Standings Prediction
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>DefenseFirst</b></div><div>Don’t get me wrong, its the bruins two best players. That’s going to hurt, particularly with mcavoy. But what are they going to miss? 15 games? Maybe 20? I think they can tread water for that stretch given the depth. The top six still looks pretty good, and having lindholm back there to anchor the D will certainly help things.
Ottawa’s off-season was incredible. No argument there. I still think they’re a year away though.
The devils on the other hand…ya, i don’t see it. An amazing top six? Hughes is awesome, but I certainly worry about injuries with him. Hischier is good, but I think I would wait for him to have a season north of 60 points before thinking of him as an amazing top six center. Then there’s Palat who is certainly a good second liner, and Brett who had a breakout year. But beyond that, what are we calling amazing? Who’s got the better top six, boston with the injury to marchand, or jersey?
I’m not a fan of their blue line at all. I’m not a fan of dougie, and think he has massive holes in his game. I think it’s kind of telling that teams generally seem to get better once he’s off the roster.
Then there’s the goaltending, the biggest issue. The devils chose to address that problem by taking a backup goalie from another team that had really bad goaltending.
I just can’t see the devils making any sort of a jump forward that would have them sniffing the playoffs.</div></div>
I just wanted to go back to this post because I wanted to say "ha" (and yes I am petty for this)

Fixing the bottom 6
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Hammerwise</b></div><div>Not bad and not outside the realm.
Domi is a UFA and not really playing well enough, so CHI moving him for a high midlevel prospect like Hirvonen a weak prospect Voit and I would say a 3rd rounder is close for both teams.
Mayfield would get the 2nd I've taken from above, AND a better prospect than Tverberg, probably a Steeves or Amirov and a 4th. So a 2nd and a recovered Amirov and a 4th, thats close for both teams.
I would only point out that basing your deadline moves on Muzzin and his 5.6mil still being on LTIR is probably not accurate, and even without a 19th skater, you're still 2mil short. Wishing away Muzzin doesn;t make it happen</div></div>
Muzzin was just added to LTIR and it seems like he is done for the season if not the rest of his career

Standings Prediction
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>DefenseFirst</b></div><div>I completely understand it given the injuries to start the season, but this feels like year three or four straight where the consensus around here was that this was the year the bruins would step back.
I have a really hard time seeing both Ottawa and New Jersey being better.
That said i have an even harder time seeing either the wild or the rangers in the final. I could see the rangers missing the playoffs.</div></div>
With the Bruins I had a hard time putting them there, every time you bet against the Bruins they do even better than the year before. I just think the injuries they have (best forward and best defenseman) is going to be hard to replace that production.
With Ottawa I think they did a good job this offseason and have the goaltending depth to do well without Talbot plus their young guys are only going to get better.
The Devils have an amazing top 6 which was reinforced with Palat, they are going to have a full year with Hamilton who was finished top 10 in Norris 2/3 past years. Also no chance they have as bad goaltending luck as they did last year (they used 7!!!!)
The Rangers have a sick team with the best goalie and their young guys (Laf, Kappo, Miller, Fox, Schneider) are only going to get better (a lot better). They also have superstar pieces
The Wild was a team I might regret putting into the finals but they have an elite goaltender who put up okay numbers on a terrible Blackhawks team and was good on the Wild. Plus Kaprizov will take a leap, and they have great depth on both forward and D

When Does It Become Fair To Question The Coach
I don't think you fire Keefe, especially after this year. He has proven time in and time out that he has been successful with this team, he took a team who had below .900 save percentage for half the season and brought them into the second seed in their division. That is pretty impressive.
Does he make some questionable decisions come playoff time? Ya for sure. But he also has made some good ones that really paid off. He took a team that has won back-to-back cups and is on the verge of a three peat to the brink of elimination and if it wasn't for a questionable call that waived a goal off Toronto could just as easily be in the finals right now. If by next year Toronto doesn't win a couple rounds then you start looking at the coach. We only have a year until Matthews can sign an extension and two more until his contract expires. We got to give him every possible reason to want to stay. Auston has had his best seasons under Keefe and getting rid of him after a record setting season is stupid.
In respect to Mitch: trading him will only make the team worse. There are just a handful of players I would trade for Mitch and it probably won't even be worth it. He has incredible chemistry with the best goal scorer in the league, he is one of the top passers in the league, can play the pk and pp and can score 30+ goals. Trading him is something the team would regret for years to come. I was all on the trade Marner trade last year, but this playoffs he's shown a major improvement and more confidence.
There is no easy fix for this team, but I do not see a world where any of the top 5 guys are traded. The only person I see any possibility is Nylander and even that could be a problem unless you are getting a big return back. What probably ends up happening is adding one or two new defensemen (trading Muzzin to NJ or LA) and getting one or two new goalies. And obviously some new additions to the bottom 6

Wee Willy Nylander
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Quillanrocks</b></div><div>Depends how good you REALLY think Holl is.
Some Toronto posters on here call him a 5/7 guy (and still want teams to give up assets to acquire him!). In that vein, Michael Stone made .750 this season; same for Brendan Smith, I believe. Just as 2 examples. I'm sure there's a veteran d-man or 2 out there looking to stay in the show who'd be happy to sign for around 1 million. Probably been around long enough to play with a lot fewer mistakes, also. And again, Seattle keeps its pick.
But hey, I hope Holl proves us all wrong. Toronto (fans) sure wanna run him out of town.</div></div>
Holl is a bottom 4 defensemen who can play meaningful minutes on the PK, he is worth a mid round pick and would help any team. He had an xgf of 57% and, despite making some mistakes here and there, is a very solid defenseman at a very reasonable price. The reason everyone is shipping him out is because our right side is full with younger players in Lili and Sandin and a vet in TJ. Holl would end up being our 6th or 7th dman. But on a team like Seattle he would fit in as 5 or 6. Also Seattle has a lot of draft picks in the upcoming drafts and don't need to draft 13 players in next years draft after drafting 12 in the draft prior (including 5 in the top 64). Eventually you need to turn those draft picks into players and Holl is a perfect bridge type player before those draft picks come into fruition

