Pens have like 59 bucks in cap space. Can't do that. Has to be dollar for dollar.

Just claim Smith. The Pens don't need another LD. That's why Smith was waived.

Where do they finish
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>csick</b></div><div>You have the Atlantic all wrong. Buffalo and Ottawa have def closed the gap on Florida, Tampa and Boston may possibly pass them</div></div>
That depends entirely on Korpi and UPL/Comrie having great seasons. I think they have the skaters to compete, but the other Atlantic teams have some quality goaltending. Boston could be the easiest to pass up if Ullmark comes back down to earth this season.

He's on waivers lol. He did not look good in the first couple preseason games.

Early Camp Thoughts
I really haven't been impressed with Nieto. Kind of wish they would just give Puustinen a month on the roster to see what he is made of. His passing ability and creativity would be really helpful sparking some offense in the bottom 6.

Would have definitely done this if the Pens were sending out some salary, but they can't fit this under the cap if they plan to re-sign Guentzel.

Pysyk is already injured. Jeff Carter better not be getting 2nd line minutes. He barely should get 4th line minutes.

Oh that makes sense. I don't have high hopes for Smith anyway. That was a really bad trade.

Why would Guentzel sign that cheap and that short to go somewhere else? If he leaves Pittsburgh it would be for a big payday.

Joseph and waivers
The pens have no reason to waive Smith. He is cheap enough and versatile enough to keep up. They don't have a ton of competition for that 7th D spot.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Marcsnack</b></div><div>Interesting. I feel like Nieto and Acciari are more suited for the 4th line, and Nylander and Puusty could work on the 3rd. DOC isnt really a C, but he wasnt awful last season. Maybe they transition him to a C.</div></div>
I feel like we don't have a true 3rd or 4th line. It's just the top 6 and bottom 6 so I wasn't focused on traditional roles. DOC came into Wilkes as a center, was their top center when he was down there. Sully transitioned him to wing, but does play him at center when we are short. I like DOC better at center for roster flexibility, but doubt it happens.

The pens will likely have the swedes play together on D with Letang and Graves being the other 1a/1b pairing. Even with Guentzel hurt Sullivan has said he likes the potential of Malkin and Smith, so I expect to see them get a lot of time in camp to get to know each other.

Pens Fans Dream Team of all Old Decling Players - Ill Never understand it
The 15-16 roster had just 4 regulars who were 25 and younger. Winning in the playoffs takes ridiculous goaltending and a few guys getting red hot at the perfect time. There is no obsession with getting old players, it's getting good players.

Nieto & Johnsson will be in the lineup and the Pens will have $220k in space to start the season. Timmins has no value. If anyone wanted Jarne or Timmins they’d have already been dealt.</div></div>
Nieto was a day one signing, he already has his roster spot just like Acciari and Eller. DOC will have a spot too unless someone really shines in camp. There are two open spots for the likes of Nylander, Carter, Johnsson, Pitlick, even Puustinen to compete for.
