Outside of what he may represent in the future to the Ducks as a player, trading him away with 50% retention in the same season we signed him to a 5x5 is a very public admittance that our GM made a huge mistake with one of his first signings, and guarantees no UFA of worth signs with the team as long as he is here.
Strome will be fine here, with our coach this season pulling line combinations out of a ticket tumbler he has had trouble settling in. Offering a future 1st and a bottom 6 player for us to retain over 10 million until the 2027 season on a top 6 player is outright insulting.</div></div>

I understand your point re Arizona, however Kassian, Ladd, nemeth ETC. this is what they do,

Again basing it off return for Yandle. Chychrun signed 1 year longer,

I think what you're missing is that retention doesn't hurt Arizona, it helps. Totally different than Anaheim, who could pivot and spend. No chance Arizona spends anything until at least they get out of Mullett Arena.

Understood, but they are almost at the point of needing to take best and final. If they hold him past this year it's diminishing returns. Rangers in essence buying cap space, not unlike Yandle deal years ago.
Deal was Yandle (with retention) for John Moore, Anthony Duclair 1 & 2. Zach jones will be better than John Moore. Kravstov is comparable in prospect level to where duclair was, plus a 1 & and a 2 and another young D in Hajek.

Not homer goggles. Asking seriously, what value does Strome bring to Anaheim right now?

Arizona is crazy with their asks. They may overplay the hand. Retention no big deal to Arizona since they'll never spend to cap.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>OldNYIfan</b></div><div>Anaheim surely says No. We just signed Ryan Strome; unless he tells us he wants to go elsewhere, we'll stand behind him. And we're for sure not going to sign him and then pay 50% of his salary not to have him on our team. What kind of optics would that present?
Adam Henrique is on the table for either of your 2023 firsts, with a 2023 third and 50% retention. If Blais is a cap dump to you, it won't cost you anything to include him.</div></div>
I hear ya, but Strome hasn't exactly lit it up for Anaheim, and at half the cap hit he's attractive to NYR to play with Panarin. Plus Anaheim will be a cap floor team for a few years. 1st round pick is for the retention. Could easily substitute someone else for Blais.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>OkMan</b></div><div>Saying Gauthier straight up for Jeannot is a good deal is laughable. Jeannot is having a down year on a team that can’t score goals for their life. Nobody with the Preds org wants to move Jeannot, so unless you overpay, they won’t. He was at a half ppg for the 1st hundred games for his career so this has been an outlier of a season for him. Hard to sell on someone in a down year like this</div></div>
Ok, so it's not a good deal for Gauthier straight up. But thinking Jeannot brings back a 1 is CRAZY!

I really like Jeannot as a 4th line winger, but the return you ask is laughable. I am not a Gauthier fan, but he has skills that will always tempt someone. If he does ever put it together, he could be a steal.

He's a pending UFA, whose goal scoring popped earlier. I could see upgrading the prospect, but doubt Van doing better than a 1st and a high end prospect.

Mcd former NYR captain could waive for there. Trochek and Trouba both American, could potentially want the no state income tax. Like an NBA trade kicker.

Van- Pure rental
Det- Sending Trouba home. They can afford him. He has some term and they need D. Larkin Pending UFA. Trouba a physical presence but overpaid/overrated I agree.
Cal- only doing this deal after Detroit one goes through.

Panarin Trade to St Louis
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Kap97</b></div><div>Why are the Rangers trading their franchise forward for two rentals?</div></div>
The Rangers would solve their 2C problem, and get Tarasenko back for Panarin. I wouldn't view as rentals as much as a hockey trade. After 1 year the Rangers would decide who they'd want to pay since they'd have tons of cap room and that coincides with the big raises due Lafreniere and Miller. St Louis saves some cap hit and get's more long term certainty. Tarasenko has a standing trade request as is. Plus we throw in a good young defenseman.

Why don't we want Blackwell? He'd be an upgrade to the bottom 6 and would be cheap. Same for Stralman. Those are depth moves.

Also, with Sanderson coming in and Holden extended. That leaves our left side looking like this next year:
Chabot
Sanderson
Holden
MDZ (Honorable mention to Brannstrom who is LHD but plays right side).
No room for Nemeth and makes no sense from an Ottawa perspective.</div></div>
I understand your point. Clearly they do not view DZ as an NHL D Man. If they do view Nemeth as one, and think he is an upgrade on Holden then they may be willing to take on the extra 500k. Not like Holden isn't movable for a team looking for depth too. It's not a crazy proposal, just depends where Ottawa Front office ranks DZ, Nemeth and Holden.
