Overplay for Murray.
The Pens play with much more structure than the Leafs, still he had a save percentage of below .900
The Nylander trade is bad too. Those picks will not be high. You would have to throw in at least Bouchard or Broberg to even consider a trade.
And the worst idea is the signing of Pietrangelo. 9.5 for a D that is soon 31 for 7 years?
The Leafs cannot afford him and ask the Sharks how fun it is to play good old Ds a lot of money

leafs was domi's fav team and he'd love to continue his father's legacy.
max had a bust of a year and habs already has their center core locked with suzuki, poehling, kotkanemi
hes not getting more than 4 million on a bridge deal. 4 million on waivers compensation is 2nd round max. i think habs would take that if given opportunity. not the best but its a writeoff and domi as a trade piece isn't going to get much more than that anyhow.</div></div>
Habs have a centre core for the future, but Domi is a better winger and they don't want to give up control of an RFA so easily, especially when it's affordable even as a longer term deal. Habs never trade Domi for a 2nd on the market. Montreal will also not be planning to stack draft picks for 2021 and are going to continue to push for playoffs and letting Domi go for essentially nothing would be yet another reason to fire Bergevin.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>basicallyyakupov</b></div><div>yeah this makes sense and could def play out this way. i dont think any team will see domi worth a 1st + xx though. His role is sitting at a 3c comfortably for 2020-2021 season and $5mill+ aav is a bit high for a top9 player. but what you say does make sense, if that is the case... leafs dont pick up domi and keep kerfoot or explore other options.</div></div>
Domi's role isn't as a 3rd line Center in MTL... and it's never been that either, nor will it be. Domi is a top 6 offensive player, not much of a debate there, that's the only roles he's ever played in the NHL. Although Domi is physical, he's not really a two way player. Not that he's bad at defense, but apart from looking for a big hit here and there. You won't see him on a PK, or taking key defensive zone faceoffs. Only future Domi has in MTL is on the wing. He's a far better Center, but there's no room, so that's why you see him so much for trade on this site.

Habs would match that in a heartbeat, but Domi never signs that, not in a million years.

Domi on another bridge deal, at minimum, would take $5.5mil aav imo, and that's being on the cheaper side of offers. Domi has arbitration rights this time around , and although he had an "off year" (I would say not properly utilised compared to the previous season) Domi still has a 72 point season under his belt <strong>at Center</strong>. So just following RFA compensation values, $5.5 aav (being cheap) gets you a 1st + 3rd. If you're signing him long term, 100% we are talking $6.5mil+ aav, which for RFA compensation would be a 1st + 2nd + 3rd.
I think a fair evaluation of Domi's value falls in between both RFA compensations. A 1st rd pick (I'd say mid to late 1st) and depending on the position of the 1st an additional pick (2nd or 3rd), or you can replace the picks with a prospect of equal value.

You’re 2.6 mil over the cap with only 21 guys. No way Domi signs that deal, you’re putting a lot of value in hometown discount, how well did that work out in the Marner negotiations? Carolina is not giving 13OA for Kappy.
