Thread: off season
This assumes ARZ new Owners are as cheap as the old ones
After July 1st Price has 5.5m signing bonuses Price has 9.5m in physical money owed in Salary on 21m Cap over 2 years
Friedman was covering it i believe with Marek saying that from a teams POV you're taking on a 4.75m x 2 year hit cash wise if you average it out
But with Price on LTIR it allows a team to go over the cap then activate Price on LTIR and be given additional room beyond the allotted League standard Cap Hit to spend to replace said player.

Its an attractive option right now for an EDM for example
it would give them a bigger cushion then Seabrook in the same position gave TBL on both their cup runs and like what 4 finals runs ?

Right now EDM, CAR, FLA, NJD and MIN are the teams i'd say that would be most helped by an additional cushion
That said i wouldnt expect the return he's thinking as Seabrook got a 2nd and Tyler Johnson who was basically our Anderson but still producing. He just fell behind in a stacked depth chart.
I'd expect something similar and the only clear way to Win for MTL would be to take Kotkaniemi and a 1st for Dvorak's final year and Price's contract
It lets MTL re-write the Narrative on the Trade and it does in a way for CAR as Dvo with 55% faceoffs in bulk so even if you set him on 4th line and have him take all the defensive draws,Still more than KK did

For MTL it gives KK back his 3rd line Center where he started and the change to work under MSL and take that 2nd C thats been envisioned for Dach but lets see how many games before he's on LTIR this season so KK could have a big comeback story. He's overpaid sure but im that confident in Martin St Louis and Coach Nicholas both of whom KK never met by the time he was gone so there is no ill will as everyone from that era is gone basically but Gally, Byron in Development, Boullion , Lapierre and a few others.

CAR would get cap help via Price but also by moving 6 years of KK at 4.8m for 1 year of Dvorak at 2,25/ 4.5m salary after 50% Retained
It would could them a 1st though but the cap savings would be worth it

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Rags21</b></div><div>What’s the point of trading for Kakko and continuing to put him on the 3rd line?</div></div>

Schmaltz and Bjugstad will be leaving soon
Point is Maccelli will be top 6, can Kakko get chemistry with him and go too as soon as Geekie's ready

Geekie, Geekie is the point though for sure as without him people just see Kerfoot who's a Pending UFA and think "what a waste"(its strategic though)
As shown in that Huge explanation there is a line set up for the Hope after 2025-26(or the start if the youth push early)
Kerfoot and Bjugstad were kept on 1 years to but time but i coulda just slapped Geekie in their early i suppose but he's not quite there yet, close but needs at least half a year in the AHL.

Maccelli-Geekie-Kakko could be really good together
It could also be completely pointless effort to integrate Kakko in with the next Generation and instead just push Doan
But i wanted Trouba and the only piece i saw of value NYR fans wouldnt riot over was Kakko. For most moving Kakko and Trouba gives Cap Space which is worth losing some value in the Soderstorm exchange of the former top 10 picks. I'd be just as happy with Lindgren or Schneider or Othman or Even just a Rempe who's less skill more Hits/Grit but is a Fan Favorite, i could sell that .
But something has to come back with Trouba to make the deal work and Kakko just seemed to fit easiest for all sides as Maccelli could use a Winger to play along the boards allowing him more room to set up

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Subbanator7667</b></div><div>Montreal. That's the only market that matters, they need him more then a third line center. Also, any team that needs a top 4 offensive dman, Carolina jumps to mind, Winnipeg, Philadelphia, Nashville, San Jose (if they want a veteran presence), Edmonton, there's always teams looking for veteran depth.

Matheson on his own is fine value wise to just sell off, take the 1st and whatever other pieces, don't need to package him in order to move back in the draft</div></div>

Tried, Tried, Tried,Tried and Didnt try.
CAR fans have a hate on for Matheson for some reason
WindJammer and other WPG fans say Matheson is bad defensively(
They gripe about the dip in his Advanced stats going down in MTL vs PIT
But he never played PK in PIT just 4 minutes total in 2 years there and his advanced stats in all situations were Great, even above average
In MTL on the PK 1 unit he's shaky not having played PK this much since FLA and took a 10% hit on his advanced metrics
Take him off PK and problem solved but then they gripe about his +/- then his turnovers.
Turnovers suck but he recovers 2/3rds he gives up unlike most players with his Turnover rate , and he scored 62 points vs 79 turnovers with 49 recoveries
Then we get to the +/- were only 5 habs regulars total were above 0
But still WPG wants no part in any deal i do outside a 2nd and Appleton(even then some gripe still saying its an overpay)

PHI said they just move Provorov to make room and arent in a position where Matheson or a LD in general is needed
They have to wait to figure out their Goaltending situation thanks to the Carter Hart Debacle and most i got PHI to offer was Couturier and a 3rd for Matheson mostly cause Couturier was healthy 1 season so they're trying to move him for anyone of value while they can

Nashville they say Josi is going no where making Matheson unneeded hence moving out McDonugh to make room for the youth to get some minutes on Left side.

