Interesting. I like that you added some good faceoff men. Not sure if Sekera an still play but I don’t see Riikola coming back next season. Him & Sully hate each other.

There aren't really an UFA centers that are decent at Faceoffs left. Grant and Thompson both went to Philly. How the Pens let that happen IDK.
Glendening in DET probably best bet signed for 2 years at 1.8mil
Maybe Johan Larrson or Curtis Lazar from Buffalo, Sam Bennet in calgary

I like Lewis a lot. I think he'd be a good at to the 4th line and PK. But he isn't a solid faceoff guy.

He'll be 37 with 4 years left. Seattle is probably their best chance at dumping him.
I mean, looking at the roster if you were going to dump one, he would be it wouldn't it?
I realize Suter is there too, but it's easier to move defense if you have to.

just what the penguins need to do, give up a pick for 3 million in cap space that then sits on the bench.
How about no. Never. If Buffalo wanted a trade the Vesey trade was there all this time. They didn't want it. Odds they make a trade now are low. They look out the race and have nothing to really gain.

hockey trades
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>claysbar</b></div><div>Like the Thornton trade. PIT could even retain a mill if it makes it a bit more palatable. Really don't like the Lafferty trade though. Guy has all the traits that the team is looking for and add the fact he is one of the few RH forwards that the team has make him even harder to move IMO. I really don't think we've seen his best yet which sould be a full time 3rd line with the ability to go 2nd in limited situations (better than ZAR but not quite Rust). If they decide to go for a middle 6 guy, I'd like to see Comeau come back. He had good chemistry with both Geno and Sid. Guy still has good speed, hands and plays a 200ft game. The RH shot on the LW doesn't hurt either for the next year giving time for Lafferty to solidify his game.</div></div>
I think Lafferty will eventually be a full time NHL player. This is his first real year out of the NCAA. He's shown he can play at this pace. He's still growing.
But having said that, you have to give to get.
And his path is probably going to remain blocked. Both Legare and Pouline are RW. If they aren't bringing someone in from the outside, I'm not surprised if that's the direction they go. Pouline is putting up points at a 1.67 pace. That's on the same level as a lot of guys who came in at 19. Like PLD in CBJ. I don't know how long you can hold a guy like that back. At some point you are hindering his development. He's clearly too talented for his competition level. Given it's his 3rd year in the Q, I think they move him out.
At the same point Legare is on a really bad team. That's not doing his development any favors either. But they can't put him in the AHL. It's hard for talented guys to improve with no help around them at all.
So I think next year you will see some youth here. That's my guess. I don't know why they would keep Pouline in the Q for another year at this point. Iron sharpens Iron as they say. And right now he needs better competition to grow. He won't get that next year in the Q. If anything he'll probably be one of those guys who only plays half a season to avoid injury as he has nothing left to prove there and he's already drafted. So what do you then do with a guy like Lafferty. You can't hold him forever and letting him rot in the AHL isn't really the right thing to do. He would make OTT roster next year. In return they get a guy for the playoffs with more offensive upside right now.

yeah average people have the same issues. If you are a US citizen it can get even trickier because there are rules in splitting the state tax if one state is more or less.
I know one thing. The players don't do this. They would be a mess trying to figure it out. They pay someone to.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>claysbar</b></div><div>I wonder how that would work tax wise on salary retention if he were to be traded to a Canadian team or a state with higher/lower taxes. Does the trading team that retains send a check to the player for the salary or do they send it to the team that the player was traded to? To clarify, does the player pay taxes for the retained salary where the contract was signed or the new city.</div></div>
I think they are paid where they play. It's a mess. So if you are traveling I think you pay the tax in the state you are traveling in. Because you are legally working in that state/country.
Except for bonus. Bonus is paid where you reside. So if you live in say FL, you pay no state tax on your bonus.

they can get more than Roslovic for Schultz.
There was a study on how teams pick their NTC teams. One of the biggest issues for them was taxes, not teams being playoff teams.
Teams tend to rule out canadian teams due to the high tax rate. They tend to prefer teams in FL and NV where there is no state income tax. I'm sure Seattle will be into that group coming up.

It's weird that I would feel bad losing Holden, but he has been very good wherever Vegas has asked him to play, top 4, LD, RD, PK. He has moved the puck well and been solid defensively.
But I think I would do this trade. But watch Coghlan pull a bit of a Marino next season lol.
