Haha, it was those comments that prompted me to to do this exercise. Last I saw was that there was still some hope that Fantilli might be able to play the last few games of the season for Columbus, included him more so as an investment by Hockey Canada in his future (doesn’t hurt that Nash is GM)

Savoie and a 2nd? Didn’t put as much thought into from the Buffalo side other than there being pressure on KA to make the playoffs
I think the new GM in CBJ will want to make a big move and Jenner is probably their biggest chip

I’ll take positive regression from Joseph + Grieg over those contracts to JVR and Engvall. Take the extra cap and subtract Zadina to pursue a better top 6 option. If Winnipeg agrees to that deal I’m all for it.
Wouldn’t pay hamonic that much

I like ROR as a player but don’t think it’s worth going beyond 2 yr term at this point in his career. Even 2x5M feels steep to me. We’ll see what he ends up getting but I’d walk away if they want 4 years.
That is way too much of an overpay for Laughton. I understand his value/the value of 50% retention for 2 years, but that price would not be smart asset management from the Leafs
I’d be fine with that Graves contract but think he’ll fetch more from another team and I wouldn’t get in a bidding war over him.

Zero chance mayfield signs for 3 years at that number.
He’s going to cash in for at least 4-5 years at $4M.
Probably going to cost more to get Konecny with retention than this offer.
Brown can also likely can get more on a 1 year deal.
Don’t underestimate Ceci’s value on his current contract. Would trade Kulak before Ceci, Kulak is a luxury on the 3rd pair and doesn’t see success in a top-4 role.

Maybe not - but Calgary has a new GM who wants more youth and skill upfront. Calgary has strength on D right it can trade from. In any case - just illustrating that I think Buffalo should be aggressive in pursuing a versatile top 4 D this summer

Playoffs
More a result of the oilers cap situation than their inherent value. Kulak is a valuable player - but at luxury to have on your 3rd pair at that price. Trading him on his own might net you a mid to late round pick. Foegele is an average 3rd liner or luxury on the 4th. Holland is going to be under pressure to create cap space this summer and should avoid paying assets to take have other teams take on contracts (kassian, and what would be needed for Campbell). Could mean losing players like kulak and Foegele for nothing. Buffalo in a good spot to take advantage of this.
I’ll do another agm from oilers perspective

I think the trade for Konecny is honestly decent value on both sides (I guess if I were PHI I would be trying to hold out for a team willing to give a potential mid first). Small thing but Knies has to be at 950K (all ELC's). I also don't see a world where Connor Brown ends up with that cheap of a deal.. even if the injuries he'll get more on a prove it deal

This is a wild trade.. but I don't hate it
The sticker shock looking at the trade is real, if I was ARI I would jump on this so quick, two young first-round talents plus two more first-round picks. But looking at the Vegas lineup this looks pretty solid to me as well. Having Chycrun and Theodore for less than $10 million on your left side for the next 3 years is solid. Definitely a cup or bust move for the next 3 years. At that point Vegas may finally need to tear down and rebuild. This strategy can only last for so long

This is fair and maybe I'll take a look at options from VAN perspective to make this work. I think the best argument is that Girard does provide a boost to their d-core anyway, I wouldn't necessarily consider Girard as an offensive-minded D and more of a possession-driving D. He is effective defensively by limiting defensive-zone time through quick breakouts/transitions and extending in zone-possession. VAN lacks talent in their D-core, and he brings that

Benefit in the short term is that there are fewer buyers for Miller right now (Most teams just don't have the cap space). TDL is a bidding war. Also gives Miller the year to integrate with the team. I also just think that Miller will be the best rental available at center and think that it is worth it to jump on the opportunity.

This is fair feedback, could simply add a 2nd and have the condition that it would upgrade to a 1st if COL makes the WCF or SCF (something like that). I actually think that Girard is a great fit for Van:
-young
-cost-controlled through his prime
-allows them to have a breakout machine on each of their top 2 pairs (VAN struggles breaking out of their zone)
I think Miller is a fit for a lot of teams but especially COL as they need a top center and are committed to ring-chasing in the short term. Also have the cap space to facilitate a trade now, saves VAN from risk that Miller regresses/gets hurt and loses value

This is my AGM, and this is not done simply with the view of being cap compliant. It's about trading from an area of strength to address a relative weakness. Will Colorado make the playoffs with Mackinnon-Newhook-Compher down the middle? Yes. Is that enough center depth to win the Cup? I highly doubt that. Picking up Miller allows them to have the best 1-2 punch at C in the league while still having the best top 3 D in the league. Sounds alright to me

Is the value fair
I do like Sanheim as a target for FLA. Would pay that price for him especially if it comes with an extension. I think you could likely afford to keep duclair if you can move horny before the season starts and avoid using LTIR - and use accrued cap space throughout the season to fit in Sanheim.
I also think the price to off-load horny to Anaheim is fair because GMPV will see it as an opportunity to pick up a respected veteran, and if ANA is out of the playoff picture he will be able to get further draft capital at the TDL.

Tightening up the cap and getting some depth
Yeah, would have to pay a lot more to dump both Foligno and Coyle. If either of them, better to pay the price to dump coyle since it is multiple years. Not sure Boston will even be up for that.
Forward depth looks good though. I would place Debrusk as 2RW with 37 and 63 and place Rodrigues as the 3C, shifting Zacha to 3LW (Zacha has performed much better on the wing as of late compared to C).
I don't think signing Subban is necessary.

The number in question is pretty arbitrary. The point is that if Ottawa cannot make a trade, and JBD/Thomson show that they are not ready, it is not good enough that the Sens just roll with Zaitsev or hamonic with Sanderson. De Haan is an upgrade on them even if De Haan may be over-valued. The point is that whatever other teams offer, whether it's a one year or multiple year deals, Ottawa has the cap space to outbid and keep it to 1 year.

For Vancouver, they need to evaluating deals for Miller in terms of total future value. Yes, Miller will provide more value this year than Girard. But they can't afford to pay Miller's next contract and so the cumulative value of picking up a 3/4 D entering his prime years for 5 seasons outweighs having one season of Miller. conditional picks protect against Colorado re-signing Miller

Girard is only considered a 3rd pair D on Colorado. He would instantly become Vancouver's #2 D and a solid option to play behind hughes. Cost certainty for the next 5 years as well.

Finish the rebuild
I don't hate it.. but it might be a bit much, the only trade that strikes me as unrealistic is the EDM deal. They will probably just buy out Neal themselves rather than trade a prospect like Broberg. That D-core for next year would also be a huge risk, I would advocate for keeping one of Murphy or Keith. Will be an interesting summer regardless with their financial flexibility. Something else I found interesting is that in this scenario, you have two years left of Kane/Toews at 10.5, Connolly at 3.5, Ladd's money off the books, and retention on Keith off the books. Obviously some of that will go towards re-signing the young guys but Id say they should aim to be going for it in 3 years, hopefully with Toews and Kane at reduced salaries