San Jose i never really tried
They always Reject trades for Harris and Barron saying they are rebuilding they'll draft their own cause Acquiring them hasnt worked out so well Ruuta,Mukuhmadullin ,and Addison havent really worked out as great as they were hoping while Drafted Prospect Mario Ferrarro on the other hand is one of the top 20 shot blockers in the league and chewing up minutes.
That said i might have to take another run at a SJS trade

I got no interest in Keeping Matheson, sell on a high
We got a 2 year window where Guhle,Xhekaj,Harris , Barron, and Struble will compete
They will see who will be the Veteran Leaders for the Youth Core of Mailloux, Reinbacher, Engstrom, and Hutson
Thats assuming we dont draft another D if Demidov and Lindstrom are gone , which if Silayev or Levshunov fall from top 4 i'd get as they're studs

Guhle's having his time to shine Usurped by Matheson
Hutson is here and he takes a back seat to no one and eats up minutes by earning them
He'll out work and score Matheson by seasons end which will leave Guhle shove to the Right side if he wants top 4 minutes if we keep Matheson.

Really i think Utah makes the most sense
Its like the 3rd or 4th cheapest hockey state tax wise
Plus they have 0 D signed yet and a ton of players who pull low minutes at this stage in their development.
Matheson for 2 years playing 25 + with Durzi beside him who's grown his defensive game significantly since joining ARZ where he got top RD spot (unlike LAK fighting for minutes with Doughty/Roy)
Matheson-Durzi feels like a pair that could elevate Utah straight out the gate as their foward core depth is actually pretty good give Danil But and Simashev were just removed from their KHL teams site indicateing they're likely coming to play in NHL/AHL this year. 6'5 and 6'7 those big Russians are gonna change a lot for Utah relatively quick especially if a Silayev or Levshunov falls into their hands.

But the other Variable is teams Matheson will accept a trade to as he can block like 8 teams i believe?
so back to square one where its just easier to Trade Guhle in a Necas deal and it free's the appropriate space needed for Hutson/Matheson to co-exist
As long as we dont Re-sign Matheson. But i'd hate to give up Guhle just to keep Matheson who is good and all but he like Savard isnt part of our Cup Team Vision.
They're the guys to get our youth to that point where they can go on a run. There's no room for them as Hughes didnt Sell off Bergavin's Picks and Picked his own at all the same positions.
Now we got them all turning Pro at the same time. Mesar who was Bergavins guy was pushed out by Kidney last season
So delaying even another year is rough as guys we've taken later on in the Draft like Captain Koyuskov our 21 year old 3rd year pro RD we're not factoring in
If we keep hitting home runs with Hutsons,Konyuskov's even Kostenko was a top 10 D in the AHL equivalent over in Russia

We should move someone , anyone on LD ahead of Hutson to ensure he doesnt endure what Guhle has
Forum: Armchair-GMTue. at 2:33 p.m.
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>math731</b></div><div>Why the f would MTL take this **** lmao</div></div>

Mathesons in Guhle and Hutsons way
LD market is all but dead right now
Literally no one needs a LD who plays 25+ a night
I wish it wasnt true but i defy you to find a team that will take him and give you more.
I've tried for the better part of a year since Guhle's growth was Dwarfed when he was moved to RD to get minutes as Matheson was hogging them on Left side.

Utah is basically the only team in play who could use a LD or two who play those kinda minutes
I mean i keep saying CGY but their fanbase hates me now for pointing out he'd fit in there system but i digress.
I coulda made this trade easier without him with a lot less hoops but it had to be him for the good of the youth.
Especially if MTL does what i think its gonna and take another Defenseman if Lindstrom and Demidov are gone in the case we kept our original pick

Plus we get to move up significantly to capture 6'7 Dean Letourneau who's likely to fall just outside the 2nd round.
MTL gets to Take BPA hopefully Iginla but likely Parekh or Buium so trading down allows us to grow the 6'7 french giant guilt free and gives us McBain &gt;Dvorak
MTL walks away with room for our Dcore's Studs to grow before the new wave of Dmen turning pro start pushing like Xhekaj and Guhle did with Barron, Harris and Kovacevic
Or Struble and now Hutson with this year it likely to be Mailloux and Reinbacher pushing with odds on Engstrom overachieving too. So if Moving Matheson shakes you up 2026 is gonne be rough on you

So 6'7 French Center , McBain and a 2nd round pick next year to move Matheson and down 1 spot from 5th OA to 6th OA when we'll have another quality pick including many that can replace Matheson from Buium to Dickinson, Parekh to possibly Silayev who at at least 3/4 of those D will likely be available at that position with Buium NHL Ready as he's done it all going out on the highest high in the NCAA.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>NHLfan10506</b></div><div>Schneider had five good years before injuries took over.

