This trade also goes to show, we as fans, have no fukcin clue what teams will trade a player for.
My apologies to <a href="/users/MRDINKIEE" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">@MRDINKIEE</a> all of your wild and crazy trade ideas have been accepted

Tkachuk trade is probably right on point. Kerfoot gets you a 3rd max, MAYBE a 3rd and a 7th

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>GenXHockey</b></div><div>Excellent defensively. Slow but hard working. Certainly soft.</div></div>
He's not very good defensively, not terrible but not very good and the main reason is, he doesn't have the speed to play a 2 way game. He's great in the offensive zone though, but he needs to be sheltered with a defensive winger on his line. Obviously Kampf and Kerfoot provide that coverage and let's Strome not get too deep into the D zone. The problem is, Strome needs a scorer to play with or it's a waste to bring him in.

Takeaways from press conference
(1) Willing to move on from Sandin in an offer sheet
He knows an offer sheet is inevitable and cant match
(2) Believes Mrazek will have a bounce back season and is betting on him (he's staying)
No real GM wants him at any price and does not want to do a buyout
(3) Believes his players have trade value
yes they do but not as much as Leaf AGM's think
(4) Won't make any enticing signings
No cap space since he overspent
(5) Wants his ELCs and prospects to take a huge step
Has little choice

Sandin offersheet
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>JaredOfLondon</b></div><div>Or, like all kids who arnt guaranteed an nhl roster spot he wanted to go back to school. Its literally what happens 99.9999% of the time. If the leafs thought he wasnt going to sign at all they'd have traded him at peak value at the deadline, and theyd know.
And no, the longer a player is in a place the more likely they are to stay, 8 years wont be enough beche built his life in Toronto, again, like 99.999999% of players do. Him leaving in free agency is incredibly unlikely and just because it's your opinion doesnt make it any more likely. He's already in the biggest hockey market, with the biggest endorsements and the biggest money and the biggest fanbase. ce
Hes not leaving unless hes traded</div></div>
Umm. I'm always amazed that fans are so gleeful when a UFA signs in their team/their city....they are just ecstatic cause the player picked US. But when one of their own players leaves via UFA, even the thought of it.....well it just can't happen. I don't know if Matthews can get the biggest endorsement money as a Leaf. Being in the big US market like LA and being successful there he could get more.
Has Matthews build this life in Toronto? Well maybe from September to May, just like so many working guy whose jobs are in one place but have the time and money to put down roots in another destination during his "vacation"

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>JaredOfLondon</b></div><div>Wow, no one must ever draft guys out of college because they walk all the time right?
This is pure doom fantasy and not remotely grounded in reality</div></div>
No it doesn't happen all the time but it does happen. Leafs apparently offered Knies a contract and maybe the opportunity to burn off a year of ELC last spring. Sure looks like a guy would is exploring being a a college UFA.
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>JaredOfLondon</b></div><div>Matthews has stated repeatedly that he loves Toronto and wants to be a leaf long term, but sure thing</div></div>
Players very, very, very rarely criticize their team or city especially when they have years left on their contract. I'm sure Matthews likes maybe even loves the Leafs etc. But again it my opinion, that eight years of a Leafs will be enough for him, and he is going to explore being a UFA....and especially for a big US market team. As a result I think he will be LA King.
Why is my opinion of Matthews and Knies so wrong and so gut wrenching hurtful for Leaf fans?

He now has finished two years of college and committed for the third year. Next spring he has the big decision whether to sign for a contract that might be pay 80,000 as Marlie or finish school and have the choice of what NHL team he wants to join.
We'll see. But that is my opinion that Matthews and Knies will never sign another contract with the Leafs.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Goal_Dancers</b></div><div>Sandin definitely signs that offer, and the Leafs likely let him walk at that price (good luck qualifying him next year). As for the Mrazek deal, there is a 0% chance Toronto moves Knies to get out from under that deal. They wouldn't even move him for Fleury at the deadline</div></div>
Just my opinion. Knies turned down the Leafs contract offer last spring. IMO he is going the college graduate free agent route. My guess is that he joins he Arizona buddy Austen Matthews in LA in summer of 2024. I don't believe Sandin is eligible to be offer sheeted . He hasn't played the 80 games required in the NHL in the past two seasons.

It's with that kind of money that you steal him from TOR, and possibly sign him at a lower price at the end of the season like the Hurricanes did with Kotkaniemi.

Based on Kevin Woodley's thoughts, Canucks fans feel quite meh about Curtis Sanford as a goalie development coach. We take a lot of value from Kevin's opinions because he bases a lot of his opinions on things he has learned from Ian Clark (who the entire league agrees is one of, if not, the best goalie coaches in the history of the NHL).

Yeah, i saw that. It's also tough to watch. He gave up on his team. Thought being down 5-0 was an L for the game and decided that not getting hurt for future games was more important that effort. Nothing's lost on me. I'd still sit him for 1 period, but you need him right now. You need the other teammates to call him out. Then bench him 1 period and hopefully he hustles the rest of the series.
It's still 2-2 and 2 more games in TOR.
