My shot at Tkachuk
I think those are the only realistic pieces the Preds could offer to get it under the cap and add forward depth. Jeannot-Joey-Tkachuk would be a very tough line to play against.

Moves
I don't think the Preds can swing it. There's no doubt Tkachuk would make the roster better, but at the cost of 1st + 3 forwards when forward depth is already scarce doesn't feel like the right deal. It could easily be another season where career years only lead to a 1st round sweep.

Cap Relief Champs
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Sabertooth</b></div><div>I assume cap will go up 1-2M next season. And unless Glass breaks out his deal won’t be a lot. You would also hope that Fabbro getting easier assignments can boost him enough to trade him away and get a prospect back. Then it’s say 8.5 to give to carrier and Jeannot.
Giving johansen great line mates could also hopefully make him attractive to other teams. Even if you retained $2M on him, it opens up $6M</div></div>
I think the agreement is the cap goes up $1M the next two years, at least that's how it looks on the long-term outlook tab. I see what you're saying, but hearing what Poile said today about any additions to the roster likely not being on long term contracts, I don't think Garland is the piece the Preds add. It's definitely an interesting trade idea, but it sounds like Poile is looking for someone who can play top 6 on a 1 or 2 year deal to save cap space for this group to resign next year.

How do you plan to resign Jeannot, Glass, Fabbro, and Carrier with only $8.5M next year? I don't think this deal makes sense for NSH.

Get rid of Johansen
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Ichbinian</b></div><div>In terms of fitting into the system, I think I view Schmaltz and Johansen as VERY similar players. Johansen is a little more physical and aggressive I suppose, but they both have similar stats and playmaking ability.</div></div>
I think their size difference with Hynes' system is what makes this a difficult trade. Joey has a couple inches and 40 lbs on Schmaltz. Afanasyev is also a big body prospect. It's an interesting trade idea, but not one I could see happening.

I like the Preds trade. Makes sense to give Tolvanen a fresh start and upgrade the 2nd line at the same time.

I agree, it would be a mistake. If Fil chooses to leave and Poile doesn't want to tear it down, I see him making desperate moves like this to keep the cup chances alive in his mind. I don't want it to come to this, but something like this won't surprise me either.

I agree, this all feels like lateral movement. Nothing has really changed to improve production or depth. This still has 1st round sweep written all over it.

Game 3 Lines Change
I like the idea of mixing things up some, but I'd rather see this:
Forsberg - Johansen - Duchene
Glass - Granlund - Tomasino
Jeannot - Sissons - Trenin
Tolvanen - McCarron - Luff
I'm personally keeping Benning over Myers. It's long overdue for Kunin to be scratched. Tolvanen has been playing lower lines all year, might as well have a solid scoring option on that line and give Glass some good ice time.

Next year
Some of this doesn't make sense to me. Signing Dzingel instead of resigning Kunin. Breaking up the Trenin-Sissons-Jeannot line. I would love a Saros/MAF combo, but can't see that happening.
Need to add a middle 6 forward better than Dzingel. Someone like Burakovsky, Nichushkin, Marchment, Niederreiter, etc. Then you can set lines like Forsberg-Johansen-Duchene, Tolvanen-Glass-Tomasino, XXX-Granlund-Kunin, Trenin-Sissons-Jeannot.

I don't like the CBJ trade. Too much to give up for Laine, and I'm not sure his work ethic would match up with Hynes either. If ANA would take that trade, it's a good upgrade on RD.

What the Colorado Avalanche look like today if the Flyers took Cale Makar
Feel like it has to be Pettersson. COL had a big need at D when he was taken, but he and Heiskanen are clearly a level above every other D taken in that draft.

Why not Nashville
I think Nashville stays out of this because adding Eichel takes away what little depth we have, and we're not at the point of someone like Eichel pushing us into immediate SC contention.

Potential Look at the End of the Year
All of these moves make sense on the surface to me. The only one I'm questioning is Ekholm. As valuable of a trade chip as he would be, he's said over and over he doesn't want to go. If we signed him short term, like 3-4 years and less than $6M, I'd be ok with not moving him. He's still solid for 20+ minutes a night.
I'm expecting Forsberg to be traded if we're not close to the WC bubble by the Olympic break.

Ricochetii Challenge
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>ricochetii</b></div><div>I figured people would go for MacKinnon, probably one of the best values in the league right now.
Chychrun should be another popular choice. Even if he's on the 2nd pairing, the dollar value is good.
Bonino is probably an underrated choice. Would have been my preferred 3C if I didn't go with Hertl.
It's interesting to see what people can come up with when options are more limited. This challenge probably isn't restrictive enough, but too many limitations and all the teams look sameish.
Did you find the final cuts difficult after seeing who you were left with? (I picked too many RD so it was a tough call for the final spots.)
Another aspect is where people choose to make budget cuts. You elected not to pick up any "high priced" skaters and probably made your D a little deeper with cheaper options in goal. Risky, but part of the fun.
Nice job overall!</div></div>
Yeah, I had some of the same problems when I got to the end. I wanted to build a mostly two-way top 9 and strong defense. Goalies may be young/unproven, but that group in front should help out. Hardest part at the end was making Pulock work. I originally had Hakanpaa, but that seemed silly, so I moved stuff around.

You've got a solid team too, probably better than mine. Getting Hellebuyck to fit with that top 9 and defense make this a tough team to beat.

SJS also pass.</div></div>
Essentially saying Tkachuk is worth more money than McDavid and 4 picks on top of it. I agree, no thanks to any of this.