Goalie market is far thinner at deadline, so more likely than not, whoever we exit season with will be it.

We also have two young goalies in Daws and Schmid, both waiver exempt. And two pretty good prospects in Poulter and Malek.

So two reliable vets + two young goalies with NHL experience + two kids pushing them for spots is our most likely recipe.</div></div>

That could work but your shot blockers will need to work double time
All your guys black 75 to 100 a year except Luke Hughes which is fine if the other 5 pick it up
You need at at least two to average 175-200 Blocked Shots a year to skate that rotation of Goalies with success.
Good news is for 3 that is plausible in Hamilton, Nemec and Bahl but most likely Nemec and Bahl as it fits their natural rate of progression
But until the reach it Hamilton helps them supplement the rest.

Marino and Siegenthaler need to get another 50 to 75 or so a year or else Hughes has to start blocking shots more.(which he shouldnt he's a top dog scorer now)
All Plausible but Upgrading Siegenthaler for someone .

Among the Top NHL Shot blockers Matheson who's 10th in the league in Blocked Shots is also 2nd in Ice Time,1st in SH Goals and PP Assists and 2nd in PP Goals while finishing 2nd in Goals ,Assists and Points among Defensman behind only Noah Dobson in terms of head to head stats vs other Shot Blockers.Matheson for Siegenthaler trade would bolster NJD and with a stay at home shot blocker like Nemec the pairing could be lethal offensively.

But there's others in the Shot Blocker Community available Mcnabb,Tanev and Roy all available as Free Agents i believe and they combine for 8pts more then Matheson who's 20 shot blocks behind all 3
Matheson gets called out for bad rushes costing odd man rushes but so did Subban and Markov and Souray, ext but they all blocked a ton of shots and goalies loved them. That was just in MTL too i bet its the same other places. But one things for sure he blocks shots and can always find an open man.

Bahl-Hamilton
Hughes-Marino
Matheson-Nemec

On any given night any of those pairs could be top not just in NJD by the NHL with 5v5 Juggernauts out front followed by fantastic Special teams Players.
Land a Zegras after this trade with your 10th OA pick and NJD will be full to the hilt and still under cap if you're not upgrading in net . You'd block too many shots and lay too many hits for teams to count you out in a playoff run
Forum: Armchair-GMTue. at 7:37 a.m.
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>NHLfan10506</b></div><div>Devils GM has given three interviews in the last week and in each one he talked about the type of player he would move 10th pick for. “Someone special”…”same demographic” as core group (guys in their 20s)…”controllable for this year and years to come”…”could be a goalie”…”also need forward and dman”…

Yet somehow everyone thinks this means a rental goalie who declined trade to NJD…or 35-year old declining goalie…

10th overall for Markstrom alone is not likely on table…and no reason to think it is.

Broduer was still on NJD roster and had been SCF goalie himself the prior year.

And the closest comp to Schneider today would probably be Swayman.</div></div>

Schneider played good hockey with Marty it was a year or two after marty left that he declined
Short term it looked smart but long term Horvat proved to be more valuable as Schneider after his Finals run only played 4 playoff games again ever

But if i had to pick a comparable dynamic its Murray before and after Fleury
Cause Murray and Schenider were both seen as great behind HOF goalies like Luongo , Fleury and Martin Brodeur
But on their own as the top guy they folded like cheap chairs.

Its the dangerous thing about Goalies in comfortable situations
Its one thing if like Markstrom he's already proven the system doesnt define his play nor does the City.
Ullmark on the other hand the City defines his play as does the team in my opinion as in a weird twist he relies on Swayman to carry a lot of the weight in a way most Goalies cant
Saros could play that well anywhere but like Rinne i think he'll choose lower taxes and a less focused on Hockey Market

There's Knight you could target on a low with good odds
There's Askarov you could target on a high as NSH has a history of selling off higher end goalie picks and keeping their Rinne's and Saro's or keeping Mason and Vokoun as long as they did.
All were later round picks and since entering the NHL no other team has drafted and moved more goalies then NSH so its not like its a totally foreign idea.

