To each their own on that one I guess haha.
Yeah haha - can always count on Sorokin, Vas, and Shesterkin. I'd add Helle and Saros in there too, Maybe even Ullmark. Outside of them there's always some type of risk. Personally I'd just try to mitigate it as much as possible and play the best odds.

Wouldn't say zero leverage. He's a really good player. If Tampa is forced to trade him, pretty sure they'll have multiple offers to choose from. There's also a chance he takes a one year, team friendly deal for like $3m and waits til the cap goes up next year to cash in.

I have no issues with Puustinen being where he is. I would have one of Puustinen or Nylander in the top 6. The Zucker/Malkin/Nylander line looked really good in the brief time they were together last season. I think a young guy should be thrown up there to give better depth to the forward group.
I know I've given my Vejmelka opinion a lot on this site haha - it's definitely a giant gamble. But I didn't want to nitpick too much. You gave up very little for him though and I would assume Varlamov would start anyways. It's really a shame about that Carter contract. If you could spend that money on a goalie we would be in such a good spot haha

About Puustinen- I actually think he’d thrive on the 2nd line. I feel putting him in a bottom 6 role would hinder his development and I choose Puustinen over Nylander to be on the 2nd line. It wouldn’t be smart to have them both on the 3rd line imo.

I think Puustinen is better than Nylander. But in that case I would get a 2nd line caliber player for the 3rd line. Or move Rust to 3rd line. Completely fine with Puustinen in top 6 but think we need to have someone else like Bertuzzi in addition who could play any line I think he could thrive there but I wouldn't completely plan around that happening if that makes sense.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>brgh4life</b></div><div>Brodie from Toronto could come cheap. He's a vet on an expiring deal with a 5 mill contract. I imagine Toronto would value the space more than the return. He could be a defensive rock for either Letang or Petry. Grzelcyk is a good option too. I think Bruins fans are anticipating a much bigger return than he will actually get, but he can easily slot into the 2nd pair and be a good option.</div></div>
I was going to bring up Grzelyck but you beat me to it. I think he could even be a good top pair D with Letang. But he could also play 2nd pair. And I agree, I don't think he will be too expensive, probably could get him for 2024 2nd and another small piece.

Given what Gavrikov and Severson just got paid this is the best way to get an impact defender while still having money to address the bottom 6. I also consider using the first for a high end winger. I agree. I think trading for a goalie is a bad bad idea. Severson contract is absolutely absurd. Do you have any ideas on other D we could trade for?

Ducks Offseason Predictions
Back in April, Hallander signed a four-season contract with his home club in Sweden.
I can see us trading Comtois for Smith.
I can't see Pittsburgh paying $25.6 million for four seasons of goaltending from a veteran worth only a future second, inasmuch as the Penguins could probably get Lukas Dostal or Daniel Vladar for that same second and save themselves $22 million or so.

Make a Run
I would do all of those in a heartbeat, Schmaltz is a capable low end 1C, would be the best 3C in the league (if that's where we play him), and Vej is by far the best non star goalie available. Ik Garland was rumored to be a cap dump a few weeks ago, but he's absolutely worth a 2nd, he's a legit top 6 F, and I'd take whatever for DeSmith once we get other Gs in just to get his cap out

Graves and Gavrikov are good choices as well. I'm probably in the minority by thinking POJ and Smith are fine down the left side. POJ proved himself as a 2nd pair guy last year - and I'd be surprised if Smith can't hold his own with Rutta on a 3rd pair.
I'm open to either option. I have no issues with them signing another LHD - I just hope they fix the 3rd line first. That's priority numero uno for me

I definitely agree about Garland. Getting him at 4mil or under would be a good deal. I would hope maybe they could do it without giving up Smith though - but that's fine if not.
If they sign Orlov, my guess is he plays 2nd pair with Petry. Orlov/Letang might be to offense/puck moving heavy - might want to split them up. That would be a great top 2 pairings though

However, I disagree with you on Compher, I think he can be a solid 3rd line center for us. In terms of goalies, I think Raanta is better then DeSmith and Korpisalo is similar to Jarry. We need a more consistent goalie then Jarry. I am fine with resigning Jarry instead but I personally dont think we can bring back both Jarry and DeSmith. Someone needs to go. We'll see tho, who knows what Dubas will do if he is hired. Could see him making alot of changes since he isnt afraid to.</div></div>
Paying a guy like Compher 5 million per year after having an outlier season is a bad bad idea. Let someone else overpay him. He played second line center on that Avs team this year, when taking that into account his numbers were pretty meh. I agree that the goaltending needs a shake up. I just don’t think a tandem of Korpisalo and Raanta is the answer.

So the total over the next 3 years is 24.5 million due to Schmaltz or my proposal of $11 million to Granlund with pick 14 and a 1st round selection from last year.</div></div>

Carter is here unfortunately. You have a better chance of winning the lottery than him leaving. Granlund is an easy buyout candidate. The new GM has no ties to that trade so shouldn't feel compelled to keep him
