(CGY/FLA) - Tkachuk for Huberdeau, Weegar, Schwindt
All jokes aside, this trade actually makes sense from a Florida standpoint because it was highly unlikely that they could keep Huberdeau and Weegar after next season, and they receive an elite young power forward locked up on an 8 year deal to play beside Barkov for them. Giving up another 1st and solid prospect isn't the most logical move though.
Calgary of course gets Huberdeau to hopefully try to pick up where Gaudreau left off, and Weegar to solidify their top 4 D core. Plus a first round pick and solid prospect in Schwindt creates a perfect return for the flames. Now only time will tell who wins this trade in the long run once we see what's left of Huberdeau and Weegar for 23-24 for Calgary.

My First 2023 NHL Rankings (the top 16)
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>christianyog</b></div><div>BruinsFan35 Dzinger18 deto</div></div>
Great draft rankings! Another banger as always with the great insight.
I think that Kasper Halttunen, Matthew Wood, and Cam Allen would also be some noteworthy guys for this range. Yegor Zavragin and Scott Ratzlaff would be some solid goalie prospects that could go at some point in the first round as well. I'll try to work on my 1st round rankings for 2023 soon too.
And just a heads up, I changed my username from @Dzinger18 to <a href="/users/Zinger" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">@Zinger</a> for next time you tag me.

Nashville Predators signed Nino Niederreiter (2 Years / $4,000,000 AAV)
Good signing. Nashville will like Nino a lot considering the offense he provides and how he goes in the corners and battles in the dirty areas for the puck. Nino can also play on either the 2nd or 3rd line and maybe even the 1st when needed. He does well on the 2nd powerplay as well, so there's not much to dislike about this signing considering its only 2 years at 4 mil AAV.

if habs were smart
Wright wasn't the right pick. It's looking like he has some attitude/personality issues, and compare that to Slaf as such a genuine funny guy, I'd take Slaf. Also Slaf has a better mottor and higher end offensive skills on the ice opposed to Wright who mainly relies on his high hockey IQ to make the right decisions here and there. So in my opinion, Slaf has a better chance and the better potential for spouting into an elite star player for the Canadiens than Wright would've. In that case, take Slafkovksy 1st overall would be the smart pick here.

(PIT/MTL) - Matheson for Petry, Poehling
This ain't no 1st rounder for the habs, but they did clear out Petry's contract while picking up a solid d-man in Matheson plus a 4th round pick. From Pittsburgh's point of view you get a solid veteran d-man in Petry who is still a solid 2nd pair guy, and a talented young bottom 6 forward. This trade makes sense for both sides, but I like it a tad more for the penguins.

(PIT/NJD) - Marino for Smith and 2023 3rd round pick
I honestly like this trade more for Pittsburgh a lot because they acquired a 3rd rounder in such a deep draft. Marino a bit better than Smith, but I think Smith has some good potential and could be solid in Pittsburgh. Of course New Jersey gets Marino to stack up their right side, but I think that Pittsburgh wins in the long run.

Solid depth signing. MacEachern has some NHL experience, and it looks like he had a pretty solid AHL playoff campaign last season. Could be in the mix for that 13th forward spot. We'll see how he does in training camp.

Winnipeg Jets signed Elias Salomonsson (3 Years / $926,667 AAV)
Great value for the jets selecting Salomonsson, considering his upside. I thought he even had the tools to go in the early 2nd round. Salomonsson is a good defenseman, and if he can put in the work next season, Salomonsson can come close to returning to what people thought he could be a year ago.

Toronto Maple Leafs signed Calle Järnkrok (4 Years / $2,100,000 AAV)
Great AAV for Jarnkrok considering how well he played in Seattle. Not sure if I love the 4 years term, but if Jarnkrok can return to his Seattle Kraken form, this deal will look great a year from now. Plus, Jarnkrok has the ability to be a consistent 15 goal scorer which makes this a nice add at just north of 2 mil AAV.

Great pick by Buffalo. I had Kulich ranked 23 and there were many instances where he should have gotten picked before this spot in my opinion. Great all around two-way center and I think he'll do great in Buffalo.
Good for them to get him signed already.

I am a Leafs fan by the way... So please don't do this.</div></div>
I don't hate that idea if that's what we need to offer for Sandin. I'd like him a lot on the 2nd pair with Pesce. And I'm always around to create misery for the leafs.

Yeah, It's a great time to be a Hurricanes fan. High hopes for this season.
I can see why the Chychrun trade may need some more value. We still need another guy for the left side though, so we either bite the bullet and let go of next years first (which I hope we don't but we probably will eventually one way or the other), or we look for another LHD on the market.
