That's very fair. If Nylander was willing to sign a contract extension around 9 - 10mil per year long term would you be open to it as a caps fan?

Disagee. When healthy he was solid, if he's not healthy the Hawks can afford to put him on LTIR for the 1 year and pay him to pick up the late 1st round pick.

I completely agree. Philly is my bet on the landing spot as well. I just did this on reports that the Islanders are a front-runner (not the front runner, but one of a few teams). Just wanted to show that the Islanders can make it work without screwing up our team or longer term outlook.

How Gaudreau becomes an Islander
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Hockeypal</b></div><div>Why would you trade Beau and not Bailey very silly</div></div>
IMO Beauvillier has more value than Bailey. There's speculation that the Islanders would need to give up assets to move Bailey who honestly is a great 2nd line player (which I find silly). Beauvillier being younger (and only 850k cheaper) likely has value enough to get a 2nd round pick in return, instead of us giving up a 2nd or 3rd round pick to move Bailey.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>yzt_74</b></div><div>Jonny hockey is DEFINETLY getting 10mil+ aav in the open market</div></div>
I agree, I wrote in my disclaimer that there are reports that the Flames already offered over 10 mil. Other reports (like I mentioned if you read it) say he wants to go closer to home, likely one of Philly, Isles or Devils. So if that is the case, it becomes a bidding war between those 3 teams which may bring his price tag down.

Yeah you are right about Kuemper, but at this point that is speculation. I could see Buffalo offering him a good amount leaving Washington high and dry. I wrote that in my disclaimer at the talk. There will be a team (not necessarily Washington) who needs a goalie. So if we are going after Gaudreau, we should be able to trade Varlamov and get a decent price.
As for Montreal and Beauvillier, yes that's true. But reports are that Kent Hughes wanted to add 2-3 more players. I chose Montreal in a Beauvillier day because of the french connection, but there should be a market for Beauvillier for at least a 3rd round pick, hopefully closer to a 2nd +

Liljegren just signed for less on a 2 year deal. I could see us locking up Romanov longer term on a ~4 million AAV. But short term he likely gets no more than 2.5M.

As an Isles fan, I see Girard > Beau. We're hoping to get a 1st for Varlamov, so sending a 2nd to make up the difference between Girard and Beau helps us get that 1st.
Now the Isles can turn around and sign a back-up goalie for under 2 million.

Forsberg and Chychrun
As an Isles fan, we can absolutely not lock ourselves into a UFA winger long term. We need to give the core we have 1 more chance before re-tooling around Barzal, Dobson, Wahlstrom and our current weak prospect pool. While I like acquiring Chychrun, we just can't lock ourselves into Forsberg/Gaudrea/Fiala/etc. for 7-10 million long term. It's stupid contracts that cost us the flexibility needed to continue as contenders, and stupid contract are not the answer.

giving up a first for Varlamov is a tough look. Hopefully they can do better than that.</div></div>
Very true, just comparing it to Kuemper who is a weaker goalie. He was acquired for a 1st last year and it worked out for the Avs.

Very fair, but they still need a couple goalies. A 4th might not get it done, but I think this could be a win-win situation. Leafs dump the goalie that didn't work out. Sabres get a decent goalie that'll play 40 games and maybe a couple assets.

Varlamov would be solid for the Sabres, but isn't he worth more than a 4th? I'd be very surprised if he goes for less than a 2nd.

You're absolutely right, I didn't look much into him after the trade. I assumed a 2 year deal would keep him as an RFA. So more likely it would be a 1 year deal around 3 million.

Very fair about Bailey, no worries there. As for offer sheeting, I think the league would be more fun if it occured more often. Barzal will likely get a 1-2 mil pay upgrade at most. Wahlstrom, yes there would be concern if he has a big year.

Really, really like this. I think Avs would be a great fit for Varlamov again if Sakic is willing to pay for him. As for Sergachev, I think it costs more and I am not sure if we have the cheap replacement they need. Maybe Mayfield needs to be in that deal.

Is This Realistic
I actually think this is fairly realistic. Couple of notes:
- I think dumping Mrazek costs more (maybe add a 2nd)
- Trochek probably costs more as a UFA, I'm thinking closer to 6.5 mil
Besides that I think it's alright and Trochek seems like he'd be a great fit for this team if they move Nylander.

Obviously you liked it, who wouldn’t like a virtually free top pairing defensemen.
I also saw a Sebastian Aho for Sebastian Aho swap on another ACGM, doesn’t mean it’s fair or has any chance of happening lol

Seattle builds for the future
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>SevenLeg</b></div><div>Really? From an outsider pov, it looks like Eberle is more important to New York than Bailey.</div></div>
They are similar in production, but Bailey is more versatile. Eberle literally has no other place in the lineup than on Barzal's wing, where honestly I think he hurts the line more than he helps. Bailey and Eberle have similar contracts that end in the same year, but Eberle is 500k more. I'd rather keep the Bailey-Nelson-Beauvillier line together and try to bring in a winger for Barzal or give Wahlstrom a better look.

I do believe Eberle's time is done for the Islanders. I could also see us making a deal with Seattle to leave him exposed if they also take one of Komarov/Hickey. I don't like Eberle playing with Barzal, and he doesn't fit in the rest of the lineup. I'd say if we could get a 3rd with Debrusk we do it.

For the Islanders I highly doubt we give up Bailey. I think we're more likely to allow Seattle to take Eberle if they also take someone like Hickey (and maybe we throw in a pick).
