As a Leafs fan, please look at Watson has done comparded to some of the lefas players.
He would not be a bad option, and would agian add osme grit and toughness, as Lefas do play better when that is in the lineup.

Agreed. But take out Tolvanen, and suddenly it makes sense for Nashville. They get a guy who's almost as good, two years younger, with two more years of term on his contract, plus a 2nd and another guy who maybe could play for them now. They still probably keep Forsberg, because he's been one of their best forwards for a while, now, and their fans like him, but if they wanted to shake things up, Nylander and a 2nd isn't a bad starting point.

Vesey 21 games 2g 2a (played with JT, Willy, Matthews, Marner)
Watson 21 games 3g 4a (played with nobody’s)
Watson would be an upgrade over Jimmy

Leafs trade
Simmonds would be a nice add for the leafs, but losing Kapanen in the process seems like more a lateral move and a less controllable asset.
I’d think if the leafs packaged up Liljegren and Kapanen they could get a more impactful haul.

Certainly a personal preference, but I really don't like the Kadri deal. What you're getting out of Kadri at his price tag is tremendous value. I'd honestly sooner trade Nylander. Don't need $7m on the thrid line C.

Laine
Love Laine but this makes 0 sense for everyone. Winnipeg is as likely to deal Laine as Toronto is Marner. They take a pass on that deal
Toronto is going to have to get creative to get all their RFA's signed with Nylander at close to $7m....how much more does Laine cost?

Yikes. Sorry Trevor...both those deals are no go's.
I think you could definitely land a 3rd for Marleau...but I don't see a scenario where he waives his NTC. Even to go back to San Jose
Parayko is worth a whole lot more than that package

The contracts are reasonable! very reasonable. I was getting ready to give you the ole 5 stars for taht because it's so rare these days.
Then I saw the trades. Dear lord. Want Parayko? he costs marner. Nylander won't even get it done.
Marleau isn't going anywhere.

Could be tough getting Kapanen for that low but I'd love it if they did.
That D scares the crap out of me though. haha</div></div>
Agree with everything you've mentioned.

What cap crunch
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>mattyb929</b></div><div>Kapanen is on pace for 20+ goals this year, he's taking 2.5m?</div></div>
I think so....on a short term deal. He knows funds won't be there until Marleau is off the books so I can see him taking a nice raise for 1-2 years while trying to solidify himself as a LW alongside Matthews and Nylander. Might price himself off the leafs at that point but Brown took $2.1 off of 20 goals so it's not unprecedented.

Of course not, everyone knows he is gone next season... we already have his replacement, dermott. Why would be put gardiner on the third pair and pay him 6-7m???

Its possible that Kapanen prices himself out of the team, but in that scenario there's no way he only gets a 5th in return.

You’re underpaying Matthews & Marner by a considerable amount. Tavares signed for cheaper with Toronto, and there is no chance that Matthews gets less money than JT. Lindholm & Ennis could also probably get slightly more.

To all Lea fans. <strong>For all that is good and Holy, Please stop trading Marleau</strong>. He has a NMC and wants a cup or two. He is not waving and will not be asked to wave his NMC.
Even if he did, San Jose is not giving up anything of substance for him, he is a cap dump for you and you will have to pay dearly to get it.

Trying to make it work with Willy staying
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>brokos73</b></div><div>I think that depth plays a huge roll in winning a cup. Personally I'd rather have Kapanen, Johnsson and a legitimate top 4 right shot Dman than Nylander. But I definitely understand what you're saying and i do agree that they will need positive contributions from some Marlies moving forward. But that D needs help, especially someone to play with Rielly.</div></div>
Rielly needs a better partner. That is the only thing that I see as a potential need. With that said, TO without a doubt has a stud #1 d in Rielly. They don't need another stud #1, sure they'd like one, but the cost of that is astronomical. That would cost so much that it doesn't make sense to obtain it. It costs more than its worth. It makes way more sense to just find better value elsewhere. I think with how the team is structured now, adding someone like Chris Tanev would be a far better plan. 1) He'd cost a tenth of the assets to obtain him 2) there is a good likelihood that TO could get Van to retain some salary 3) He is actually what TO needs, a right handed defenceman who can play big minutes, kill penalties and let Rielly do what he does best which is dominate with his skating and vision.
I understand why Blues fans want something like this, it would help them reboot and retool to move forward relatively quickly. But from a TO perspective, its a short sighted trade that only can be called a success if they win the cup once in the next 2 years. If they fail to do that, then it was an expensive waste of assets.
