I disagree with Rossi being a defensive liability. He was fine in his own end in Iowa. He should be their 2C next year. Personally I think he can handle it.

Minnesota needs PK help and draft capital just for the sake of offseason ammunition to go centerhunting as well as deadline ammunition.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Isles5513</b></div><div>He’s not even comfortable moving veterans. How does Toews only get your organization two seconds? How does Leddy get you a second but you somehow end up with Richard Panik at 50% retained?</div></div>
So, you have to take into consideration a few things.
1. Everyone knew the Islanders were in a cap bind thanks to Ladd's deal and the potential of a threat of arbitration by Toews. Teams used that as leverage hence why Lou only got 2 2nds.
2. Regarding Leddy, Detroit wanted to end their playoff drought and used their boatload of cap space to take on Leddy with no salary retained. To compensate for Panik, they gave us the 2nd rounder.
Each scenario is different. I disagree with your primary statement. Lou doesn't give 2 ****s about seniority. Exposed Eberle 2 years after signing him. Traded Leddy, a Trotz favorite. Exposed Bailey instead of Beauvillier. Fired Trotz with 1 year left on his deal.

Sure but Boldy and Fiala were both shutdown in the playoffs for the fact that they didn't have a true center driving that line. That's why Evason alternated Gaudreau with Jost during the playoffs.

They were both centered by Freddie Gaudreau. Give Fiala either Nelson or Barzal and at the very least he can replicate those numbers.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Ironshadow</b></div><div>Regardless of Value Fiala gets paid more than 7.2 in my opinion. I think the issue for Minn is while mayfield is solid he is a ufa next season. They definitely wont have the money to sign him after the season so now the price for all that they got back for fiala and addison is most likely two late ish 2nds a 3rd and Holmstrom. The wild just cant trade for win now pieces with the cap crunch while also trading away one of their best forwards. It just doesnt make sense.</div></div>
The mindset behind this trade is tri-fold.
1. Gives them cap space to re-sign Middleton and Fleury and incorporate Rossi into their lineup.
2. Also fixes their dreadful PK
3. Gives them an internal option incase Dumba's pricetag is too high. Holmstrom would also be in the lineup as well on an ELC so he can also provide a much-needed boost on their PK. Furthermore offseason trades are usually less than deadline trades.(Toews, Buch, Reinhart, Arvidsson)

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Warrior24</b></div><div>Minn will definitely get better offers.
Ideally Salo play 3rd pair this year with Mayfield and helps bring more offense from the 3rd pair and Bolduc is ready the following year. Then you can have 3 well balanced pairs:
Pelech-Pulock- Continue to be one of the NHL's best pair
Bolduc-Dobson- Bolduc can help cover defensively to let Dobson roam more
Salo-Mayfield- Salo helps bring offense to the 3rd pair while Mayfield continues strong defensive play.
PP1- Dobson
PP2- Salo/ Pulock
PK1- Pelech- Pulock
PK2- Bolduc- Mayfield</div></div>
See regarding Minnesota, I disagree because DeBrincat is going to get the bulk of trade offers out there which can be seen as a diversion. I also think Bolduc is at least 2 more years away. If you're Minnesota, this would be a kickass D core
Middleton - Spurgeon
Brodin - Dumba
Merrill - Mayfield
Goligoski
I do think they're going to move Kulikov. There's just no room for Addison. A shame he'd have to shave his signature stache.

By all reports parise and suter were more or less locker room cancers their last couple years in minny. The minny locker room is 10x closer than when parise was there last year, so fiala might look at him as a main reason why and not necessarily a welcome face.</div></div>
No reports of Parise being a lockerroom cancer here on the Island. Suter's the one who hung up on Guerin; not Parise.

Looking at other teams needs
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Claesson4Norris</b></div><div>Post should be titled "looking at other teams needs.... and ignoring them". Sens have absolutely no use at all for Josh Bailey. Look at the Wingers they have next year. Sens have Tkachuk, Batherson, Joseph, Formenton and Brown in the top 9 next year. There's definitely an opening on the 2nd line,,but definitely not for a completely inept goalscorer like Bailey. He makes 5mil and would be a 4th liner in Ottawa. Bailey to Ottawa deals on here are getting worse than Byron to Ottawa used to be.</div></div>
On a team like Ottawa, Bailey would be mid-6. If he helps them make the playoffs, cool. If not, he can get flipped at the 2024 deadline when 1. Buyers get more desperate and 2. When his supporting cast helps bump up his numbers, increasing his value.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Warrior24</b></div><div>Not necessarily, Lou can certainly have an understanding with Chara and will work out the details during the Summer. Parise signed his deal last summer almost 2 months before it was announced.
Whether Salo was drafted by Lou or not, he looks like a legit NHL D. He should have been playing every game over Aho who is a 7th D at best, and more likely just a really good AHL player.</div></div>
Salo had his moments but the Islanders organization isn't going to be as patient with him compared to Dobson given the difference of age. Also, the Parise deal back then compared to now are entirely different circumstances. Team was cap crunched then compared to now.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>dannibalcorpse</b></div><div>off the top of my head - Pittsburgh has nearly $29M in cap space next year and a Bryan Rust-sized hole in their lineup next season.
Anaheim is in the last stages of a rebuild and is probably ready to pull the trigger on a top line player to pull them all the way into contention ($41M in cap next year!)
Nashville's got $26+M in cap space and might be in the market for a Filip Forsberg replacement.
Colorado's got Nazem Kadri, Andre Burakovsky, and Valeri Nichushkin coming off the books and while they may have more holes to fill than the other teams here, they also have $26.5M to play with.</div></div>
Pittsburgh needs $ for Malkin, Letang and Kapanen and Rakell.
Colorado needs C depth more than winger depth. Keeping Kadri should be no. 1 priority.
Nashville is going to most likely keep Forsberg due to the 8th year and no income tax.
Anaheim isn't in the last stages of the rebuild given that they literally traded away Lindholm.

Mike Reilly would be a good pickup as Boston will most likely move him this offseason, and if the Isles do re-sign Chara then the D is:
Pelech-Pulock.
Chara-Dobson
Reilly-Mayfield
Salo (Rotate in like they did Dobson his 1st year.
If Chara is not resigned then the Isles should look to find a LD that is better Defensively than Dunn that allows Dobson to join the rush. A guy like McCabe from CHI could fit that slot.
Pelech-Pulock.
McCabe-Dobson
Reilly-Mayfield
Salo (Rotate in like they did Dobson his 1st year.</div></div>
If the Islanders were bringing back Chara, they would've re-signed him along with Clutterbuck and Parise. Salo also wasn't drafted by the Islanders when Lou was in charge. No attachment.
