i wonder if he wanted more than the Avs could do, or if Byram's bottom number is going to be a bit scarier than we anticipated.
Or, more optimistically, the Avs have their eyes set on JTC, ERod, or another trade.

Or see what EDM wants for Yamamoto since they need to shed cap.</div></div>
One of my biggest wishes is for the Avs to keep Newhook at 3C, and give him some consistent linemates that can finish. I agree though teams are going to be looking to move cap so somebody is going to be available

Now in 2026 hopefully that second rounder is in the 60's and I know it's a trade asset for down the road but the avs are in a winning position this year, who know where they will be after mikko needs a new deal</div></div>
I’m all in on Drouin. Prove it deal, guy had multiple 50+ pt seasons obviously needs a change of scenery not all that different from Arvidsson who had 2 20pt seasons in NSH before moving to the Kings.

And now you understand deadline deals at a premium and off season deals where teams are looking to move salary as much as anything. So yeah pass on taking a winger at over $4M and trading an asset.

4 years would lead Byram straight ro FA, which would’t be ideal. I would hope it to be a bridge 2-3 years or 6+ years.

I don't see that Frankie trade as realistic. No way he brings in three picks. Way too much for Lindholm and Olofsson deals for two players who could easily walk after this season (noting that you indicated Lindholm would confirm interest in an extension).

DNVR Roast This
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>bcooke</b></div><div>I think if someone offers a Georgiev type package for Franky we would have to atleast consider it. The new trend around the league seems to be not letting guys walk for nothing. I don't see us extending Francouz next summer due to other needs under the cap. So getting a couple lotto tickets to use on high skill guys that drop this year or future year assets to use at the deadline for a goalie that Georgiev has made expendable is good asset management.
If I were CGY, I would want to keep Lindholm as well. Still no news on if he wants to extend though. And if he decides he isn't extending in CGY, they will move him before the draft. Not sure if this package is enough, but would start here and let CGY pick and choose from the prospect pool if needed.
JJ for 1 year is probably safer than OEL. But if OEL's foot is back to 100%, he has potential to play above that contract. If he is injured this year, we still have Hunt to come up and play reliable 3rd pair minutes.</div></div>
Agreed, if an offer like that for Frankie is available you may have to consider it, although I think the Avs could probably wait until the season (IE: wait until there's an early season ending injury) and do even better. Just puts the Avs at its riskiest G situation since Grubauer was the starter. Maybe there's a decent backup on the trade block.
I remain pessimistic about OEL but the reasoning of course is sound

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>bcooke</b></div><div>There are teams that can take the contract. Avs just aren't one of them. This year isn't the issue for the Avs. They can easily take his 6M this year and still solve 2C. Its what happens in '24-'25 when Landy's $7M is back on the books that you can't keep Landy, Hall and a 2C on the roster without moving other key pieces.</div></div>
eh, every time I attempt an ACGM with Hall at $6mil, after a cheaper 2C option, you're left with basically $9mil to sign RFAs and UFAs. After RFAs, even bare minimum, it's ~$3mil for like 5 roster slots. It's really, really tough unless they're going to run Newhook at 2C.

Girard+ filler(if they had a Girard replacement and were forced to trade him due to Byram n Toews extentions). I don't want to get into it because I come off as a Nylander hater but, his style of play does not fit with Bednar and I can see him getting in the dog house easily and I don't know if an injured Landy can protect him from Mack's "coaching".

Hence why you don't trade Newhook for him.
Also, if the Avs give Compher 5M and/or 6 years I'm throwing a turd on the ice next game I attend.

Seeking Value in the UFA Market
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>MeetYourMakar</b></div><div>Meyers issue was finishing wide open chances. I thought he did fine for a bottom line rookie.
Playing Newhook with Mack AND Rants, is probably the worst thing you can do for Newhook's development. I think Rants should be away from Mack and Newhook should be away from both of them to start. Newhook has an excellent shot but overthinks it and needs to trust his scoring touch. When he plays with veteran goal scorers, he defaults to passing, even on plays where the ebst chance of a goal is him shooting. Put him on the 3rd line with a good playmaker and a speedy grinder and I think we will like what we see. If Newhook has the confidence to want the puck, moving him up in the line up is cool by me.</div></div>
Drouin-Newhook-Puljujarvi? With Drouin's default always being to playmaker and JP being shot shy as well, it could force Newhook and JP into shooting more. Or else they'll be a great possession line with little prodcution to show for it lol.

One mans trash is something something something
There's a lot of interesting guys out there. I know a lot of people are saying it's a poor year for free agents but I'm going to be very interested to see who gets qualified this year in the RFAs. There could be a few surprise options there to take a punt on with the way the flat cap has played out and the havoc it's now causing......best laid plans of mice and men and all that.
From your list there, if JP is cheap enough you take a shot. Foote I'd chance a 4th on but that third could be more valuable in a move for a 2C. Mantha I'd definitely take a punt on for 4th. If he plays to potential he could add a bit of what we've lost with Landy. Maybe see if we can squeeze 700k retention or something. I think the Caps would just be happy to clear that 5 mil. Drouin (though not on the list) also still intrigues me if he came cheap enough. Sharangovich and Gurianov are both interesting too dependent on cost.
Other RFAs I'd keep an eye on are Frederic as with Boston's cap trouble there's always a chance they let him go. Both of the McLeod brothers would be interesting but I'd expect them both to be signed, though Ryan could be more vulnerable, and I really like Zack MacEwan for some grit and sandpaper on the 4th or as the 13th forward if LA don't qualify him. No idea what any of those guys might cost in a trade for their rights. McBain would be a guy I'd look at too but Arizona should give him a QO unless someone is brain dead there, and again no idea how much his rights would cost. I find RFA rights to be one of the hardest things to value.

I'd rather throw olousson there and see what he has to offer. Also mantha probably fits in better on the second line unless you're trying to turn our second line into a shutdown line</div></div>
JP is a flyer who is a candidate to be replaced by a tdl acquisition if needed. I like how his skillset fits on that line on paper, but he'd need to prove he can handle the role. I don't think Olausson is ready yet, but he can take a spot if he earns it.
Two thoughts on the top 6. Yes, line two is 100% a matchup nightmare for opposing teams. That was a big part of why I moved Lehkonen to that line. But also that I think Mantha would be hard pressed not to succeed with MacKinnon and Rantanen. It puts him in the best position to succeed imo.

I know still in win-now mode, but I doubt the Avs would dump what's left of this year's draft capital into Hayes. I think it'd be a good fit, but don't know if they want to pay that price. Also think E-rod will be looking for more than 3m but I could be mistaken.

Sign and trade first happened with the Tkchuk deal so it is doable. If it isn't a sign and trade, to get more than 7 years, acquiring team would have to do a 1 year bridge and then around January or something, they're ok to sign an 8 year deal with the new team. Something about them being on the team in December prior to extending. I think
