Possible moves
I don't see the Hawks trading for Hammer, but also...for a team in AZ that doesn't normally make money...they'll probably have a fire sale just to lost assets that cost real money like Raanta and Hammer. Meaning the Hawks wouldn't have to give this much.

Latest thoughts on next season
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>bigmikewall</b></div><div>With regards to the expansion draft in 2021, who would then have slated as the person the Seattle Franchise would most likely take. I think it would be Murphy or Shaw but are there any players we should be worried about. Also nice job not spending all the cap space we have in case we need to trade for someone or just saving for future extensions.</div></div>
Cap space for that reason but also to cover the carryover bonuses from last year, I believe they are close to $2M that count against this next season cap.
It's a good question who we expose. Shaw for sure would be exposed and likely Kampf. Signing Koekko for 2 years also allows us to expose him. Quite a number of our players would be exempt on ELCs; Hawks are the 6th youngest team in the NHL believe it or not (maybe 5th).

yeah it might not be as high as we would like but its not gonna be for the equivalent of Maatta

in my dreams
Does Tuch want out of Vegas or something? Why is everybody trading for him? Unless he wants out I don’t see why Vegas lets him go. That contract is insanely team friendly.
Also I 100% make this trade. Gus is replaceable. Sikura and I have the same amount of goals scored in the NHL and he’s played more games than me, Nylander can stay in Chicago after the trade and play for the Wolves.

Who do you think is gone next year
Gus, Maatta and Smith I could easily see gone for cap reasons. Caggs I could see stay or go depending on how Quenneville plays in the minors

Just a thought. I like the idea of pageau assuming his value isn’t too high. However, one of my buddies is a huge devils fan and he believes the devils are way too high palmieri to let go of him. I’m inclined to believe that because he is a very consistent bright spot on a very inconsistent team.
I heavily agree that holm deserves a chance with the hawks because he’s been a constant presence with the ice hogs. Also, I do wish we still has joker as well, but I do have to say that the run and gun offense is definitely benefitting him. It’s actually fun to watch the team again and everyone looks like they’re working hard.

Lines for Washington
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>BuFfaLOFaN</b></div><div>Is Gustafsson not good anymore?</div></div>
Gustafsson has been (as he is known to be) very solid offensively, very not solid defensively. Don't be fooled by this lineup though, Maatta-Seabrook is the true 3rd pair, Gus will stay play 20+ minutes a night.

Like these lines a lot. Smith is such an underwhelming player I really don't understand why he's in the line up. We have plenty of face off guys as is with Shaw, Kampf, Toews, Strome, Carpenter and Dach in this scenario. Plenty of options for Colliton.

I am intrigued. Grabner deal is way off in value, but I think he might be a solid addition. What about a Nylander for Hamonic deal? We would probably have to add but I like the idea of having De Haan and Hamonic together.

What if Merkley cracked the lineup
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>bigmikewall</b></div><div>Ryan Merkley has been known to be sort of a cancer so to speak. I've watched him live before, with his great offensive upside comes his terrible attitude towards players and coaches, constantly blaming others and giving up on plays in the defensive end. He was reportedly told by his junior team to not show up to camp because what happened last year with all this. Since he is not 20 (the age the CHL and NHL have agreed upon entering the AHL) he will spend either this season or next playing for an independent league or a league in Europe depending on if he will land on a new OHL (many gm's in the OHL hate him). Don't get me wrong kid is very good and if anyone can fix attitude issues its the sharks with locker room guys such as Joe, Couture, and Karlsson. I would be cautious in rushing him into the NHL because he may get mad if he doesn't see results immediately.
Sorry for the long post hope this helps.</div></div>
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>ClockReads2113</b></div><div>Technically no b/c of the NHL and juniors contract. BUT I wonder what happens if no team wants them to play for him. Maybe there's a loop hole where the CHL releases him then he could go to AHL.</div></div>
Oh yeah I’ve heard all the news on Merkley but didn’t know about that AHL clause of age, if that’s the case than yeah idk if he’ll get a junior team to take him. In the NHL tho you can’t act the way he does and I think he personally has left the Juniors and etc behind because he thinks/ wants to be in nhl. So maybe he’ll turnaround in the NHL or the dressing room will make him. But supposedly he got along really well with the sharks when he played with them before. Especially burns. But this is all supposedly and at the end of the day probably made a bigger deal by the media than it is and so we can’t tell if he’s good with our room until he’s actually here. So for now we just gotta hope he turns his attitude into something somewhat proper.
Otherwise that will be what breaks him if anything because his talent is there

Interesting! I actually really like this! One year deal and definitely trade capital at the deadline should we end being poor again this year. Kudos for this one buddy!
Only one question though: are you sure the devils don’t ask for more out of this trade? I haven’t paid too much attention to vatanen lately, so I’m not sure where his value stands now.
