I'd argue that in value to the team he might not even be 3 or 4, so that would make him a luxury that they simply can't afford. Be nice to have, just unaffordable in the cap era and especially with it having been flat. That doesn't mean that he isn't good it just proves the point of how much value Toews has compared to Nylander for the Avs. The Avs need to focus on all round depth not another star player that they couldn't afford to re-sign.</div></div>
He'd be the 3rd scoring option. But as far as overall value from the forward group, I would have Val and a healthy Landy ahead of him. And his lack of effort defensively would drive Bednar crazy.

Yeah I got ahead of myself because second best to Makar is like drasaitel to McDavid
At the same time my point is also that Nylander can be a good teams #1 option upfront also I believe, ofcourse on Colorado he's not #1 but he would be great the #2 option
Toews is great I think he's better than Reilly but I also think they're in the same tier as #1 options on the backend meaning only the most elite are above them yeah I guess I can agree this trade is probably swayed in favour of Toronto but depends on how you rate lehkonen I'd have to say
I think Toews for Nylander is pretty close after the points you made I was a bit off I still think Nylander is more valuable he's in the top elite of the league considering he's being compared with Matthews, Marner and Toews is in the second tier of the good defensemen but it's close Toews is very valuable
That's where I stand now lol</div></div>
Lehkonen is more valuable to the Avs than his trade return would be. He is stapled to MacKinnon's left on the top line 5v5 because of his solid 2way game and his ability to forecheck and backcheck relentlessly allowing MacK to exert more energy on offense. He is also one of our best PKers and can fill in on the top PP when injuries arise. For everything he does for the Avs, 4.5M AAV is a steal.

Avs are probably waiting out the market. Similar to E-Rod last year, I would expect them to add 1 more forward around September. Or give a few guys that don't get contracts PTO's.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>McRanteskog</b></div><div>I think the GF/G you are looking at for COL was playoff stats only? I’m seeing closer to 3.3, not 2.7.
I think using the stance that Toews is COLs second best defenseman is flawed because he’d be a #1 on most teams because not everyone has a Cale Makar..
I think Toews > Reilly everyday of the week to be honest. Toews is just so well rounded and I think he’d even sign for less than Reilly’s 7.5mil</div></div>
Toews is better than Reilly and will sign for more money. I'm guessing closer to 8-8.5 AAV.
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>MaxBorjshlapsky</b></div><div>Ok well Colorado was 12th in goals per game 2.71
And Toews is second best defenseman or will he be third best with Byram
But I guess I do understand your argument but my opinion is Nylander is worth 2 Devon Toews even as good of a defenseman as he is.
I think nylanders worth 2 of any teams second best defensemen just my opinion</div></div>
In the regular season, the Avs were 11th in GF/G and 9th in GA/G with 450+ man games lost. There is just no need to move a Top 15 D for a more expensive winger that doesn't defend. Avs offense was 0.05 GF/G behind Toronto last season. I don't see any reason to add an expensive wing until next summer, and that would only be if Landy doesn't recover to a point where he can return.
If Toews is willing to take a 5x7, he is by far the most valuable piece in this trade for the Avs style of play. Toews is excellent in transition, which is the hallmark of this Avs team.

The Avs are a good contender that could help Zadina rejuvenate his career (like Drouin), and he'll get good development here even if it's mostly with the Eagles, so the Avs check Zadina's box. Maybe they could put their differences aside?</div></div>
I like the Zadina fit, but he won't be going to the Eagles. He would rather give up 4.5 million dollars than play in the AHL. He's going somewhere that guarantees him a NHL roster spot and a chance to produce.

For what they ask of Manson, he is much easier and cheaper to replace. If he didn't have trade protection this summer, they could have moved him and signed Soucy or Gudas. 3rd pairing physical defenseman are pretty easy to replace and don't cost nearly as much as it would to replace Girard's role.

I think Meyers would start in the AHL if they add all these guys. Meyers needs to play to continue his development. If they aren't committed to giving him 10-12 minutes a night, he needs to be in the AHL. But I don't see either as a huge improvement over Meyers, so I'd probably just get one of Boqvist and Gurianov.

I don't know about that. I would prefer they extend Toews and trade Manson next summer. Then use Malinski and Behrens in the bottom pair or as 6/7 and get another depth D for cheap. Then in 2 years, if Gulyayev is ready to come over, trade Girard.

When looking at just Forwards, his Corsi% for the regular season was 9th among Avs regulars and is on ice xGF was 5th among Avs regulars. His on ice actual Goal% was near the bottom. He was extremely unlucky with actual outcomes, but was by no means lost.
His underlying statistics point to him being 3rd line center at the NHL level if he can improve his finishing. Otherwise he is a legit 4th line center that should generate more positive outcomes than negative ones.

