Semi-Realistic Avs 2021
No need for that Virtanen deal. We shouldn’t be trying to force Bura down to the third line.

Hall 1 year 9 mil
I don’t think he’ll get $9M from a contender without serious cap gymnastics. I said “lesser team.”
I hear you on the reports that he wants to play for a true contender and may consider a short term deal. When that turns into 6 years @ 9M versus 1 year at 9M he’ll have a great chance to put his money where his mouth is.
I hope I’m wrong here but players tend to follow the term and $ unless they are resigning with their current team and take a discount to keep that group together. (Lehner signing)
History tells us the largest UFAs chase money and don’t land on contenders. Every hockey player wants to win until they realize chasing a cup could cost them tens of millions of dollars.
2019: Panarin to NYR
2018: Tavares to TOR (depending on how you viewed their contending status)
2016: Lucic to EDM and Okposo to BUF (although yikes on both)
I guess we’ll see how it shakes out.

I feel that. I think Byram will have every opportunity coming into camp to make the team. Same for Timmons. There is a difference plugging him in the SCP when he hasn’t had time to learn the Avs system, versus giving him a full training camp, preseason games etc.
He doesn’t have anything else to prove in the WHL and I think he’s hit his ceiling for what he can learn at that level.

He’ll get 9M on a long term deal by a lesser team. We’ll need to overpay for a one year deal. Way too much risk for him to take on if he gets injured. (Which he tends to do)

I like the moves you made with the forwards. I think those are all reasonable trades.
I don’t like Gustafsson blocking a Byram or Timmons.

That’s light on Hall. He’ll get at least $8M.
I think there are too many bodies coming in in this scenario.
I’m down to move on from Donskoi, but would like to keep Calvert around.
Newhook spends another year at BC. Don’t need to rush him with Kadri filling his long term spot.

Yeah I think you’ll need to give more on a one year deal.
Make Hall choose between signing a 7 year $9M with a lower tier team, or sign a one year $12M deal yo go win a cup with the Avs, increase his stock playing with Mack, and hopefully cap goes up next year and he can still get the term at higher AAV.

I don’t like Schultz and Fast taking roster spots from Kaut and Byram/Timmons. Time to graduate at least two of those guys.

Toronto wouldn’t do that trade. I don’t think you need Hall and Nylander in an off-season.
One or the other imo. We’re unnecessarily moving Bura to the third line. That’s what Washington did with him and it didn’t work.
Coyotes will be able to get more for Kuemper.

Getting over the hump
These $ signings are so off. Bura plays in the top six, had a career year and gets 2x2.5? While Jost gets 4x4? Krug is signing for 7M minimum.
Kamenev is the KHL now. Sorry, but this is a mess.

I actually like that ANA trade for Avs. I don’t know if ANA goes for it but the only real valuable piece you are giving up is BB.
I feel like you don’t need to go get Krug there though.

While I like the idea of depth and balance, the big line of Landy-Mack-Rants was clearly the best line in the NHL. I think you keep them together and hope Bura-Kadri-Donskoi/Jost gel.
Pool party isn’t a fourth liner and we have enough “upside hopefuls” in Bura, Donkey, and Jost.
If Jost breaks out finally playing with a talented player like Kadri, this team will be hard to beat. Jost and Grub are the needle movers this season.

I’m all for Rakell, but we’d be selling low on Jost. He actually played pretty well in the playoffs and lets be honest, didn’t have much talent around him.
Playing with Kadri, Donskoi, Bura should set him up better than last year to break out. If he can get to 45-50 points I’d be very happy.
I do think that Jost becomes tradable if he has a meh season. It’s really nice to have Newhook in the system now!
Mack
Newhook/Jost
Kadri
Will be the best center core in the league in 2 years.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>VezinaVarly</b></div><div>If that happens on summer 2022, Kadri is going to be UFA that summer and might not resign with Avs. Also on summer 2021 Seattle will take one good player and it might be Kamenev, Compher or Burakovsky. Agreed, that is his most likely year to spot in. That being said I don’t think he immediately comes in as the 2C. Jost is the biggest question mark on this roster. If he develops properly into a 2C it makes our lives so much easier.
