I mean, I’m fine with bumping up the pick on account of retention. But Suzuki is waivers exempt and that would clear up a spot for a player who might actually have a future with the CBJ

Columbus declines. Both Bean and Bemstrom are on the block, but the only thing you offered that interests them is the pick. Throw in a goalie prospect or another pick, and you’re in the neighborhood.

Columbus declines; we're already overstuffed with RHD, we're not replacing one with another (and especially not adding money in the process). We'd be happy to ship you an RHD (Peeke, most likely), but we'd need at least a 2nd-round pick in return, unless you'd be open to sending Chaz Lucius from your overflowing cabinet of young centers.

If it helps, I was honestly hoping CBJ got 1OA this year, great fan base and much much more deserving of a game changer like bedard than Chicago. Chicago just got off a streak of Kane and Toews... they don't deserve Bedard, and shouldn't have even had the pick imo with the Kyle Beach stuff.</div></div>
AGREED. But Fantilli is quite a nice consolation prize, and is honestly a better bet to stick down the middle long-term. And while we've had electrifying wingers in the past (Nash, Panarin, now Johnny and Laine), we've NEVER had a true, legit, dominant 1C. This is our shot at it.

A 3rd would get it done, I suspect. But ask any Columbus fan how they feel about the Penguins (and their fans, for that matter).

I like backlund , but he's definitely not a 1C , he's a 2C/3C. But Jenner is also not a 1C and he did okay last year stepping in, so him or backlund are interchangeable there.
2.sure.
3.sure.
4.ARE YOU CRAZY lol</div></div>
1. I know Backlund isn't a true 1C; it'd be more like having three 2Cs (Backlund, Fantilli, Jenner if he plays in the middle).
2. Peeke is a guy who's valuable only insofar as he blocks shots. Boqvist has HUGE upside. Would much rather trade Peeke.

Buying cheap
1. Skip Duchene; he's just taking up a spot, Backlund can be our 1C since Duchene isn't really a center anymore, and Sillinger needs to play center, not 4LW (also let's get Tex off the 4th line while we're at it, yuck)
2. Skip the retention on Backlund and keep one of Bemstrom or Foudy
3. Trade Roslovic elsewhere to free up funds and a winger spot
4. Trade Peeke instead of Boqvist

Columbus declines; we're already overstocked at RHD, so this worsens that situation. Replace Bean with Peeke, take out the 3rd and Carrier, and we may do just straight up Peeke for Sissons.

CBJ aren't in the business of helping Pittsburgh out, no matter who your PoHOps is. We're fine to deal Roslovic, but unless you overpay, it's likely gonna be somewhere else. The chances we pursue a Lindholm deal aren't high; I suspect they'd sooner go after Backlund because it would cost less to obtain him and he wouldn't require a long-term commitment. And we've got plenty of cap space to do that even if we don't move Roslovic (though I suspect we will).

Not horrible value for Peeke, though I suspect Columbus would prefer Silovs to the 4th-rounder. But I've seen worse offers here, so... grape job.

Keep on rollin
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>HockeyGuy39</b></div><div>I totally agree, trading Boqvist would have to get you a good return because he is a good player. On the flip side of that though, he is the type of defenseman that needs minutes to really be all he can be. If the future of the top 4 is Werenski-Jiricek Provorov-Severson, there might not be enough minutes to go around. That's the only reason I can see him being the odd man out. Peeke may not be a better overall player than him, but who is going to thrive more in that bottom pair role? Who knows, it will be interesting to watch this unfold over the next year or two.
These are good problems to have though. Maybe you don't need Grzelcyk and Bean holds the spot down. I just think both the team and prospect defenseman are a little right-handed heavy, so sending out a RHD and bringing in a LHD might make sense. Either way it's exciting to have this much talent in the system right now so we'll see how they use it all.</div></div>
I think you keep Boqvist as the eventual 3RD with PP2 QB responsibilities (parking Gud either on 3LD or in the press box where he belongs) when Jiricek is ready to come up. Until then, though, I'd rather have him around than Peeke. But the Pageau trade bothers me less than the Grzelcyk deal... I'd honestly rather just get picks or prospects for Roslovic, or have him replace Bemstrom in the Pageau trade.

I'd consider doing it if Duchene were still a viable center... but he's not, and hasn't been for some time. Plus, there are whispers about him being a bad culture guy in Nashville, so I just don't see it being a great fit for Columbus.

CBJ pass, though they'd surely have interest in Pageau if you're selling (especially at that valuation).
EDIT FOR CLARIFICATION: Neither Aho nor Holmstrom really fills a need for Columbus.