Just looking at it from a pure financial perspective. For 825K, you are looking for 10-15 points minimum (If you go by the 10 points per million dollars). Anyone giving you 20+ points for right around league minimum is a success. Anything more than that is an added bonus. With his skill, we should expect a lot more than that if he can play enough defense to stick in the top 6.

Lowest outcome to label the move a failure: Buried in the AHL by the deadline.
Would consider anything over 20 points and a consistent role in the top 9 to be a success.
In an ideal world he finds a home in the Top 6.

To be fair, Barbashev broke Tkachuk's sternum this year. So make that 2 sternums in 2 summers for Barby. Girard has been pretty durable other than that and has been much better against bigger competition than his reputation. That series against Vegas when he was 22 killed his rep. But he was one of our better D in the playoffs this year and last year prior to the broken sternum.

change with feedback
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>M96N29</b></div><div>COL's roster is almost complete. Add a bottom six forward and maybe a depth D (more than likely they just rotate JJ, MacDermid, Hunt) and preserve any remaining cap space for a possible deadline move. The problem all along with moving one of their D-men is that their very next move has to fill that hole on D. Given the quality of a Toews or Girard, almost every replacement is a downgrade or a quality one will eat the cap space that was created by moving Girard or Toews.
In a sense, moving a D-man usually ends up being a lateral move for COL at best. The only exception, imo, is moving Manson (probably not possible) who is the only one who could be replaced for cheaper and not lose us much defensively.</div></div>
This is why I would prefer to roll with the D-core as is and then move Manson next summer when his trade protection drops to a 12 team NTC.

What It Might Look Like
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>RFS_90</b></div><div>I don't necessarily disagree with any of what you've said here. Val's health is a key factor in whether or not MacK and Mikko need to be split up. Hopefuly Val is back to his normal, healthy self, in which case, a second line of Drouin, RyJo, Val could really work.
The only pushback I'd have on the second part about miscasting Drouin is that the 3rd line is going to look different than it has in the past. Both Wood and Colton are strong at pushing offense and creating opportunities, and Ross Colton can really shoot... So I think we're going to see a more high-tempo offensive 3rd line, which should play well into Drouin's game.</div></div>
Drouin would be a good fit offensively with Colton and Wood as neither is much of a playmaker. They would benefit from having Drouin feed them scoring chances. But that line would have some serious defensive issues if Wood and Colton have an off night on the forecheck. Admittedly a Wood-Colton forecheck would be a nightmare to play against, so hopefully they wouldn't spend much time in their own end.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>RFS_90</b></div><div>I don't disagree. Even a 2nd line spot would be fine. My concern is mostly with making sure Drouin can get the most out of himself in Colorado. I have some concerns about his ability to do that playing top minutes with Nate.
I do, however, like the idea of him playing with Val. I think Val can make up for some of his defensive deficiencies.</div></div>
I think 2nd line is most likely unless they decide splitting MacK and Mikko is the best thing for offensive production. My biggest concern with Drouin is that he would be severely miscast as a bottom 6 player. But if he doesn't find a fit in the top 6 after an extended look, his contract is small enough, that he could be buried in the AHL and the Avs can swing a trade at the deadline for better top 6 option.

I'm not sure which part of "Drouin is going to get a look next to Nate in the preseason and training camp, and the FO being comfortable in his ability to play with RyJo" means he's not the preferred option to fill out the Top 6 at least to start the season. Not saying whether it will work out or not, but based on what CMac has said in recent interviews and the players they signed, Drouin should get the first crack at a top 6 role.

I don't care about the chemistry he had with Nate 11 years ago in Junior hockey... Since then, this guy has shown that the pressure of playing top minutes can get to him.
He's immensely talented, and he'll be a huge part of the team... However, getting the most out of him means putting him in a situation where he can succeed. To me, that's 3LW with Colton and Wood, and put him on the top PP to make use of whatever might remain of his old chemistry with Nate.
I'll be happy to be wrong about this... I love the Drouin pickup for the Avs. I just don't think the expectations should be as high as they seem to be with Avs fans.</div></div>
CMac has said they are comfortable with Drouin's ability to play next to either MacK or RyJo. He will be on whichever line Mikko isn't as Val and Lehky are most effective when split up. Wood will be 3LW next to Colton. And those two need to be paired with someone that is better defensively than Drouin. My guess would be one of the following to start the season:
Drouin-MacK-Lehky
Val-RyJo-Rantanen
Wood-Colton-3RW
or
Lehky-MacK-Rantanen
Drouin-RyJo-Val
Wood-Colton-3RW
