A fair package wouldn’t get Dobson. There has to be incentive for the isles to trade him

Their best centermen currently under contract are Pavel Zacha and Charlie Coyle.
And they don't have a lot of assets or cap space to make changes.
They very well might.

Well I think the Detroit pick is very likely top 20 so they’ll keep that. I think Boston is 50/50 to make the playoffs depending what happens to their centre core but even if they barely make it , they won’t win 2 rounds so that pick will still be top 20

After seeing the most uninspiring first round loss how do you decide to run it back for a f*cking decade. I hate him, he never should’ve been resigned. F*ck him and f*ck the ownership for believing in him

Don't disagree with your position one bit. But at the start of a rebuild Hawks shouldn't be overpaying to get these type of guys either since neither would be part of the long term plan. And Hawks probably don't need both Boeser and Garland anyway.

That's the problem with trading for upcoming UFAs (and PLD is one also, is the GM feels obligated to resign the player at any cost to justify the trade.

Please just stop with these terrible "lets fleece Vancouver trade proposals". You don't trade down in a top heavy draft to get out of a good player on a fine contract. If you're taking bad players then sure. And why wouldn't Chicago take bad contracts to get higher picks? You should. It's called weaponizing cap space. These proposals are just let me see if I can get everything I want for next to nothing.

It does if it drops the cost to dump him from a 2nd to a 4th or 5th, and saves them cap space over a buyout both this year and next.

Didn’t know points were the only way to evaluate a bottom 6 forward. He’s one of their best two way forwards and can actually transition the puck which is one of the isles weaknesses

Fasching is significantly better than Bailey. If any forward should be scratched it’s clutterbuck.

The reason why they can’t hit is because they are too slow to pucks. If they hit the canes players after the puck is gone that’s a penalty

They can’t keep up with the canes. They play too fast , the 4th line spent most of their ice scrambling in the Dzone .

To be fair, every team does that. Maybe some over pays on some of those trades but ever competitive team trades picks to try to add. How many Tampa picks are going to turn out I wonder? They will get the same scrutiny in a few years when they aren't as competitive and the players with their selections, or right after, are looking good.

A decade of mid
-I don't see Bunting taking what's likely his one swing at free agency and signing 3x$3M. Similarly, I think Pierre Engvall has played well enough to earn a raise in UFA instead of re-signing at the exact same AAV.
-Since Bunting likely won't sign for $3M, you can just use that money to buy out Josh Bailey and keep Salo & the 5th (arguable if Chicago even takes that deal) for other potential upgrades.
-I get the logic behind Cal to Nashville but I think it's just as likely Lou rides it out with him on the 4th line for one last year before he & Matt Martin likely hang it up.

Resign Cat for 2 years
It’s either he’s willing to sign long term, or he’s getting traded. He’s not signing a two year deal when he could take $9m and then get big term and dollars in free agency

That whole trade isn't worth it to me for other reasons, but Montembeault isn't worth anything near a 1st.
Full credit to him for playing as well as can be expected in a tough situation, he has definitely shown some improvement.
Not enough to sell me on his long term viability as a starter however.
