(NSH/EDM) - Ekholm and 6th for Barrie, Schaefer, 1st and 4th
Considering horw well Barrie has played this year, this trade doesn't make sense for the Oiler's.

Friedman reports
Feels weird sending back Barrie. The right side was already a weakness and you go and trade away your best right handed dman? I thought having a top pair of Ekholm-Barrie and a second pair of Nurse-Ceci made the team much better but now we still are going to end up with Nurse-Ceci as our top pair and probably Ekholm-Bouchard as the second pair, which feels about the same as what we were running.

Finding the right Balance
The Columbus trade just makes Edmonton worse. Barrie has been great value on the backend this season and Holloway has been steadily improving as the season progresses. Roslovic might be better right now but not sure I feel the same way by the end of the year.

I think Puljujarvi either gets moved or the team lets him sit until he signs a contract he shouldn't sign.

Philadelphia Flyers signed Cooper Marody (2 Years / $762,500 AAV)
For whatever reason the Oilers hated Marody. He did everything the team wanted him to do, succeeded well beyond what was asked and then thrown to the curb for absolutely no reason. I hope he gets an opportunity in Philly, he deserves it.
Also he's a hell of a singer if you weren't aware.

Still over the cap (with a full 23 man roster) after giving very optimistic contracts to the RFA trio. I think a move will need to be made (Foegele or Puljujarvi most likely) just to get the squad cap compliant.
Back end is looking decent and the forward depth is looking strong. I think we've upgraded in goal and should be better than last year.

An Impeccable Offseason
Petrov and a 1st for Kane is painful to read. Otherwise this looks pretty reasonable for next season. That Nurse cap hit is roster crushing and will take an enormous effort to overcome to keep the club competitive.

goalies
I like how even signing all these players for less than they are going to get, we are still over the cap and a player short. Unfortunately I just don't see how Yamamoto and Puljujarvi are going to sign for anything less than what Foegele was given, so add another $1M on each of those contract. Husso is going to be very sought after in free agency and I don't see him signing for less than $5M, so add another $2M to that contract.
It's very unfortunate that Ken Holland doesn't understand what a salary cap is.

Neal for Keith is a massive loss for the Oilers. You can swapping two terrible contract but Neal can be bought out for some savings while Keith is buyout proof. Chicago fans are delusional if they think Keith for Neal is a bad deal for them.

Making The Edmonton Football Team Great Again
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>drivet</b></div><div>That Debrusk trade is tough, he is definitely worth a 2nd, but a 1st would be so much. It all depends on how he plays the rest of these playoffs. I know Ken Holland wants to keep Mike Smith, but I do like the move for Georgiev, but I think you might have to give up a bit more, like a low-level prospect or a 5/6th round pick. I think RNH wants more money than that and Coleman's is an overpayment. I do think this is overall better than anything Ken Holland will do though. Good job!</div></div>
A 1st for DeBrusk seems like a massive overpay after the season he just had.
I could see teams run the price up on Coleman, maybe not to $5M but I bet he gets close.

Dont think about anything past next season
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>BeterChiarelli</b></div><div>This entire AGM is a farce: most everything expires next year. Is the plan to just cycle out a new roster every season? Why are Larsson, RNH, and Ullmark taking one year deals in the first place? No, they come with term, which makes any flexibility here moot.
I'll focus less on the RFAs given that they have less bargaining power, but what happens if the Yamamoto extension is only a two-year deal? Where's the money coming from now? The cap isn't set to rise for another two seasons and Edmonton has all of its chips in four players (very good ones at that).
Russell and a buried Turris account for half of the minimum cost of Bear and Nurse extensions. Edmonton no longer has the assets to dump Kassian outright, so assuming 50% retention, you can now only afford two of your defencemen. What about Puljujarvi? McLeod? Spare forwards? Replacement defenders or the inclusion of Broberg and Holloway to the main roster? Bonuses?
Looking at things in a one-year vacuum is peak lunacy. The league doesn't exist in individual annual segments. There are longer-term consequences of this trade being ignored here.</div></div>
The terms on the UFA/RFA's aren't important. They could be any term doesn't really effect things. You are right that none of those players would sign one year deals and honestly I just don't care what each term would end up being.
The Oiler's are already in cap hell without this trade and honestly they are in basically the same position with the trade. So who's better, James Neal and $4.75M in cap space or Jack Eichel? I take Eichel without hesitation. So really this trade comes down to Eichel for a pair of fringe prospects with upside and 4 high end draft picks, one of those picks to compensate for Buffalo taking Neal. If you want things to look better financially, don't resign RNH. That's $7M you can use for "bonuses".

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Nhl_oilers</b></div><div>Honestly... not a fan of it. I say we don’t rush him, because I don’t think he’s ready for the NHL. I would rather play one of Khaira, or Haas there, and play McLeod one more year in the AHL for more practice and to get better before making the NHL team.</div></div>
McLeod's potential is as a bottom 6 forward. I really don't see him playing in the NHL on the 4th line as rushing him since his ceiling is likely the third line. He had great production in Europe this fall, keeping pace with guys like Puljujarvi and Lavoie in a very good league. I think he'll get a good look in camp but still has to outplay guys like Haas, Khaira and Shore for a roster spot. He'll probably spend the season in the AHL but I don't think it's a stretch to think he's fully capable of contributing in the NHL right now.

RNH-Draisaitl-Yamamoto were so good last year, it's gonna be a real shame when Tippett refuses to play them together this season so that we can have a more "balanced" roster.
