The Rangers dont need a 2C, but you dont turn it down when its served up on a silver platter. Trocheck was not brought in to be a 2C, but hes turned into our best C. What he's signed for is an absolute steal. Putting Mittelstadt in the fold gives us ridiculous C depth, to the point that having him makes our 3rd line as good as most 2nd lines.

Ny Rangers FAKE
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>OldSenileGuy</b></div><div>In a vacuum, I like it. It fits my “any Kakko trade must bring back a good young player” rule and I like Tolvanen
However, I wouldn’t be able to stop thinking that the rangers could have had him for free last year and almost certainly gone further in the playoffs and chose not to and it would really piss me off
See also: why even though I’d love having Buch back, I kinda don’t want it to happen</div></div>
31 GMs screwed the pooch on Tolvanen. 31 GMs didnt want to give Sprong a measly 2m. The Rangers chose to keep Goodrow and let Vatrano walk. Unfortunately we couldnt afford to resign Buch, that was the problem, which again, I think goes back to the Goodrow signing.

Unfortunately for you and many other Rangers fans, you cant use Kakko's age and draft position as leverage in a trade. Kakko has done nothing of any significance in 5 years. Rangers have a 2-3 year window to get something done. To continue to be delusional about the realistic value of Kakko is only going to hurt the Rangers. I would prefer not to trade him, but this team is real damn close.

Or how about just playing guys in the position theyre supposed to play. Theres a reason why its incredibly rare for defensemen to play their offside, unlike forwards.

Because its SJ, the 2026 1st round draft pick isn't really a video game trade. This is the year Gavin McKenna will be eligible for the draft. Given SJ's situation, an unprotected 1st puts you in a pretty solid lottery position.

Youre not going to find one, especially one that will help us right now that a GM would be willing to part with peacefully. For example, this kid Tolvanen on the Kraken would be an awesome pickup for us. However theres no way Ron Francis trades him for Kakko. Would you trade Kakko for Sprong? Or Kakko for Evangelista?

Gabe Perreault does not help them win now. He wont play for them this year, and he will likely not play for the Rangers next year. However, if you think that an unprotected 1st from SJ in 2026 is not a good idea, then you're not in tune with the prospects out there.

And then when we don’t win and attempt a mini rebuild, we’ll question where we went wrong all over again like we did last decade.</div></div>
What team has a 23-27 year old that they're willing to trade? Who also happens to come with an extra year on his contract...

The Rangers would not do this, nor would the Rangers trade Schneider. First off the retention would have to be 50% on Henrique. Secondly... You want Schneider? Then you send Gudas to NY, 50% retained on the rest of his contract and maybe we will think about it.

It is time to split up Mika and Kreider
I agree that we need to split up Mika and Kreider, however I dont do it at the detriment of the only line that is actually producing. There have been multiple instances of Panarin playing with Kreider and Mika where absolutely nothing occurred. Furthermore, the way the team is currently constructed, there is no center to play with Kreider. Splitting them up with the current roster feels more like a punishment to Kreider than something that is inspirational.

If hes worth less than 8m obviously Im all over it too. However, give me an all around player who will play 75+ games a year and provide around 35-40 points a year.
Its one of those moves that the fanbase will be incredibly sour about, but you cant pay Lindy that much to play maybe 60 games. Its the same reason the Rangers had to make the tough decision to trade Callahan.

This right here is why the Buch cost is high. You think the additional year is negative? Its a massive plus for the Blues. Its why the Blues have no reason to trade him. If the Blues dont get the offer they want, they can trade him next year.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>joez83</b></div><div>His QO is 2.4 and has arbitration rights. And we wouldn't sign him for one year because then he's a UFA. Remember he signed his first contract at 18. Which is why we did not sign him to a 3 year deal he would be a ufa. Laf's next contract will be big. Lindy is going to get 5.5 - 6 mil. Schneider is at the 2X2. So Kakko is the odd man out as you won't have money to sign him for an extension because of his unknown outlook.
Kakko is valuable now as far as trade who knows what next year will bring.</div></div>
If Lindy wants 6m, then he should to test the free agent market. If Lindy wants 6m, then Id rather pay 2m more for Hanifin (8m) because I dont think Lindy is worth that. I love his heart, but he never has and never will play 82 games. His style of play will not age well.
Kakko's value is not high, not as high as Rangers want it to be. The only leverage that they have is his age, and that doesnt mean much. What matters is whats on paper, and there isnt much there either.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>joez83</b></div><div>That fourth line and 3rd line isn't winning anything imo you also have to think about the future. What's Kakkos next contract look like ? Then add Lindy,Lafs, Schenieders we won't have money for all these players. It would be best to trade Kakko now with some value. I think if that trade is offered to the Blues they do it because it gives them cap relief which they need for years to come. It helps the Rangers as it bridges Buch to Otthman and Perrault.</div></div>
With the expectation that they buyout Goodrow at the end of the year, they have far far more salary cap freedom than you think next year.
As far as Kakko's next contract. His QO is 2.31m, which I would be happy to give him for 1 year. Schneider, Id top out at 2x2. Lindgren, 4.5x5. Quick 1x1. Call up Othmann. Youve got over 10m in cap space to find a 3C/4C and a 3LD. More than enough to pull that off.