That said it was usually done when they had multiple Goalies make good reaching Askarov's level competing for 1 job backing up the Starter.
Right now they got a great tandem at the same age in the NHL and Askarov in the AHL so im unsure how long or if they'll want Lainikainenn around
Really though with Allen as Back up i'd just go after Samsanov on a 1-2 year deal and if come TDL things arent better then overpay for a goalie
You wont get top shelf but you'll maybe find a Kuemper,Thomas, Niemi, ext type having a career year putting them over just enough to win

I certainly dont envy NJD Goalie situation right now given then need to compete now.
Its the wrong time to be needing a goalie

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>csick</b></div><div>Markstrom could give u .895 next year and if you paid an arm and a leg you’re a stupid moron . Any goalie can flop. You don’t move high level assets for goalies . Hopefully teams learned from the Cory Schneider trade</div></div>

Capitalism doesnt change because you dont like it.
Supply vs Demand is what it is. Thats the Gamble we all take in said system.
Markstrom could bust tomorrow , true but is it likely ? no
More importantly its besides the point in a bidding War where 2-3 sides decided already it was worth the risk and they're still bidding.

Also Schneider was NJD reacting to losing their best goalie who was in net 2 years
They went after a SCF goalie and paid a high price for sure to do it but that was the cost at the time.
Sometimes it works out like Domink Hasek or Darcy Kuemper and sometimes it dont like Schneider or Voukoun
Such is life in a Capitalist Economy and no amount of insulting people changes that as those trades will still be made regardless.

The alternative is teams giving up on their Playoff hopes like EDM who's done everything to assure any playoff push wont result in a Cup as they have one of the worst Playoff Goalies of the Modern Era statistically. Choosing to do nothing when depth is needed can sour a GM's reputation too a Bergavins seen as the guy who Wasted Carey Price's Career and being too cheap to stay in the bidding war for Savard directly came back to haunt us in the Finals.

for NJD they have multiple 1st OA players who lived up to their pick position
Tons of talent out the Wazoo and the last pick they took around this area is Holtz who's less productive then Guhle taken 9 spots behind him
They're also a team that he's unlikely to struggle with Brodeur there he'll get all the support he needs off ice, with Hamilton and Nemec he'll have all the support he needs on ice.
TBH its an upgrade on the CGY system he's in

Now if he went to OTT thats different its in transition as the new owner tweeks the former Owners vision for his rebuild
Acquiring a Knight from FLA makes 100x more sense then trading for a big name given you wont compete next year anyways, you're not built for it.
Now if Norris could stay healthy and Sanderson takes that next step becoming the Leader on the Blue Line over Chabot then yeah , OTT could compete.
But Chabot and Chychrun are top pair guys on non playoff teams as they're goalie killers who let everyone by them when they fumble offensive rushes
OTT is trending the right way but moves the previous GM made kinda made it harder on OTT and delayed this process. Lucky for OTT as it gives Massive Soggard a bit more time.
He's who i'd be investing in and until then bolster your defense with youth at least if they're gonna be hanging the goalies out to dry
Goalies can talk to the youth and help them evolve easier then breaking the bad habits of established players

Thread: No big name
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>HighlightrEhlers</b></div><div>If McCarron and Smith are slow I doubt that Winnipeg would be looking that way if they're adding depth. After the series vs Colorado, it's clear the biggest problem in the forward group is lack of foot speed.

If it's what Winnipeg is looking for I think Nashville leaves with the best player and the player with the most upside, while Winnipeg gets cap space. It makes sense</div></div>

McCarron Skating is fine actually
He's good at gapping up on opponents
He's not gonna win a 50ft sprint but a 200ft maybe
He has slow acceleration but one he gets going he's got some speed to him.
Either way his game and all his goals come infront of the net via Tip in's,Garbage goals or Drive by on rebounds in transition
His Office is the 30ft in around the opposing goalie

This site's ratings of McCarron and Smith's skating is just on par with Logan Stanley at the bottom end and not as good as Vlardi on the high end.
Thats using this site's scouting metrics to rank all said players skating rating. Given Kupari and Iafflo are 3 to 5 points ahead of the best skater from NSH i could see your point But you'd get 3.1m in cap relief in the deal to acquire a player you couldnt before the deal. While you lose speed in this swap for 100s more hits a year
You gain that ability to acquire a player with speed for 3.1m or more depending on that cap you have left when others are signed.

Get Bigger, Tougher ,Faster and with more Depth without utilizing extra cap
Kupari might have more upside, Maybe but the cost of it really worth more then you'll lose in the exchange?
