I think so too, but I'm also in the win now window mode. Not certain our top players stick around much longer and Tavares not getting younger. If there was ever a time to say YOLO, its now.

Let the icon walk away on his own terms if KD can't get true value.</div></div>
No where did i say hes terrible. Actually your team is terrible, and Kane has no motivation to play there, it seems. However, his value is at an all time low and if you think you will be getting a 1st for him, keep dreaming. Unless a stupid team like Edmonton pays up

“If the value’s not met, then you value the player more than anyone else,” Davidson said. “So we’re happy with the players that are here. We value them more than other teams around the league, clearly. We’re happy they’re still with the Blackhawks.” ~Kyle Davidson</div></div>
Patrick Kanes value in 2023 is not a 1st round pick, just because you say you want a 1st round pick. Kane is having a down year and his value has been diminished, not to mention the reported hip issue, which sound like the reason NYR backed out. It would be a complete mismanagement of assets not to cash in on Kane. Toronto learned the hard way by letting JVR walk for nothing

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Garak</b></div><div>Even if a team like TOR has most of the leverage, the bottom line is still absolutely a 1st and a prospect. If they can't do a 1st, the prospect better be pretty damn good and even then it would probably take a little more. And that is just as a bare minimum. Davidson will not move anyone if the minimum ask isn't met. The speculated price of a prospect and a 1st IS THE MINIMUM. Would you go to the grocery store and demand that the cashier let you use the same coupon twice on a single purchase? Because that is essentially what you are doing. All of these variables are already factored into the minimum price for Kane. His price isn't getting lower.</div></div>
Hes a pending UFA and Toronto has already stated they wont be paying a 1st for a pure rental. If youre in Davidsons shoes, you can either take this 3rd round pick and Nick Robertson or risk ending up losing him for nothing

I can see a world where he turns into a beast, playing with Auston Matthews. I do believe having the chance to play with Auston and for a contender would give him that motivation

I think we all want Meier on the Leafs, but don't see how we can outbid New Jersey or teams with better prospect pools. Kane might just be the next best option and cheaper to acquire

Trade Theory
I agree, Patrick Kane has the leverage with his NMC. I'd argue that if youre adding Robertson you should be able to get Lafferty as well. Not sure people realize the player holds all the cards. The team (Chicago) doesnt hold the leverage. If the player says I'm only going to Toronto, what else can the team do.

Patrick Kane holds all the cards in this situation, with his NMC. He decides where he wants to go, so the team won't hold the leverage. Wouldnt be surprised if the return is like a 2nd and mid prospect, and possibly a 4th to a 3rd party team for double retention

Keeping Timo Redux 4
What about the year after when it comes time to re-sign 34 and 88?
Do you think Timo would even accept that offer, when his QO is $10M and could just get it from another team?
Don't get me wrong, I am on the Timo bandwagon and would trade for even just one playoff run if it helps take us all the way, i just don't see how it fits in our future plans, without dismantling the big 4. Maybe a Rielly trade in the future.

William Nylander has one of the best contracts in hockey, too. Although he does not get the love and appreciation that he deserves here in Toronto, he definitely has a great contract for his production. Rasmus Sandin is going to be a very good player as well.

Put Mason Marchment in the top 12, instead of Aberg then. Maybe I overpaid for DeMelo and don't really need to add in Gauthier, but I tried to make the cap work there. But ideally, I would like to see the leafs trade with New Jersey.
