<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>NorthernLeafsFan05</b></div><div>Because Cutter will be the perfect compliment to their forward group and betters fits the Carlsson timeline. Obviously there's a possibility Cutter doesn't piece it together at the NHL level, but let's be honest, he's going to be great. Drysdales injury scares and the Ducks abundance of quality defense prospects (Mintyukov, Zellweger, LaCombe, Helleson, Luneau, Dioncio) makes it clear why they felt like they could move on from Jamie. Like I said, I think Drysdale will be great in Philly, I absolutely love the fit between those two teams, but the Ducks did very well here.</div></div>

You say did very well but they overpaid for an unproven player. You say "Let's be honest, he's going to be great", and ya know for all intents and purposes yeah, he probably will be good but there's a chance he isn't good. Or can't figure it out. Or becomes Zegras part 2 like what you think he's having a good third year? Like he's just a complete unknown at the next level. You seem to think he's guaranteed to be great but there is no guarantee of that. He is much more of an unknown than Drysdale is.

Drysdale, right this exact second, makes Philly a much better team than a guy who was being...cantankerous....about playing for them. They also got an extra pick, most likely in the 30s, where it's pretty clear you can still find legit NHL players. In fact, most of those Ducks prospects you mentioned were 2nd rd picks.

Minty is good but he's a player now he ain't getting sent down. He was #10 in his draft year. LaCombe might be better later but as of right now he plays a lot and is -20 something so he's more like a prospect getting NHL time. He was a guy picked in the 30s. The rest are not even close to being anything other than potentially NHL caliber D guys. But Luneau and Zellweger were also 2nd rd picks in the 30s.

Drysdale has top 4 potential and is already on a solid deal. I get where you're coming from, the future. This deal in the long run will of course come down to how each players career unfolds.

If Cutter turns out to be a stellar player for the Ducks so be it, but as it stands right now, the Ducks overpaid for an unproven prospect. If anybody cleaned up its Philly to get the extra draft pick most likely somewhere in the 30s.

This is really two separate trades that were combined into one so Philadelphia wouldn’t have to burn one of their salary retention slots.

The first trade is Provorov from Philadelphia to Columbus with $2M retained for a 1st and a 2nd. This seems like fair value for Provorov given that he’s still pretty young and has two years left on his contract, but is overpaid at $6.75M cap hit. It makes sense for Philadelphia if they’ve decided to rebuild or even if they’ve just decided to move on from him. I don’t think Columbus wants to rebuild after spending all that money on Gaudreau, so it’s a fair price for a player who probably makes them better.

The other trade is pretty much a straight cap dump – LA giving Walker, a prospect and a 2nd to Philly for two minor leaguers to dump $3M of Petersen’s cap hit. (LA could have retained on Petersen instead of Provorov – it makes no difference to them because both players have 2 years left on their contracts – so this didn’t need to be part of a 3-way trade.) LA can do better things with that cap hit, but the price seems a little high given that he was in the minors, which reduces what they save to less than $2M. They save more by including Walker, but I don’t think he’s overpaid enough to call him a dump, and whether he actually saves them anything will depend on how they replace him. The fact that Philadelphia is taking a cap dump looks like a rebuild move, but Walker will play for them (though he could be flipped at the deadline if they don’t extend him, possibly for a 3rd), and their scouts may think that Petersen still has a chance to regain some of his old form with a change of scenery.

It'll be interesting to see what these teams do next. Is this the start of a housecleaning in Philadelphia? Will Columbus make more short-term additions? How will LA spend their cap space?

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Sparkyboi_GoCanes</b></div><div>Initial thoughts are: Great first trade for Briere, CBJ meh, and LAK gets a little cap space.

For Philly I love the deal, they get a cap dump in Petersen but they're rebuilding so it's whatever. I like Sean Walker, I think he's a solid cheap top 4 D that they can easily flip, Grans could turn into something (Idk much about him personally), and a 1st rounder in a absolutely stacked draft. And two 2nd's is also just an amazing bonus to go along with this, would be even better if they were in the 2023 draft.

For CBJ, I don't really get the point. They do get Provorov retained for a 4.725 cap hit (which is a great contract), but for a likely higher 1st and a 2nd rounder I wouldn't do it. Hell, even Sean Walker isn't far off from Provorov's skill either so just weird.

For LAK, I simply don't like it. They do get some valuable cap space, but for everything they gave up to do so is just absurd. They retained 2 mil on Provorov, and of <strong>course dumped Petersen's awful contract but only for 3 mil (from retainment)</strong>. I get that this gives them some extra money to play with (and also to extend Gavrikov), but not one of Blake's best trades.

Curious to see where Hart goes too......hopefully Briere doesn't follow up this trade with a terrible one.</div></div>

It's actually not even $3M. Peterson was in the AHL with a cap hit of $3.85M...$1.15M less. So LAK are really only gaining ~$1.8M in cap space if we're just talking about Peterson and the retention.
