holl is your number 6 dman. is that your improvement on defence. last year he was eight playing 10 games sitting for a lot more. leafs have the same issue as my jets. too much cap space on forwards especially with the new contracts projected for laine and connor which results in worse defence than last year. no matter how you cut it, leafs certainly are worse on defence. don't know if they are better at forward with the the loss of brown, marleau and kadri.

That's a really cute thought, but it's just not a reality in every NHL market.

Teams like Florida and Winnipeg make deals like this to bring on players, treat them well, and then sign them.

Allow me to give you examples:

Max Pacioretty - Vegas Golden Knights
Mark Stone - Vegas Golden Knights
Jordan Staal - Carolina Hurricanes
Niklas Hjalmarsson - Arizona Coyotes
Keith Yandle - Florida Panthers
Evander Kane - San Jose Sharks

This kind of thing happens more often than people recognize, because it's typically done by teams that don't get a lot of media attention.... Which is why they have to go through these types deals to get a leg up on Free Agency.</div></div>
