Reasonable ish
I think the Pens trade is fair but it would be nice if we didn’t have to package Myers with JT to maximize his return.
And just IMO, I’d pay for Forsberg over Gaudreau!

what I would give up for JT Miller
Vancouver would pull the trigger on a Miller trade if he asks too much money, not that if he told them he’s not re-signing, Rutherford said this himself on local radio.
That being said, your offer isn’t enough. A mid to low 1st and 2nd in a weak draft won’t cut it with a B level prospect

Playoff team yes or no
No, you will need a 23 man roster in case of injuries.
Also Dickinson will get between 2.5-3m and will be playing on the 3rd line. Wennberg isn’t what the team is looking for and Dickinson will probably play 3C. You also have Beagle on LTIR, he will be 4C next season
Risto and Savard aren’t great and we can’t roll a left side of Hughes, and 2 guys who have less than 30 combined NHL games if we want to make the playoffs.
Better off getting a top 6 LW for Bo, push Pearson down, and figuring out other pieces on D

Yeah definitely. Whoever they sign in FA for the top 6 is always scary with this management but this still leaves the team with a TON of cap space next season (25-30m)

Yah their selection doesn’t really matter to be honest. Wouldn’t be surprised to see Lind taken. However he is waiver eligible and the Canucks have a decently high waiver priority and they would claim him back

Schmidt had a down year on a new team during the pandemic and was still our best defenseman. I don’t understand why people think he’s suddenly a cap dump or “another bad contract”. Dude is still a top pairing guy on most teams

Hmmmm
If its Vancouver, the only way he gets moved at his contract is to take a bad contract back. It would be like Beagle and a mid pick for Keith with salary retained. The Canucks don't need another 35+ dman on the left side with Edler who can be signed for cheaper and is still younger.
Canucks also need good PR right now and Keith isn't exactly a star among Canuck fans.

Canucks accept. Virtanen is gonna be bought out anyways so you probably don't even need to include him and can just sign him in FA, but there is the legal situation I can't imagine any team wants to be a part of right now.

If Edler and Hamonic come back for similar money to this then I'd be fine with that as well though I prefer McCabe over Edler. McCabe is solid and the only reason he might come this cheap is the question marks after knee surgery and hardly playing for 18 months.</div></div>

I like it. I think we could go with a stopgap 3C this year though. A guy like Soderberg maybe.
I also think we could probably get Hamonic and Edler back for ~3m.
I don’t think our D was actually as bad as it looked last year. Our horrendous bottom 6 ensured they were completely caved in all game

Aggressive Offseason
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Canucks33</b></div><div>The value is probably about right but I'm not convinced Reinhart would be worth it. He's a good player but don't want to move a top-10 pick and commit 6M+ in cap space to him long term.
The Tampa deal is interesting value wise but they already have their LD set. I also would rather wait until next year to maybe trade Rathbone, let's see what he looks like first.
I think dumping a contact in Expansion is a necessary move to be honest. If we're going to lose Lind/Gadjovich/Motte anyways, might as well get some cap space as well. If I were Seattle I would definitely take Motte though; great role player to establish an identity, cheap and could be moved at the deadline for a nice return.</div></div>
Yeah I like Reinhart a lot. I think it would push this team forward wise over the hump. My feeling is just in this specific draft it's a bit more of a crapshoot so the time to make a move like this is now. However we can't do it without cap room.
Yeah I picked Tampa because I thought of Foote, but they could also look at guys like Fabbro. I just think we need to upgrade RHD somehow, there is essentially no one good in FA and Rathbone doesn't need protection so I could see a move like this being possible. Love Rathbone though.
Cap Dump to Seattle I also agree is potentially necessary if they actually want to improve the team. The chances whoever the Kraken take even play for the team is super low, our RFAs require waivers, and there is no actual roster players they would want. It honestly looks like their best bet would be to take a UFA w/ negotiating rights from us. If they can get a pick but need to take some cap maybe its worth it.

Yeah I don't see any reason Tampa wouldn't protect Cernak. Foote I guess because he's lower on the depth chart and could potentially be lost for nothing but I see your point.

TBH this is actually kind of just an example. There are potentially other options out there. Rathbone is probably the best trade-able player we have right now to upgrade RHD because he doesn't require a protection slot.

I can't see the team buying out Holtby and taking a 1.9m hit next season. I'd argue they buy out Roussell to give him a chance to play elsewhere next year, and attempt to move Holtby at 50%, or just keep him.

Realistic offseason prediction
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>CMcAvoy73</b></div><div>I mean, Hughes is SO bad defensively. It’s actually kind of embarrassing, it’s like he doesn’t even care. I think you should lower your expectations a bit. I don’t think there’s a snowballs chance in hell he develops into a true number one. There’s like six of those guys on the planet, and Hughes doesn’t look like he has the makings of an all situations player. If he proves me wrong, it will be one of the biggest turnarounds in league history. Right now, he plays at five on five like a third pair PP specialist. I think if he starts giving a damn about defense, there’s a chance he could develop into a number 2.</div></div>
He was very good defensively and an easy number 1 literally last season. The entire team was horrendous defensively this year. He definitely needs to work on his defensive game but to say he doesn't have the capabilities to be good defensively is a straight up bad take.

Trade Idea
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>TheAlien</b></div><div>I'd do a Myers-Henrique swap but I'm not interested in taking Henrique's contract for anything else</div></div>
I get that, but Henrique is actually still a quality middle 6 forward. His decline isn’t that egregious. His overall contract value (according to the Athletic) is actually around 3.5m so the “bad money” is approximately 2m per season for his remainder which isn’t terrible.
He still scores at a 40-45 point clip and his contract isn’t buy out proof in the final year if things go sideways
I think a swap like this would help us this year and next for sure to be competitive. It wouldn’t affect Pettersson or Hughes extensions, even on a bridge and we’d still have roughly 26m in cap room next year, only needing to sign Boeser and Rathbone.
The contract is not good, but it’s not an albatross either.
