With Spurgeon walking at the end of the year this is arguably the worst defense in the league. Forwards are good tho.

Yes it would be more appropriate for sure, but the canes would still probably pass. No point taking a risk in puljujarvi when they have a proven commodity in wallmark and another high end prospect in geekie. Would you consider a wallmark for puljujarvi swap one for one?

The way the current canes are constructed, one more right shot forward with flexibility would make the forward group one of the deepest in the league with a crazy amount of workable configurations.</div></div>
If the canes unload reimer and williams takes a modest paycut in addition to this trade then it all works out. Rod would have so many options as you said, and not having room for necas for one more season is a good problem to have.

Finishing Touches EDM STL ANA
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>rja40</b></div><div>I think "atrocious" is a bit extreme. It's a gamble, yes, but one that could pay off extremely well. Martinook and Geekie are likely middle six forwards, and Martinook is the easier to replace. Puljujarvi might turn into the stud he projected to be with a change of scenery and two studs on his line in Necas and Svech. Edmonton coaching has for years managed to coach players down. Carolina won't do that with him. The 2nd round pick also provides some protection. Geekie is the prize, but when does he beat out Aho, Necas, Mattheos, and perhaps Drury or Suzuki? I'm using center depth to swing for a home run at a discounted rate.</div></div>
I agree that assessment of mine might have been a bit harsh, but I feel like the canes could get puljujarvi for less, and martinook is the heart of the canes' locker room so he won't be traded. He also scored 15 goals with no power play time so he's got underrated offensive upside.

The edmonton trade is atrocious for the canes. The stl trade is less bad but the canes still pass. The anaheim trade makes the canes defense quite thin so they pass on that one, even though rakell would be a nice add. To your credit that one is the closest of all.

Love the trade but I honestly think you could replace the 1st and 2nd for a 3rd. The reasons why I think TJ would be a good fit are that he's a right shot, can play center and wing, and he's got a good work ethic which Rod would love. The only thing missing imo is willy. Would you send necas down to charlotte for another year just so that willy could have one last run? I think I would, and necas would be the first callup in case of injuries. The only problem is that there isn't enough cap space to sign him unless he takes a ridiculous paycut.

Random Thoughts
RBA loves J. Staal, and for good reason. No chance they trade him. Definitely think the canes should go after JT Miller, and I don't really think the Hamilton trade is necessary especially if we resign Williams.

You would have Aho-Staal-Necas-Wallmark down the middle, thats pretty good.</div></div>
The thing is that necas will need a year or two on the wing before transitioning into a center, which leaves a hole at the 2C position for the next couple of years.

I think you hit the nail on the head; Wally, Fleury, and 2019 1st seems perfectly fair for rakell.
