Do LA fans actually believe that a 34 year old Jeff Carter with 2 more years of term at 5.3 million is worth anything at all? Pretty sure you'd be begging teams to take him, moving him will cost you unless you retain half his salary and even at that with 2 more years of term its risky.

If you want a 1st for 35yo $5.3Mx2+ Carter, you are retaining 50% and possibly adding more.

Kings are going to look close to this in 2 years:
Lafreniere/Kaliyev Kopitar Brown
Carter Turcotte Vilardi
Kempe Anderson-Dolan Grundstrom
Clifford Lizotte/Amadio Wagner
Bjornfot Doughty
(Open) Walker
Clague Martinez
Petersen
Quick/Campbell
Kings won't get much for Carter and might as well keep him to help guide the younger players with Brown, Kopi, Dewy, and Martinez.
I don't think Kings will get much for Martinez either and since he is a fan favorite, might as well keep him too.
Kovi and Toffoli will go. If players like Kaliyev, Turcotte, Vilardi, JAD, and Clague pan out the way we all think they will
then this is going to be a very short 'RELOAD' and at that point it would make more sense to go for roster players like
Krug, Petro, Sergachev, ect to fill that top 4 dman spot that we currently don't have any prospects expected to go there anytime soon.
I feel like Clague will take a long time to develop into a top 4 defenseman. He still as a lot of work ahead of him defensively.
Kings won't be trading away their top 100 picks for the next 5 years and will continue to get good prospects that way.

(WSH/VGK) - Stephenson for 2021 5th round pick
Stepho was a good penalty killer for us, and that's about it. He didn't bring a lot to the table offensively, but he was a little better to start the year. It's a move we needed to make financially, but Caps fans will always remember that he's a Stanley Cup champion and had some crucial plays in the playoffs.
Damn, every time someone from the 2018 Cup Champs goes to a new team, it'll get kinda sentimental for Caps fans. Even someone who played a minor role like Stephenson feels weird saying goodbye to just because of the Cup.

They arent even close to being comparable. Hischier also plays center, a position that is harder to play than winger making him alot more valuable at the same time</div></div>
They are completely comparable as 1oa, that was my only point. I don’t even understand why you are bringing up stats.
7 years is a long enough contract that even if he doesn’t improve he will at least be worth the money in the final year.
The contract is certainly a gamble.

I don’t think this is a good contract. Less money and a shorter term would be the best case. This still could turn out okay.</div></div>

He was drafted 1st overall two years ago and suddenly 7.25 is too steep of a contract.

Philadelphia Flyers signed Chris Stewart (1 Year / $753,757 AAV)
Stewie is a feel good story, but he was one of the worst possession forwards in the league in his previous stint here. A one-way is concerning, as it might mean they intend to keep him up with the big club; he should not be anything more than a 14th forward if you're desperate.

(OTT/NYR) - Ebert for Namestnikov

I don't see a point in this. Rangers get cap space and 4th, extra body was to keep contract spots even. Team that might be last trades pick for rental in October... ok guess i just don't get it</div></div>
They're probably banking on him getting some premiere ice time in the top six on the Sens, and then flip him at the TDL for a better pick/prospect.

San Jose desperately needs scorers. If he can score at a top nine rate still, which I think he can, it's a huge boost for them. They've started 0-4, and while I know it's early, points only get harder to earn the deeper we get into the season.
