Rantanen week to week
Why is everybody panicking? Week-to-week! Holy crap. He'll be back in 1-2 max. And then what?
These prospects you've listed in the trade and picks won't get Hall. Even if they did, I don't think it's worth mortaging some future assests for a short-term gain, especially with the Avs high-end talent coming up and will required star dollars as well. Build from within and they'll succeed. I'm glad Panarin chose NYR. The Avs did not need that.

Hence the curious case, his spot right and he plays the best at is where the most competition in the org is. Wonder how it all shakes out</div></div>
I feel like I've seen you say something along the lines of "proven talent over potential every day" before... Jost is currently in between proven talent and potential right now I'd say. I would argue that any of the Avs center prospects are considered cloudy, more so than Jost because they are just that, prospects.
Long term, I believe the only way Jost gets traded is if this off-season, his agent tried to secure him to a long term deal. Unless he breaks 40-50 pts then maybe it would be something to consider. Hopefully Jost realizes there's potential for him to be burried in the depth charts if he doesn't progress any further. Time will tell.

The Curious Case of Tyson Jost
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>coga16</b></div><div>Right now, no, but this is long term thinking. Bowers almost made the team out of camp, and to be honest out played Jost during Pre Season. Bednar loves Bowers and him being groomed to be a PK C is what would win out in the end.
When you have Newhook who will probably be 1 and done in the NCAA, the long jam of natural Cs to play on the 3rd line is starting to get long</div></div>
Jost tore it up in junior and college, hence why he was rushed onto the Avs roster. Hasn't lived up to that potential yet. He is definitely playing great now as 3C, which alleviates a lot of the pressure he's had. The Avs wouldn't have needed to fetch Kadri if Jost's potential had been reached right?
Bowers is pointless and a -3 in 5 games so far with the Eagles. Not very impressive. I don't agree that the Avs should use Jost as trade bait for an "all-in" trade at the deadline. They are already "all in" in my opinion. Let Bowers play a full season in the AHL, Newhook should take 2 years in college. There's no rush anymore. Kadri has 3 years left on his deal. I don't expect that to be renewed, especially with the "log-jam". Jost should get a 2-3 year bridge deal after this season, based on his performance obviously.
I'm surprised to not have seen any comments from you on my 2 recent AGM's though. Probably a good thing though right?? haha

MacKinnon is elite so is his 2 wingers. If in the Avs I would not sign any big name free agents and just sign role players.</div></div>
One thing to consider is Mackinnon and Crosby are similar in the fact they arent about the money and just want to win. He'll want more than Rantanen of course but I don't think by too much. I might be dreaming though. Time will tell.
Definitely agree to no signing big free agents. They never pan out. Always too expensive for too long and end up regretting them and have to trade away with assests or buy out. We have our big guys already. Role players are all that is required.

On the topic of people coming to camp and making it a hard decision. Jets are dealing with the same issue right now with heinola. I guess if they didn’t have a completely wrecked blue line he’d probably be in Finland but still lol. I hope they send him back and it would probably be best for byram to get another year in the W. he just dominates there. Might be better to put in him the AHL for the 2020-2021 season.</div></div>
Heinola, based on his stats, seems to be holding up pretty well. That's a good sign. A future Sam Girard for the Jets perhaps?
I don't think Bryam can go to AHL next season though, either NHL or back to Junior 1 more year. Or did you mean for the 2021-2022 season?

Same here. Especially if (when) he's going to want a similar cap hit percentage to all the big guns (13+%). I don't even know what the cap is projected to be after the expansion. But, Johnson, Donskoi and Compher's contracts are all up at that time as well so there's your 13.4M right there haha.

I don’t think it’s a bad idea for COL to wait till he’s 20 I just see him getting to camp next year and making his mark and earning a spot. He’s gonna put up 80 pts this year in the WHL.</div></div>
I see, thanks for the explanation.
Ultimately it's up the Avs to decide what to do right? I do agree he'll dominate this year in WHL and him showing up at camp next summer and making that decision difficult for the coaches is a great problem to have so we shall see.
Let me know what you think of 2021-2022 season I just made. I did not take the Seattle draft into account at the time since I forgot lol.

Not that I don't think HE will be ready, I just don't thinks the AVS will be ready for him yet. Use Cole's final year to their advantage instead of clogging up the blue line any more than it already kind of is. I know Byram has his heart set on being NHL ready, but I think it's too bad he couldn't have taken the Makar route and go to NCAA (I honestly don't know how that all works). But I feel it will be most beneficial for Bryam and the Avs to wait until he's 20 to get bigger, stronger and polish his game off some more.
I'm making a 2021-2022 season right now with him in it. Stay tuned!

Kamenev has the skill to be NHL-ready but does not have the durability yet. I believe he will play very sheltered minutes and be a healthy scratch a lot. Since the Avs have lots of cap space, they can carry him as a 13th forward and slot him into the lineup in games that aren't "key" or when Bellemare needs a rest since he's 34 lol.

Have you seen what happened to the Oilers by rushing their young talent? Most have busted and also poor asset management. Joe addressed some areas of weakness while strengthening depth. Bowers, O'Connor, Kaut (as you mentionned) will likely get their shots via injuries sustained by the Avs' current roster. You don't win championships with unproven rookies getting minimal ice-time on the 4th line. Their confidence will be lost. They are much better off staying in the AHL playing maximum minutes until our "expensive" 4th line's contracts are up and make room for these rookies to grow and hopefully take their place, or even higher up the lineup. Nieto-Bellemare-Calvert is as close to a perfect 4th line you could want.

Avs NHL AHL depth look
Signing Nichushkin is a contingency depth signing in case Rantanen can't be signed by training camp and/or the start of the season. This can comfortably push guys like Compher/Burakovsky/Donskoi/Jost up the line while maintaining a roster with NHL experienced players. Just like Joe said, it will create competition at training camp. Also, it's only for 1 year, allowing guys like Kaut, Bowers etc to develop with full minutes in the AHL. They aren't ready to make the NHL lineup yet. They'll do better with full time minutes in the AHL than 4th line minutes in the NHL. Nichushkin's point totals aren't great, but he's big and if anything can provide 4th line grit and help on penalty kiling.

He's shown steady improvements in basically every aspect of his game. He's your ideal 2-way defender. Keep in mind the Cap rises each year, making his cap hit percentage that much lower in the coming years and with Seattle coming, the cap I hear should rise nicely. 5 million AAV for a very responsible (only 6PIMs in each of the last 2 seasons) defenseman who not only DEFENDS but helps contribute offensively is fantastic.

I figured that was the reason. He did however play 10 NHL Playoff games straight out of college putting up 6 pts at a +3 rating. Small sample size I know but if you watched him play like I did, he'd defintely be worth being on an all-ELC team. Just in-case you didn't know!