Florida Needs to Shed Cap
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>dannibalcorpse</b></div><div>-Anthony Duclair just came off a 31-goal season and is signed for 2 more years at a $3M cap hit. Not only are there probably a half-dozen guys Florida moves before they get to him, but they sure as hell aren't gonna take a pile of beans in a B-tier prospect, a complete non-prospect, and next year's 3rd for him.
-Kerfoot for a 3rd works for Vancouver (or wherever) but getting a reliable veteran RD3 at only $850K means Toronto needs to add. I can't see Vancouver being super excited to move him at that cap hit since they have some cap issues of their own.
-Holl gets a 4th or a 5th but not both, if I'm gonna nitpick.
-Mrazek doesn't make as much sense for Arizona if only because he's the opposite of their normal cap dumps. Check out who they traded for last summer - every single one of those guys they acquired, minus Anton Stralman, had a lower salary paid out than their cap hit. Stralman, FWIW, had a salary that matched his cap hit. Mrazek has a salary that actually exceeds his cap hit - Arizona would spend $8.6M in real money over the next 2 seasons for $7.6M in cap hit. I just think it's unlikely they buck their trend to get a 2nd rounder three drafts from now.
-I think you'd need a little more to get Stolarz but not much - either upgrade the prospect to someone like Abruzzese (or whoever Anaheim might be into) or upgrade the pick to a 3rd. Stolarz has developed into a solid backup on a very cheap salary so I can't see them rushing out the door to move him for scraps.</div></div>
They did take Nick Ritchie who's 3.3 mill base salary next year is almost a mill higher than his cap. I could see him getting to Arizona, might need to add a player or something but I think Toronto explores any way to get him off the books without giving a 1st or top prospect or having to buy him out. Don't underestimate Dubas

On the other hand, like schenn and Quinn Hughes played over 600 mins 5v5 last year and were Vancouvers best pair at preventing scoring chances and xGA 5v5. 2.37 xGA/60 as a pair which is better than any leafs pair who played more than 400 minutes together (Muzzin and Holl were 2.47 xGA/60 which is the leafs best).
So, Luke schenn at 850k he showed this year he can be a reliable stop gap partner for Quinn Hughes is much more valuable to Vancouver than a 30 point centre who rode percentages to a career year and will cost more than he’s worth</div></div>

It's absolutely not a fit. Van's PK also wasn't a problem once Boudreau was hired.
No team has ever had a problem hitting the salary cap floor, ever, it's not a real thing.
For a better reference point, NYI dumped Ladd's 2x$5.5 cap w/ $5 mil real money for two 2nds and a 3rd.
Mrazek's 2x$3.8 mil w/ $8.6 mil real money probably costs around that, because they're not exactly flowing with cash.
Holl is more of a bottom 2 dman, and no one trades picks for those cause there's a ton of em, especially one that is 2 mil.</div></div>
Travis Dermott netted Toronto a 3rd round pick, Kurtis MacDermid traded for a 4th, Butcher for a 5th, Hagg for a 6th, Hamonic for a 3rd. Just saying
Nick Ritchie making 2.5 for two years was traded with a conditional pick for Lybushkin

It'll cost more than a 2nd to dump Mrazek.
Kerfoot's value is actually fair, but the Canucks do not want another middle 6 winger. No idea why everyone is intent on trading him to Van and only Van, trade him elsewhere.</div></div>
I feel he can help Vancouver, You can use him as centre or winger and he can kill penalites.
Arizona is only looking for picks, before this season there is a high sample size of him being successful and Arizona needs to hit the floor
Holl can still play a bottom 4 role and is good on the PK, Toronto just has younger options to replace him
I agree Florida will ask for more, but one can dream

Kawhi-Type Trade
There has been a lot of talk about Kawhi-Type Trades. I don't like this idea, but here are the options (Players going to be UFAs in 2023)
Nate Mack - He is the obvious number one choice, but there is no chance he is available and will be re-signing with Colorado soon. But if he were to become available it would cost Marner plus a first plus Sandin plus Knies. This would be closest to a "Kawhi-type" deal. Trading for a top 5 player in the league and giving up a star who never was able to get over the hump plus a young player plus a pick
Huberdeau - He would cost a package surrounding Marner, I do not do this. Marner is both younger and better defensively. They are very similar players, elite playmakers who can put the puck in the net. Good at driving the play, huberdeau is obviously a better version of Maner but he is also 4 years older and Mitch is continuously improving each year
Pastrnak - He is part of the Bruins long term plans, but if he demanded a trade and refused to play for them, it would probably cost either Marner or Willy a first and Knies/Sandin. Neither team would want to trade within the division and Pasta is part of the Bruins long-term plan
Pacioretty: Max Pacioretty would probably cost Willy, and Vegas would have to give up something else as well. Max is a great player but has played over 70 games once over the past 5 seasons. He is turning 34 and, despite being a good fit, is not really what you want as the centrepiece in return of a young star
Patty Kane: No thank you. A player making over 10 mill, on the wrong side of 30, is a worse version of Marner, and is coming off one of the largest scandals in the NHL. I do not want that on my team. It would cost too much in both money and personnel for a player who truthfully is not worth it
Any other player you think might make a deal like this? What do you think of these options?
