This trade gives you 10.6 in cap space. Bouwmeester is more of a cap readability at this point.
Of course on this website everyone loses their minds

Also on the BUF trade. The Habs had a deal in place of O'Rielly for one of the NYI 1sts but fell through thanks to the draft players slipping. So why is Montreal now paying a 4th, 5th and the rights to a goalie who they pretty well no longer own.</div></div>
My assumption was the BJ 1st would be lower than the Islanders picks. Added some minor picks and a goalie Montreal has no interest in. Sabres could use a decent goalie who maybe can turn it around

Yamamoto will maybe a January call up at best or 100% beat out everyone (and no cause the wingers are that bad). Also Marody maybe ready then as well. If this is your projected opening day line up we are in trouble.
Plus I don't want Patches. We will not be able to resign him. Oilers have their likely future top 6 guys in Mcdavid, Leon, Nuge, JP , Yamamoto and Lucic (at least for the next 5 years). Maybe someone surprises but any winger brought in will simply bridge the gap.
Personally any UFA signed for more than 2+ years is a mistake at this point. Considering the RFAs we need to sign in 2-3 years
Your statement for Russell doesn't make sense when Sekera was there.

Oh ok. It's a bit better than. I think not all these guys pan out but I like where you're headed.
Personally I'd prefer to run Nuge Leon and Mcdavid in top 6. Strome looked good at 3C. Khaira can push him.
I also think the salaries are off for Nurse and Talbot
For 2020 I'd see line up as:
Nuge - McDavid - Yamamoto
Lucic - Leon - JP
Khaira - Strome - 3RW FA (maybe Aberg/ Rattie)
Caggiula - Marody - 4RW FA
Benson - Old Vet on cheap contract
Kelf - Larrson
Nurse - Buchard
LD FA - Bear
Benning (maybe traded for a forward or LD)
Same goalies

What are rumors and just your imagination?
Russell will not be bought out. He isn't the Oilers worst D man. Plus he could be traded.
Strome is qualified at 1yr @$3M why would he sign 2 yr @ $2.3M
You have your call ups in the AHL as regular players so when injuries happen your effed
This team might be worse than last year

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>JeffW</b></div><div>Normally I agree, I just defended my own salary choices stating that teams with rfa control will should and do use bridge deals before they pay their young players... however I said that the exception lay with teams like Edm and Buf, especially edm now that they've hired the league's worst GM... taylor hall, jordan eberle, leon draisaitl, connorMcDavid, RNH, all rfas straight out of their entry level deals getting top contracts not because of production (worst team every year) but because of what they meant to the team down the line</div></div>
Two contracts are from this current GM. You will see a precedent set for the top RFAs of a team get paid. As you will see with the leafs with Nylander and Marner and Matthew's. Drais and Mcdavid had set themselves apart from their peers when they signed their respective contracts. Nurse while improving every year, hasn't matched that level when compared to his draft year or players close by (example Ristolinan and Ekbland)

I thought part of the franchise fee related to revenue. My bad on that part. But ya unfortunately with trade wars across the board we may see the dollar drop... Hopefully not as my Oilers can use all the space they can get haha

Could be possible. Idk if the cap jumps that much. It only jumped 4.5M and that was with an owner paying $500M for a new team. I'm guessing 1-2 based on another low year. Maybe less based on the canadian dollar
So based on that cap space won't work plus why would Carrick sign for less than he makes this year?

A more Realistic team for the start of the year
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>palhal</b></div><div>With the signing of Green, I wonder where the Oilers are going to have any cap flexibility to sign their RFAs the following year. Even without Green, the Oilers seem to big cap issues.</div></div>
Ya Green it probably a push. I think Oilers cap issues are more short term than long term. Lucic isn't worth $6M but he isn't worth $2M either. He will bounce back and play a decent 2nd LW.
Russell has a tradeable contract the following year... He will have a limitedNTC and is lower salary will be appealing for the bargin teams.
Sekera will likely bounce back a bit as well. His injury wasn't good and he likely rushed back due to the Oilers initial play. All guys are likely 1-1.5 higher than they should but that's what you get for signing FAs. Oilers have some guys on the farm that will be filling in these roles the next year or two. Look at Bear, Jones, Yamamoto, Benson.

I think the value for Faulk is there. Carolina likely over values him and won't get every team to over pay in a trade (here's looking at you Calgary). Faulk is worth a second with maybe a have decent prospect added. I think the trade is good with the picks from Carolina dropped.

The Perry buy out hurts this team in three years. 6M+ for no one. Likely cripples resigning any roster players already shown.
