Toronto Maple Leafs signed Trevor Moore (2 Years / $775,000 AAV)
This is basically what I have been using in my agm’s. Dubas is doing a great job of signing one way contracts to keep players cheap for next season. Works great for both sides. Pretty much garuntees a roster spot for Moore next season and gives him two years to prove himself. Almost identical to the Rosen contract.

An $81M Salary Cap Would Do It

Yes, that's the plan. My object was to upgrade the defense beyond having three or four rookies there, which is what I always see. Or trading Zaitsev, too, or Nylander.

Vegas Golden Knights signed William Karlsson (1 Year / $5,250,000 AAV)
This case is so interesting and not so common considering his breakout season.
I think this is a good contract because no one can predict how it's going to play out this year for Karlsson.
He got a nice 5M$ reward for his 43 goals, but it's going to impact on his next deal if he doesn't replicate those numbers.
He's still RFA next summer, so good deal for both parties.

Pu fits in well with Carolina's current young guns like Svechnikov and Necas. They built their defense first, now they're compiling forward talent.

Skinner must be determined to try the open market, otherwise you'd think they would have an extension in place prior to trading him. This is also likely the reason the return was less than Canes fans expected.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>BeastModeUnknown</b></div><div>Playoff Spot Contenders.</div></div>
with three good forwards, average goaltending, and their best dman as a rookie? Idk if I'd say Skinner is going to push them into the playoffs. We'll see though. This looks more like setting up for the future rather than a "contend/win-now" move. They probably hope to get a 26-year-old winger locked up before he goes to market and they have to compete with the rest of the league for his services.

Ok, this trade makes Buffalo much better. First of all, why Carolina traded Skinner ? They will not make the playoffs once again because of an awful trade. They seemed to be getting better, and now it's bad all over again in Carolina. Trading a 200 goal scorer for three round pick and a prospect. Not the worst trade you can do, but the best thing was to stay put. Watch him have 30 goals with Jack Eichel. At least, Botterill is trading for good linemates for Eichel and Middlestadt. Great redemption Buffalo !!!

BOYS! Stop saying move Brown, please. He is a Toronto kid, took a home town discount, heart and soul guy, doesn't quit, always healthy, scores goals, kills penalties and has enough skill to play with elite talent. His ceiling is so high you cant even see it. So offer Hyman over him, or even Kappi. Just not my Brown!

They are better comparables than Kane
Who I think was an overpay
We'll see soon enough</div></div>
I agree on both points but Ehlers and Pasternak were signed in 2017, Mathews and Marner will be two years out from that and Nylander will get a slight increase because of inflation. Even Mcdavids contract will be two years ago by the time Mathews signs, that all leads to increased salaries and new bars being set. Don’t know if any of these three would be big enough egos to enforce setting that bar and likely do get discounts.
But as you said, wait and see.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>buxvet</b></div><div>Well you quoted my comment, this isn't my armchair team
I was just commenting on what I thought the contracts would look like
And I agree about the D
Of course I would consider trading Nylander for help on D if the right deal came along
And upgrade Gardiner too, great Offensively, horrid defensively
His 50 points are great but not when your constant turnovers turn into goals for the other team</div></div>
The whole object of the exercise was NOT to trade any of the top 10 forwards, i.e., to see what sort of defense could be constructed with a budget of $16M (assuming a cap of $81M) and assuming that I had to go with Rielly's $5M and Zaitsev's $4.5M.

I think Matthews get the same deal Tavares got except with the 8th year
They may stagger Marner and Nylander so the don't come due again at the same time
Like Matthews 8 years, Marner 6-7 years, Nylander 5 years</div></div>
Thanks, Buxvet!

No-Trade Leafs 2019/20 - We Can, and we Will.
I know it only takes one silly GM to make a pitch, but 6.5m for Gardiner....Holy overpayment. No cap, two short on the roster and Holl as a starting Dman, I don't think it works cap wise at all for the Leafs.
