Skinner
I think JVR is going to get overpaid, and is 3 years older than Skinner.

Also cap will be higher and Djoos won't cost that much most likely.</div></div>
After trading Grubauer I find it extremely unlikely they would entertain trading Holtby. The cap will rise, and he will probably get a $2 million bump in AAV.

Mario hughes pens 24
Why would they ever make that deal for Kessel? Especially since it only clears up $1.5 million. Also I do not see Carolina taking that deal for Skinner because it sends too much money their way, and Paul Martin may actually be a downgrade from Hunwick at this point of his career.

Penguins Active Free Agency
I do not see them signing another defenseman to a $4million+ cap hit, and I think they would prefer to move Sheary instead of Hagelin.

Zero chance JVR signs that contract. He will probably be able to get $7 million for 7 years, and I do not think the pens have any interest in locking up a 30 year old player for that type of term.

Jeff Skinner
The only way the pens would be able to get Skinner is if they offered up Brassard, because Carolina desperately needs centers now, but GMJR worked way too hard last year to strengthen their center depth to give it away for a winger who will most likely be out of the pens price range next year when he becomes a UFA.

Pens
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>pharrow</b></div><div>I agree with the first part of what you said. But I think the coaching staff would disagree on the O-C line. Cole was in the box constantly. They ended up with Chad R. playing the right, because it was the closest thing they had that made any sense. As pitiful as that was.</div></div>
Im not trying to talking that pairing up, but it was the best of what they had last season, and I really do not want to see Ruhwedel in our full time lineup again. I really like him as a 7th Dman, but that is the biggest weakspot on the roster right now.

Pens
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>pharrow</b></div><div>I think trying to say O is on the save level of player as Hainsey or as mobile as Daley is a stretch. Also the Cole Oleksiak lineup did not end up working out well. I believe O played on the left side and Cole did nothing but collect penalties. That's why they traded him.
Hainsey is a very under rated player. I think you saw that this year. His leaving hurt. He went to be a number 1 pairing in Toronto. They simply aren't the same level of player. To get the most out of O you have to put him on the Left. Otherwise you are simply working against the grain.</div></div>
I see them keeping Oleksiak on the left, and none of the top 4 guys will be moved, so it is all up to finding a payer who can play on the right side of their bottom pairing, and I agree it should preferably be a right shot, but it is not necessarily a requirement. Also the team was playing its best hockey this season when Oleksiak-Cole was the bottom pairing, and once they had to put Hunwick into the lineup they immediately gave up 8 goals to the Bruins, and I think Hunwick was a -5.

I think you're undervaluing O'Reilly, and there is no way Ottawa retains salary because because of Melnyk.

Pens had 2 pairings of both LD in their 2017 cup run. Dumolin-Hainsey and Maatta-Daley. Also Oleksiak-Cole was playing very well before Cole was traded.

4 - Kessel Trades I just thought of
The preferred deal IMO is with Nashville for Ellis, especially because it would significantly improve the defense and allow them to move Letang next summer, but I think Nashville would want a one for one.

Kessel to Nashville
I really like the idea of trading for Ellis, because it would set the Pens up to trade Letang next year, but I find it hard to believe GMJR would give away Jarry just to get rid of Hunwick's contract or the Pens retaining Sheary's salary.

All the RFA's and UFA's are underpaid, minus Kunitz, and this lineup would be over the cap if they were paid what they will ultimately get.

New Look
They've said they want a culture change, and I think that would be the type of thing that would make them overpay for 2-time Stanley Cup champions. They also are not very far off from making the playoffs, so I don't think they are going to go into a full rebuild, and Maatta is only 3 years older than Hanifin.
