<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Hockey44</b></div><div>Due to the fact that making an armchair gm team rn is kind of pointless, I'll be posting discussion forums similar to my last post. This forum is about the hawks prospect and drafting. For this post, I strongly recommend watching the hawks training camp video

1. Was Dach the right choice at #3 (strongly recommend watching the hawks preseason camp before making a decision)

2. Who was the hawks best steal of this year's draft?

3. What pick will the hawks have in the 2020 draft and who/ what position will they draft?

4. Is Brandon Hagel the real deal?
-He dominated in the camps this summer and was arguably the second-best player after Boqvist during camp.

5. Looking at the goalie situation, the Hawks brought in a bunch of undrafted/unsigned goalies from across the world for training camp. Some had very good seasons. Do you think any of the goalies could become the real deal?

6. Who will be the biggest impact player for Rockford this year?

7. Do the Hawks have any hidden gems in the system? If so who?

8. What does the hawks organization do differently that makes them so effective at developing players?

9. What hawks prospect are you most excited to see play this year? (Any league i.e WHL, AHL, NHL, etc)</div></div>

I numbered them to make it easier to jump around, and to respond:

1) Depends what they do to help develop him, a lot of the drafted players have high ceilings but lack current skill (i.e. Nylander, Saarela)
2) Alex Vlasic, at least so far. I can see him being the best defensive defenceman the 'Hawks have come Expansion Draft Time
3) Let's hope 31st, except I suspect they would've traded it if that's the case. I'm going to say early 20's and they're going to draft someone with potential, hopefully a Right Winger
4) Time will tell, lot of guys dominate in things like this and struggle playing with the best of the best (Sikura)
5) They need to give a couple a shot, I really like Gravel and Lankinen though, but the 'Hawks are scary good at finding goalies, let's hope they hide their secrets for awhile.
6) Versteeg, he's going to teach Dach how to use his body, and teach all those guys how to score.
7) Kurashev and Kubalik
8) They keep their AHL and NHL playing similar systems, and worry more about how a player could play, and not how their currently playing (Strome and Nylander)
9) Mitchell being one of the best NCAA players

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>ChiHawk</b></div><div>Not happening. Each line has to have a forward willing to play defense and that 2nd line doesn't; they will score a lot but give up a lot. For that reason, as several beat writers have pointed out, Shaw is a real possibility on the 2nd line.

Top line isn't going to consist of 2 rookie wingers...that's just bad management. Nylander also hasn't shown squat. The guy is going to be in the AHL unless he breaks out at training camp or the preseason but so far has shown nothing to indicate he's a top line winger...or 2nd line winger or should be in a NHL lineup. It's foolish to think that will change until proven so.

Kubalik is intriguing and could be lighting in a bottle but again, giving him top line minutes? I get he had a breakout tournament at the Worlds but that's not the NHL and he's never played on NA ice and of course in the NHL...give him 3rd line minutes and see how he does. I think he's going to be a better version of Kahun and because of that may very well end up being on the 1st line.

More likely lines;

Saad (Perlini/Sikura) - Toews - Kane
Cat - Strome - Shaw
Kubalik - Kampf - Perlini/Sikura (Saad)
Smith - Carpenter - Caggs

Everything I'm reading from the beat writers say Kampf will get the 3C if Dach doesn't make it and most think he won't.</div></div>

It's nice to finally have some flexibility again. It's already been announced that Kane will spend a lot of his time (at least at first) with Toews on the first line, with the left-winger open and possibly interchangable, although the stats don't like with Caggs playing there.

It 's just painful and hard to swallow having a third line that costs $10 million when the second line only costs under $3 million.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>HatterTParty</b></div><div>I have always taken pride in respecting people’s opinions. I especially do this when debating a person with a complete opposite opinion.

Having said that, I will ask you the same thing that no one has been able to do for me yet: sell me on Dach. You mentioned in your statement that the hawks didn’t need more scoring or defense, but needed to replace hossa. So where does Dach fit into that logic? He isnt the skater hossa was at his best, all he is is scoring potential (albeit ill be shocked if he ever gets over 70 points), and it’s been established his defensive game has more holes than his inability to use his size to a premium. At least turcotte played two way hockey, had speed, and could score like crazy. Dach’s only selling point is a big body (that he can’t use) and he’s more developed at present (which is gonna be hilarious if they think he’s ready for the nhl).

Like I said, I very much respect your opinion. And I really do want people to sell me on Dach, cuz it hasn’t happened yet. The problem I have is that everything going into this off-season seemed to have a direction. Then maatta happened and everything (save for the de Haan trade) started coming off the rails. I have no idea what this team is anymore and it worries me as a fan. I really hope Dach is not the future 1C because he doesn’t not look even close to one, even potential wise. But hey, I’d love to be wrong. I’m still backing a seabs plus Dach trade to offload seabs’ contract.</div></div>

My hope for Dach is similar to Strome, he has raw athleticism and potential. Bryam and Turcotte are better players now, but Dach definitely has the highest ceiling. For me, I just need to see that Dach is at minimum a 12th pick and I'm okay (because anything higher is technically a win). deHaan was a great trade, Anismov that just happened was a necesssary and average trade. Which really leaves Maatta, who we traded an int'l signed guy for. Then Lehner who is a #1 goalie... I don't see why everyone thinks this has been an awful off-season.
