Krug is going to DET
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>HabsFan9</b></div><div>Why would he want to go to Detroit?</div></div>Did you check out his bio? Born: Royal Oak, Michigan. Raised in Livonia, Michigan. 3 brothers live in the area. His wife's family lives in the area. He's a Michigan State grad that complete his last 38 credits online taking classes during his first 5 NHL seasons.
Before the bubble: <div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Joe Haggerty</b></div><div>Torey Krug is comfortably living in his home state of Michigan with his in-laws, his wife, his daughter and his dog right now amidst the coronavirus outbreak (April 2020)</div></div>
He was coached by Red Wings head coach Jeff Blashill who was a coach with the Indiana Ice of the USHL at the time.
He's a power play QB that would be a position of need for the Wings whose PP ranked 29th in the league this season. In the last 2 years the Wings have lost Niklas Kronwall, Trevor Daley and Mike Green as veteran leaders. Danny DeKeyser joined the team in 2013 so even he doesn't have Stanley Cup experience that can be passed down to the young prospects (like Seider, Cholowski, McIsaac, and Lindstrom)--but Krug does. And Seider would be a perfect pairing on the 2nd pair as Krug is more offensively adapt balanced by Seider's defensive strengths.
Wings have empty roster spots for LHD and 36M and change in cap space.
....but he's also got strong Boston ties including naming his dog: Fenway. So it's possible he stays with the Bruins on a team-friendly cap hit.

Fix the Lines
I'd rather keep the top two lines together and tinker with the bottom six. Given that it is unlikely that they will bench Thompson, I'd like to see JVR-Grant-Jake and Pitlick-Thompson-NAK to make the most of those players' strengths.

Philadelphia Flyers signed Oskar Lindblom (3 Years / $3,000,000 AAV)
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>ConnorMcHellebucyk</b></div><div>It’s great that he was able to pull through this and get a good paycheck
I hate to be the pessimist but can someone explain what he’s done on the ice to earn this?
Or is it in hopes that he will grow and become a steal on this contract?</div></div>
He was leading the team in goals and playing top line minutes with Couturier when he went out. Realistically, I see him slotting with Coots and TK for a line that matches up against other top lines leaving some other guys (Giroux, Voracek, JVR, etc) to take advantage of lesser opponents.

This is fantastic for both parties. If he is able to continue playing, the Flyers get a great top 6 winger for cheap and if he isn't, the organization did the right thing and took care of one of their players.

This guy is literally 2 seasons removed from being a legit top-pairing guy and a good one, rest of the league passes and he falls to... Tampa. Because of course he does.

I believe this is the current status of that trade for Colorado - really embracing the youth movement.

- Matt Duchene (28 yo, C)
<strong>Received (signed):</strong>
- Bowen Byram (18 yo, LHD)
- Sam Girard (21 yo, LHD)
- Vladislav Kamenev (22 yo, C)

Even better. 6 years of being fair/underpaid and maybe one year of being *slightly* overpaid. Smart use of current cap space.

I am going to bet that there are very achievable performance bonuses (10 goals, 40 GP, etc.) built into this. he should have got 2x2.75 or similar to Kapanen/Johnsson/Kerfoot.
By using the bonuses they can have a low AAV this year, wait for Melker/Dillon/Dell to fall off the books, and deal with the bonus overages next year, as it doesn't look like any young studs are coming too soon

I don't know Colorado gets a 30 goal scorer for 3 more years and Toronto gets 1 season of Barrie at half price right before he becomes a UFA. Toronto has only 1 defenseman signed for the 2020-21 season and they still need to sign Cici, Marner and Kerfoot.

Carolina Hurricanes signed Sebastian Aho (5 Years / $8,460,250 AAV)
I think I understand the strategy from this “low ball” offer sheet. Lots of factors at play. One of the first things I was questioning was “why not give an extra $100k on the AAV and make the compensation 2 1st’s + 2nd + 3rd?” Literally no one will question that it would be overpaying for some like Aho, and it would make all the more enticing to let Aho go. So why just under $8.5mil???
This is just MTL <strong>literally</strong> trying to take advantage of <strong>what they believe </strong> is an Owner (Dundon) who doesn’t have the stones to pay 1 player a large chunk of the teams revenue of an entire year. Because if CAR matches this deal, this almost guarantees for the next two seasons they will lose $$$ and finish in the negative of their yearly earnings. <strong>Additionally</strong> , with a lockout looming, and the possibility of getting zero revenue next year. CAR will still have to pay almost $10mil, to 1 player. That’s big.
So if the Habs believe that actual “up front “ cash is enough to steal Aho from CAR (and I’m assuming that this is really their current belief, cuz why even bother then?), why give an extra 1st?
Historically speaking though... PHI tried this exact strategy on NSH with the Weber offer sheet, and it didn’t work.
