Ranking the Forwards at the Canada WJC Camp
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Xqb15a</b></div><div>Maybe just me but in the scrimmages I thought Byfield was invisible. Was impressed with Zary and Krebs.</div></div>
I agree on Byfield for sure. Krebs has looked particularly speedy, and while Zary has looked good, it may be a byproduct of playing with Dach and Tomasino. If someone like Poulin had line mates that good at camp, he'd be a first line lock. Rees has stood out too.

Foegele and Fleury both make much more than 800k. The only way Laine works on the canes cap wise is if we make the team worse by trading Hamilton.

Mock Beta 2 - 2020 1st round
I think the jets would prefer lundell over quinn. They are overloaded on the wing with goal scorers like Laine and Connor and they severely lack center depth. One of lundell or sanderson will most likely be available at 10 and I bet that the jets take one of them. The preds would then take quinn. Good mock though.

Totally agree on Perreault. I've watched a good bit of Sarnia this year because of Rees (canes prospect) and Perreault's game definitely seems translatable to the NHL. If the canes were picking 20th I would be all over him. He's honestly top 15 for me, especially if a team needs a goal scorer. Imagine if he was on a good team like the 67's, he'd be toe and toe with J Quinn.

It's also about the contract situation. Gaudreau is probably out the door in a couple years whereas Laine is an RFA and he's more likely to resign for a long term deal as he has his buddy Aho signed here for 5 years.

Ranking Canes prospects
Charlotte (or Chicago) is gonna be SCARY in a couple years.
Rees=Suzuki at OHL level, but Rees>Suzuki at NHL level. Rees gives me serious Brad Marchand vibes, and we've never had a player like that on the canes, except maybe Erik Cole.
I am very high on Jack Drury as I believe he can be Jordo's replacement in a few years. It's between him and Geekie.
Kochetkov is very promising, but I do not see him in the NHL for another 3-4 years, similar to Shesterkin. I like his game though but goalies take time.
I really hope bean makes the team next year so we can at least give him a chance at the NHL level, even if it means trading two of gardiner, skjei, or fleury this offseason.

Don't forget that Seattle's GM is Ron Francis, who happens to be the same person who drafted Bean. He's taking Bean over Gards any day.

3-way trade with PIT and DAL
From CAR's perspective, its not bad. The only problem is that we traded for trocheck because we need a 2C really badly, and Necas is not yet ready to take on that role. Also, that Murray contract is a bit of a risk for the canes, especially after the whole scott darling situation. That being said, goalies in recent history going to the canes have performed well (mrazek, reimer, cmac). Maybe if he signed a 2 year "prove yourself" deal the canes would accept. I do believe he COULD be a good fit though.

Ottawa Rumours on who they will draft
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Sebybbq</b></div><div>There no way they Ottawa past on Drysdale at number 4
They have some decent prospect on the right side of their defense with Bernard-Docker and Thomson but both of them have a limited ceiling. Bernard-Docker can be a Chris Phillips 2.0 and Thomson ( is a interesting prospect, got some offensive upside but very unlikely to become a elite defender. Drysdale is projected to be this outstanding 2 way defenseman. They can’t pass on him with the fourth pick.</div></div>
They take two elite forwards with their first two 1st rounders, but they can bring in a solid prospect on defense with their third first round pick. They also have FOUR second round picks to bring in defensemen.

Slavin should be in instead of Dumba, even though it's his off side. Lots of offensive defensemen so you'll need a guy like Slavin.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Leemer</b></div><div>Not Bad - Can you explain your high ranking of Will Cuylle - ranked 34th in NA skaters by Central Scouting. Just a size factor? He's had 2 years with Windsor and did not really improve from year 1 to year 2. Similarly Antonio Stranges - I don't understand his high ranking (56th in NA skaters - Luke Evangelista his team mate is ranked higher). Jean-Luc Foudy at 33 - No way - Justin Sourdif is ranked much better than him so the top of your 2nd round is not making much sense</div></div>
For me Cuylle just fits the Blues' style of play, so I think of him as a Tom Wilson sort of guy with a little less skill. I do agree that he doesn't have first round skill. Stranges is a Michigan guy (played for Little Caesers) and his skating ability definitely is eye-catching. His offensive production was definitely disappointing this season so I agree that its risky picking him that high, but I think the potential is there. Foudy just seemed like he complemented all of Ottawa's other picks as they used their other picks on Laffy, Byfield, Bordeleau, Ozzy. So I felt like they might want more of a defensive-minded forward. But I agree Sourdif is better offensively for sure.

Another Trade Idea
So in three years, MIN will have our first rounder + possibly Fleury while we'll have nothing. These are the trades that make you wonder what management was thinking at the time. While the contracts have good value, they're not worth a first round pick.
