years until we went into complete rebuild.</div></div>
There would be a lot to say about this but quickly, but Ottawa was relatively successful during that transition phase after being serious contenders for a decade (98-08). After the semi-rebuild on the fly in 2009, they made the playoffs 5 out of 8 seasons and won 3 rounds, almost made the SCF in 2017, which is much more than the Leafs did in 20 years, for example.

I say this because the way you word it is "thankfully we were finally able to fully rebuild"... but that doesn't account that we had terrible ownership and just as bad management. We did a lot more during "these years" than during the current rebuild. We don't even sniff the playoffs with Dorion's rebuild.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>athrin</b></div><div>JGP is a non-starter for OTT, they could spend that 2.5M on a younger and way better p[layer, the prospects are meaningless and do nothing for OTT. this is a deal OTT declines quite easy</div></div>
Disagree.

1. NO NO NO. Not touching Dubois with a ten foot pole. If Norris overcomes his injury troubles, he's a much much better player. If not, he is on LTIR which allows a lot of cap maneuver

2. Drysdale is young but that is pretty risky. If the Sens brass still have faith in him, it could be doable but it's risky

3. This makes sense but Whitecloud is most likely a contract they want to keep. They'd look to trade a more expensive guy probably.

4. I'd retain on Korpisalo and trade him instead.

Brannstrom also disappeared for nothing. I wouldn't trade Brannstrom for Dubois 1 for 1 just to give you an idea.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>StutzlesNumber1Fan</b></div><div>While I think PLD is better than Norris.</div></div>
Dubois isn't better at all, just a lot more healthier.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>StutzlesNumber1Fan</b></div><div>The rest of the signings and trades I like, good job. That roster looks beautiful compared to what we have right now.</div></div>
Don't agree at all

- Of course, if you win the Celibrini lottery it helps but it relies on luck. Odds are 8.5% as of now

- Norris &gt; Dubois

- Connor Brown is not the same player as before his injury.

- Maroon brings nice experience but he will be 36 y/o... and already so slow

- Whitecloud would be a good acquisition but doubt Vergas would want to move that contract. Drysdale has potential but as of now, huge downgrade on Chychrun, who admittedly, played like crap this season compared to what he can do. Brannstrom also disappeared for nothing, the guy who has the best metrics on Sens D the last 2 seasons combined.

- I really don't see Nedeljkovic as an upgrade over Forsberg although Anton has faced a lot of injury adversity lately
