Draft picks are overrated on this site. If they're not in the top-15 there is a very, very slim chance we get anyone near the level of Tarasenko, and even then, it would take 3+ yrs to develop those guys. The Blues aren't going to trade Tarasenko for some lottery tickets and expect to be better, and they're not going to rebuild. But let's just say they did decide to blow things up: I think your comment in the description is more realistic - the return would start around 2 of Dobson/Wilde/Wahlstrom and add some picks from there. Otherwise we just keep our guy - it's not like he's too old or on an expiring contract.

It would be crazy to trade Tarasenko. It would be even crazier to do it for 3 unknowns, a goalie that might be slightly better than Allen, and center with a ceiling in the middle 6. I don't know why you say we couldn't afford Tarasenko and Tavares, we could (<a href="https://www.capfriendly.com/armchair-gm/team/612892">https://www.capfriendly.com/armchair-gm/team/612892</a>) edit: I made that mock before Bo's surgery and I bought him out; if we were that close to the cap, we could simply not sign Stastny. Tons of teams have more money tied up in two players... you don't trade superstars to save money, you trade literally anyone else. And yeah, the locker room might be a mess right now, but who says Tarasenko is the problem? Or, who says he needs to be a leader? He's out there to score goals, there are plenty of other guys in that room that don't seem to embrace a team effort. This is one of the weakest offensive teams ever put together and Tarasenko has still managed 56 pts and should hit 30 goals...

I'd gladly pay assets to move Sobotka and Berglund than lose one of the greatest goal scorers Blues fans will ever have the pleasure of watching. It's one bad season; I can't believe how many people are giving up on Tarasenko. It's sad.

I wish it was fixable by just shaking up the lines but we're gonna have to call up some reserves to send a message at this point. No roster limit = perfect time to bench a group of underperformers. We're too thin on defense due to injuries to Edmundson and Bortuzzo, so that group is pretty safe. But at forward, veterans like Berglund, Sobotka, Jaskin*, Steen* (*my opinion, not Yeo's) need to take a seat.

And at goalie, Allen just flat out sucks right now. It might be an awful situation to bring Husso into, but he's playing lights out right now and there's a chance that the players in front of him might at least try not to hang the poor kid out to dry like they've been doing to Allen and Hutton.

I can't imagine any scenario where STL takes Ryan, or TBL or any other well constructed contender - If OTT is doing that, anchoring the value of their biggest asset and reducing the possible suitors, then this will be case study for terrible negotiation.

But yeah this trade doesn't make any sense for the Blues - it wouldn't be fun watching how either EK or Pietro handle a big cut in ice time, because one would get it.
