SMITH-BELLY COME BACK
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Eli</b></div><div>Great signing. If I could make one suggestion, once you've signed a terrific clutch playoff goal scorer who plays okay at each special team, are you sure you have a roster spot for Jeff Carter? I was going to question the Van trade, too, until I processed the picks and retention, at which point, go for it, if they don't need him.</div></div>
Carter can play 2RW/3C depending on how the kids play.
Poehling and Suzuki have to earn their spots, and I'd rather they over-ripen in the AHL.

2 years RFA for less cost (to sign Schuldt) vs 1 year UFA.
Eakin is a #3C, while Danault is a low-end #2C.

Petry adds a real #2D
Danault adds a real shutdown 2/3C.

And not even the biggest need the team has. As for Nylander filling a top-6 scoring role, he is a 20 goal guy, Tatar, Domi, Gallagher, Drouin, and Byron are already that with KK, Suzuki and Poehling potentially doing that this season.</div></div>
Petry and Danault are UFA in 2 years.
Danault will be due for a raise, and Petry will get UFA $$.
Montreal adds 7 mill / Top6 for the next 5 years without sacrificing any real depth.

Poehling takes Danaults spot.
Nylander takes the vacant Top-6 scoring slot.

Marc slept through the FA frenzy
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>aedoran</b></div><div>Same about of points but Malkin played less games. It all depends on where Montreal is at in terms of being a contender. If Montreal can win a cup in the next 3 years then maybe the trade happens. If Montreal thinks it is going to be longer I think they pass and it doesn't matter if Malkin stays in the NHL or goes to the KHL at the end of his contract because 36 is about the age where even superstars start to show their age. Now thats how I look at it.</div></div>
This makes Montreal a better team now and sacrifices some youth for the future. That's the point when making a push for 3 year UFA Malkin.

He still put up more points than Domi did last year. Montreal upgrades in the first year.

750,000 leaves almost 4 million over the lifetime of the contract.
I think it's reasonable, as they can retain and trade later on possibly (1/2 years left).
