my ideal offseason

Quoting: Matt1567

If Dubois only wants to sign in Montreal, it kinda is Montreal or nothing. Other teams aren't giving up full value for a rental, because if he won't consdier resigning then why would they give up assets for just one year, hoping he's good but knowing that he's gone regardless or what happens. Sure I lowballed the jets in that trade but a 2nd/3rd line center who's struggled in Montreal but was pretty good for Arizona, and a 2nd rounder for a guy that wants out isn't the worst thing ever.

He has never stated he'll only sign in mtl. That's something the media took and ran with. Do you understand what a rental is? Why did Toronto give up a 1st 2nd and prospect for ror and achari? To make their team better and win the cup. To say a team would pay less because he may not stay makes no sense as that's the case for most rentals to begin with. It actually is one of the worst deals I've seen as the Colorado pick is likely late 50s not even this year and Dvorak is not a 2c and has a major injury this season. Idc what Dvorak did in Arizona because that's not the player he is now, like do you want wheeler previous 90 plus point scorer a few years back? No? Yeah because players change in value all the time so no Dvorak has little to no value. Try more like adding Florida's 1st and kidney to this deal and it's about right. If not don't pay and run that risk that where more teams will inquire on him and put in a pitch to keep him. This offer is a severe underpayment!

This deadline makes me sick. I have no idea what is going on. Friedman reported that James van Riemsdyk could have been had for a third round pick. I have no idea what to think.

I dunno, I feel like that's overpaying at this point. He's been on the market for 18 months, at some point AZ has to lower the cost.

I won't argue with the top 5 but my second 5 would be Kulikov, Regenda, Gibson, Lundestrom and Vatrano (in some order).

Opening night
Forwards: I have the same names but I'd flip Maenalanen and Toninato, as Bowness has been running a 4th line of Maenalanen-Gustafsson-Gagner for about a week now in practice (according to Scott Billeck). I agree that Toninato has had a better camp than Harkins and beats him out for a starting role. Barron would be nice, but missing so much camp and being waivers exempt means that the Moose is his likely landing spot for now (like you have him).
Defense: I agree that the choice is between Heinola (better player) and Samberg (better roster fit), with the loser going to the Moose which is what you have.
Scratches: Stanley, Kovacevic, Harkins
Cuts - waivers exempt: Lambert, Barron, Heinola or Samberg
Cuts - waivers:Capobianco, Berdin

Too bad, that Dubois wasn’t keen on Winnipeg, could be a split wheelers money between scheifele/Dubois/helly and hopefully keep building. Top 6 looking a bunch better if there is a couple rookie of the year candidates in the next two seasons. Still a need for more depth, but some steps in the right direction.

Barron is waivers exempt and should be sent down to play big minutes. Just keep Toni up as the PB guy with Harkins. I agree Heinola should get the opportunity over Samberg and Stanley, especially with how Bowness wants his D to play. But like Bones said today, it’ll come down to the last couple games, guys will play their way off the team, or play their way onto the team.
Lambert is a guy who probably gets sent down, but is a call up if there’s a top 6 injury. He’ll likely get his 9 games at the end of the year. Unless Bowness really likes what he sees.

I’m not expecting the world in a return. I just want the return to make sense lol. The jets need to figure out their direction going forward before making any trades. Which likely means they wait till the TDL to see where they are at. I’d they are out of playoff it’ll be sell for picks and prospects or younger players. If they’re making a stab at the playoffs they will keep Dubois and re-assess next year.

There’s no way you can convince that many free agents to sign here. It would be cool but we still have to keep in mind that this is Winnipeg.

best possible line combinations
David Gustafsson should play over toninato on that 4th line. Jets have a real issue with forward depth and log jam at LD. They cannot afford to keep Heinola in the AHL any longer, he is ready and should not be held back.
Jets have put themselves in a tough spot and I’m not sure how Chevy will get out of it.

Samberg realistically could play 2nd pair this year with pionk. But the jets do have a major issue with a log jam at D. They are going to lose people on waivers (kovacevic, Gawanke) and need to clear some space. I’d make this deal for sure though, but Lou says no.

I do wonder if they don't end up signing a guy or two yet, will probably still be some serviceable players looking for jobs in another couple weeks, then they'll come crawling to Chevy.. lol

predicting team Sweden at the 2023 WJC
As a Sens fan I'd be so happy if Johansson and Nordberg both made it. Johansson is one of my favourite Sens prospects, I really like his hands and his skating looks NHL level too. I don't know much about Nordberg yet tbh, but I see why Ottawa wanted him, he's got that big NHL frame and he can skate well with it.
Edit: didn't even notice Kevin Reidler lol. Know even less about him than Nordberg, but more goalie prospects is better and he is a very large one. Ottawa has had luck over the years with Swedish goalies too (Lehner, Forsberg, Nilsson).
