Reworking caniac58s Nashville trade
I think if the Preds made a deal for Necas, it'd be to pair him with Forsberg long term.

Aside from all these trades where we're trying to buy our way out of the middle with aging players and giving up all the picks we've acquired to do it, you've also buried 4 players that would get picked up for nothing in Lankinen, Glass, Fabbro, and Trenin. Glass is the only one who might pass through, but the rest all have some value to a contending team. The only one that might happen is the FLA trade for Barrie, but I personally don't see the Preds buying.

Did you see them get throttled by the Ducks last night for the 2nd time at home this season? It won't be a major selloff, but selling is more likely than buying.

Would you do it if it was a deadline deal for this season? Mercer fills a huge need for the Preds.

Dallas should be all over this one, but I understand this trade the least. Why get Marchment if you're retooling? That just blocks a roster spot from the talent expected to develop.

Deadline Deals if contending
If we're making deadline deals to go for it, these don't feel like the right ones, imo. I look at this roster and only think 2nd round of the playoffs at best. Even if they're contending at the deadline, I think they gotta be patient to stick with a long-term plan.

Moving that TBL 1st is a bad idea. TBL has to decline at some point with the way they continually trade picks and their core will eventually age. Holding onto that pick could lead to getting the franchise forward Trotz wants.

Big Trade
I love Forsberg and everything he's done for NSH, but I'm strongly considering that move if I'm Trotz. Get a player that's 4 years younger off a breakout season when you're looking to be younger/faster in exchange for someone who hasn't played a full season in the last 6 years. That's hard to pass up.

Playoff Push
Couture and Braun don't make this a team that can do damage in the playoffs, if they even make this a team capable of getting in as a WC2. We should stand pat or sell, get rid of Hynes, force Poile to retire, and start fresh.

Nashville Predators signed Cole Smith (1 Year / $775,000 AAV)
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>oilersguy</b></div><div>what is so bad about this guy?</div></div>
It's not Smith personally, but what it represents. He was chosen over Tolvanen and has 2 goals to show for it. The Preds need to get younger and faster forwards with high scoring ability, not continue loading up on NHL/AHL fringe guys. Preds fans want out of the mediocrity pool. 1st round exits as the WC2 aren't going to be celebrated like they were 15 years ago.

What I would like to see happen
I don't know if NYR is the right partner for Ekholm. Miller and Lindgren are already on the left side, plus the cap hit. Overall, I like the idea of selling and retooling, but I don't expect Poile to do it.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>NDoody</b></div><div>Would Preds fans get behind this trade, I wouldn't think moving Fabbro and saros would cost more.
Fabbro can fill the spot JDB should eventually and this move also opens up the goalie position for the Sens very well.
Not sure what the deal with Formenton is, I think it is still tied to the World Junior scandal. I had heard that every time already had a chance to trade for him and no one wanted him for cheap, so not sure how much that will change by the summer.</div></div>
Forgot about the scandal part. Maybe they're decent trade partners, but the details could be improved.
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>gmgb</b></div><div>Ekholm's value is probably a touch higher than two cap dumps.</div></div>

My Best Guess at Horvat Trade
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>YesThisIsFlo</b></div><div>I agree NSH aren't in a good enough position for rentals. I more so figured Horvat and Garland would be a fit for the 2-3 year window the current core has.
It would probably amount to Poile's final shot at some cup runs before retiring. Him being 72 also played a role in why I thought they might push for it in the next couple years. Doubt he'll be around to see the next core, post Josi and Duchene, come to fruition.</div></div>
Poile doesn't need to be around to see this core play out. It's time for fresh perspective, but the ownership group is hands off. Waiving Tolvanen ahead of Smith, McCarron, or Jankowski with a bottom 10 team in scoring should be the final nail in the coffin of a declining team, but it won't be. The whole thing needs to be reset so it's not a constant struggle for WC2.

Do these moves work
I don't see any of these deals happening. AZ would want more back for their best player. These also feel like moves just for the sake of changing something. I personally don't look at this lineup and feel any different than I do looking at the current one.

I tried to get Josi and Mac into the lineup, but couldn't get the cap to work. It got close taking out Fox/Lindgren and using Lankinen/Halak for backups, but I liked this better.

I don't think he's on the outs. Management wants him to develop more of a two-way game. Given the patience they've shown with Tolvanen, I would expect more of the same with Tomasino.

Ryan Hartman costs you $1M less than Kunin for 3x the production. Trust me, SJ got fleeced on that trade and contract. Kunin is nothing more than a warm body that takes penalties at the worst possible moment.

How far does this team make it
Adding Tkachuk by subtracting Duchene doesn't improve this team. It takes it right back where it was last year. Maybe with improved defense and a healthy Saros it's a 4-2 1st round loss instead of a sweep. The only way to get Tkachuk at this point is moving at least 1 of Ekholm or Granlund with a couple prospects and a 1st.
You've also wasted $2M in cap space with Lucic being included and buried.
