Finishing the Tear Down
Davidson is probably talking to both Kane and Toews right now to see if they now want out of Chicago.......so he can trade them off.
This is a great and timli post on CapFriendly of what is most likely going to happen in Chicago.

Am I the only happy one here
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>blackhawksfan22</b></div><div>Look, I'm optimistic, that's my view here. I admitted we could have gotten more for DeBrincat, but I'm more interested in a top 3 pick personally next year, because look at the teams that were successful this year in the playoffs. Avs: Landeskog (2nd overall, 2011), (McKinnon 1st, 2013), Makar (4th 2017); Lightning: Hedman (2nd overall, 2009), Stamkos (1st, 2008) ; Oilers Nuge (1st 2011), Draistl (3rd, 2014) , McDavid (1st, 2015). You need a couple really high picks if you're going to be successful. That's not a debate. Is DeBrincat the number 1 player on a cup team? No. Maybe an elite top line wing to one, sure, but prioritize center and build out. You need an elite center, which trading DeBrincat might help achieve. Again, if Alex Formenton was added to the trade, is that really going to be the final touch to help us win the cup in 7 years? No. This was the right path. As for Mrazek, give me a 1st rounder for a 2nd instead of some late 2nd round pick in 2024 and a C+ level prospect. Was the pick smart? Maybe maybe not. Pronmann expected the guy to go in the first. This is the right path. If you wish we half assed the rebuild then so be it, this is my take.</div></div>
I understand all of that, but that return for Cat was not just a little light, it was awful. And as someone who has stupidly dedicated way too much time to reading up on and watching tons of these first round prospects, CHI's picks were not very good. Im not even very high on Nazar. Hes fine but there were plenty of better players available.

The problem is, full tear downs and tanking more often then not doesn't work. The NHL simply has too much parity, this isn't basketball. Also going to be hard to be the worst team in the league, likely they end up picking in the top 5 next year, which is great, but look at Dach. Look at Strome. It's always a crap shoot and the odds are working against the Hawks.
They are also way more then 2 years away. Think 5 to 6 years away, if most things go right for them (again, slim chance), they can compete for a cup. Prospects are going to take 4 to 5 seasons post draft to show up big in the NHL, if they do. Korchinski is projected as a 2nd line d man; which we have too many prospects as it is. Literally, you trade a elite 24 year old for a shot (no promise) at a 2nd line d-man. That's just embarrassing.
It's okay to embrace the suck, but we need someone at the helm that can navigate it very carefully and Davidson just showed with that Cat trade he can't.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>blackhawksfan22</b></div><div>Makes sense. Thank you Nightowl26 for your input. Would it help if I made it a top-10 protected 1st? Otherwise I'm sure there are other destinations for Kane.</div></div>
I don't think so, we have traded our 1st rounder the last two years in a row. At some point we have to keep our 1st rounder and draft some young talent. It would be different if we were talking about DeBrincat who is young and we can build around with him and Brazal. But not for a 34 yr old Kane (he turns 34 in Nov) and a UFA at the end of the year. Just doesn't make sense.

Isles not trading our 2023 1st rounder. Next year's draft is going to be one of the best in a while.

As someone who is a Sabres fan, I think it’s a good strategy for Chicago. But they need to follow through.
Kane & Toews gotta go. ‘23 class strong st the top. Hope for a top-3 pick and enough ammo that if you like Bedard you can go get him and make that jump.

Your close on Debrincat. Chicago reportedly declined a high first another first and a mid level prospect. You have the high first and another first and at least a mid prospect. Maybe add one more prospect to ouch Chicago over the edge. The Kane and grows one probably won’t happen though but it is there choice to stay or go

Not commenting on the value but this offer doesn't meet the hawks needs at all. The pick is gonna be very late. The prospects are good not great. And if they had any interest in necas they would just keep the much better version of necas that's only a year older. Not close if you ask me. Easily beaten by teams like new jersey and Ottawa.

What debrincat will cost
Whoever says Chicago turns this down needs a reality check. Necas is a young center with a great two way game Morrow is an A rated prospect, Suzuki is a B rated prospect and two more firsts are thrown in there. You’re getting the value of 5 first rounders. Take the hit with Gardner pretty sure he’s LTIR’d anyway

Chicago recently rejected a similar package, albeit I think Wahlstrom is a better prospect than whatever prospect was included in the offer. Whoever gets DeBrincat is going to have to pay a ridiculous amount.

Scott Powers DeBrincat Ottawa Trade
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>backpacker10</b></div><div>Sens fan here. I do that deal if there's an extension in place for DeBrincat. Chicago would be getting some very nice prospects. Greig will be a Brad Marchand-lite, JBD is projected to be a top 4 pairing defensive dman, and the 7OA is a bit of a wildcard, but recent drafts show some very talented NHLers who were taken at 7th (Quinn Hughes, Provorov, Scheifele, Nurse as examples). And you get a serviceable NHL goalie for a couple of seasons.
This would reboot the Blackhawks rebuild asap, while giving the Sens their coveted top 6 winger. What are Chicago fans thinking?</div></div>
What everyone else is saying. If the TBL 2nd round pick is put in there, that means the Hawks own 4 of the next 6 TBL first two round draft picks in the next 3 years lol.

I'm ok with a full tear down...as this suggests. I tend to agree with <a href="/users/Garak" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">@Garak</a> . If we're taking on Murray. He's owed a F ton of money. Us Capfriendly people don't pay the actual bills, but they do. I tend to think that TBL 2nd should be a conditional 1st with respect to Debrincat's production and drop the retention.

Its always hard to give up a homegrown guy who says hes willing to sit through the rebuild, 40 goal scorer, plays 200 feet, wont back down from a scrap, etc etc. I think the value is fair. But I dont know that I would trade him unless we got an absurd over pay, just as a personal preference. In my mind, chances are none of the guys we get are going to produce the way debrincat is, and if the goal is bedard, we're going to be a bottom 5 team regardless because we wont have fleury back. You also alienate a lot of fans, lose ticket revenue, less jerseys being bought, etc etc. Theres a lot to go into it. TLDR, I think the value is fair, but in trading Debrincat, I would want more than fair

I really don't see Murray as having any positive value between his health/injury/concussion issues and his cap hit. I think without Murray included, it is very close to getting Cat, if not spot on. But with Murray in there, there needs to be more coming back to CHI. On the OTT side, yes, there would definitely have to at least be some preliminary extension talks with Cat and his agent for them to pull the trigger. There is no need for them to give up that much without knowing he will be there long term.
No matter what, CHI's ask for Cat should be very high and stay that way. There is no need to get rid of him otherwise.
